I am 73yrs. Old & I've had the Privilege of seeing all of these Players ( CB's) from Deon to Nightrain Lane, but how can You Possibly leave out Herb Adderly of the Green Bay Packers, at least He should be in the top 3. He is The original creator of the name ( Shut Down Corners) & was the only CB who could single Handedly shut down Bullet Bob Hayes, but not only did He Shut down Hayes, He Shut down eveyone He played against because You didnt throw to His side.because if you did He was taking it the other way for 6. He was a complete corner Great Tackler, Great Coverer, & every once in a lifetime you might just get Lucky & beat Him deep. A complete CB in every way. If You were going by the most complete, He would be #1.

Personally, i think that Darelle Revis was the best defensive back ever. When he was on the Jets they would put him on the best WR or just give him half of the field to protect. He doesn't have the craziest stats but that's only because QB's never threw at him. Revis was so dominate.

@Marcus Mitchell Green was incredible at bump and run. LOL He was one of the most physical corners of all time. Dude was shutting down guys like Rice and even in his old age was taking down Owens and Moss.
It's funny how you mentioned he can't cover guys who he literally blanketed.

    • @renaldoawes2210
      @renaldoawes2210 4 года назад

@Marcus Mitchell Here he is covering both TO and Rice. Combined they caught 3 passes for just over 30 yards against Green. Every catch they made was a curl and were immediately brought down by Green. Dude was a monster and made them look like normal receivers. Rice had one big play in this game against the second corner, and Owens was shredding while Green was on Rice. No touchdowns either.

Rod Woodson had more tackles sacks picks and picks returned for touchdowns than Deion Sanders.
Rod Woodson retired from the game No.1 all time in history with career interception return yardage and interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Deion was fun to watch. But Rod Woodson was much better on defense than Prime Time ever was.
Based on that, Rod Woodson is really the best cornerback to ever play the game of football.

If you add up all the things a corner has to do to win football games I say Blount is the best. Not only was he exceptional at covering and tackling, he was always where he was supposed to be. Which made all his teammates better. Because they trusted he would be there. Not only that. He was devastating at blowing up a lead blocker to allow other teammates to make the tackle.

Dave Brown absolutely has to be on this list. The guy was a terror, at CB! The guy netted 50, of his 62 career INTs, while playing for the Seahawks.
Edit: Brown played during two years that were impacted by strikes, and in two of his 11 years with Seattle, he played in ten or less games (once was during the 1982 strike, as only 9 games were played, and during 1981 he played in 10 games). The fact is, Dave Brown is one of the top ten CBs to ever play.

Erich Von Manstein Stats wise yeah but Woodson played like three different positions over his career...I know at least corner and free safety...but stats don’t really relate to the best corners. I think majority of people agree that the number 1 thing for a corner is coverage skills and everything else is just bonuses. From strictly a corner position I think Deion’s got Woodson’s number.

@james harm - Well, body of work yes you'd put Champ above Revis but if you compared them in their primes, Revis was better; I'd say a lot better and I've watched both guys since they were rookies. I'd say Charles Woodson and Rod were better Corners than Champ. I used to see Champ get burnt and Owens completely embarrassed him.

I'm a Broncos Fan 4-Ever, & I loved our # 24. THAT said, I have to say it : Rod Woodson was THE best, ever. And Sanders was the most overrated., & MY Broncos Louis Wright is clearly, THE most underrated. -------Now, the most feared CB ? Hands-Down, it was " The Train " ! -----CB's are my favorite players, so I've studied them, & I know them. The Train was--next to Butkus--THE most feared player in NFL history. ---------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o

Mel Blount deserves to be much higher and certainly above Revis. I could make the argument that Blount is the #1 corner in history. He and Rod Woodson are definitely in the top five and possibly even the two best ever. Yes, even better than Deion "I hate playing tackle football" Sanders.
I like the inclusion of "Night Train" Lane, even at #2. No defensive back brought the lumber like he did. Not even Ronnie Lott. To think he still has the INT record is ridiculous.
My top three would be Blount, Lane, and Rod Woodson, probably in that order.

Champ shouldve been number 1. At least top 3. The game becomes harder and harder for corners as the league gets more pass-friendly every year. He covered as good as Deion, could/would actually tackle WELL, and was elite for longer. 12 pro bowls. Nuff said.

No Mike Haynes or Herb Adderley is pretty ridiculous. Also, Rod Woodson is probably the best corner ever, so 4 is definitely too low. Deion makes a good case, so him at one is understandable, but it's hard to see Charles Woodson being better than Rod for sure. Also, nice to see Rodne Barber, but he isn't top 10. Neither is Ty Law. I would probably go:
    HM. Darrell Green
    10. Jimmy Johnson
    9. Mike Haynes
    8. Willie Brown
    7. Charles Woodson
    6. Champ Bailey
    5. Herb Adderley
    4. Mel Blount
    3. Night Train Lane
    2. Deion Sanders
    1. Rod Woodson
Anyway, I like these videos and everyone has got there opinions. Mine isn't right, it's just mine. Well I do think mine is more right than yours (I mean no disrespect by saying this), you could easily poke holes in mine as well. I just think it's important to look more at the past as well as the present, tough it could be said that I look to the past too much.
