Just binge watched this entire series. It's refreshing to hear someone talk so open and honestly about the creative process of making a feature length doc. As filmmakers of much smaller endeavors, we know there's a struggle mixed in with the passion of a project but we rarely hear that side of the equation. I watched the film a few months ago and absolutely loved it. Stunning visuals, great message, good music. Very well done. Congrats on all your success! Keep creating.
I am 53 years old, minimalist to my bones, living in this crazy world. Watching young guys like you discovering your "reality" and sharing it with the world is truly inspiring.
Honestly one of the most refreshing you tubers on the site right now. so influencing and totally doesn't feel like he's being fake in anyway. very humble and love watching these.
I started watching all these videos of minimalism after watching the documentary on Netflix and DAMN... I just wanna re watch it and think about all this new content I've been watching here on RUclips. The idea behind minimalism is great, I'm starting to apply it to my life, and all the work you did with this is awesome! Congratulations to all the team, and specially to you Matt because I know how demanding and time consuming creative industries can be and, above all, how demanding you can be as a creative with yourself and the things you put out to the world. Quality content, after all, congrats!!
It has been 3 years since you made these Making Minimalism videos, but your message still gave me the chills. It resonates with me so much that I cried. haha. Thank you for your work!
Completely enjoyed watching all of the episodes of Making Minimalism. I had the documentary on Bit Torrent, but still bought the DVD because I wanted to share it. I am still on the journey of becoming my version of being a minimalist, but because of the documentary and now seeing "behind the scenes" of how it was made, I'm more determined than ever to complete this particular journey and live a completely intentional life. Thank you!
Hey Matt Yesterday I watched the documentary and today I watched the whole making-of series. Awsome job! Great inspiration. We are a vanlife family of 3 and we downsized all our stuff to fit in the van and we are STILL finding things we don't use
What a hard work behind the documentary! I saw it a year ago but after watching this videos I’m going to see it again. You are great guys, I appreciate a lot your work (the 3 of you).
Thank you so much for this series, it's been truly inspiring to me as a starting content creator, it gives me loads of motivation to keep going hard!!!
I'm a recent film graduate, beginning to try and figure out the balance between work and passion projects. One way this documentary and the series helped was to curb my camera lust. I have learning to do and skills that need to grow before I can even make worthwhile use of the cameras I'm lusting after. I can grow and make fulfilling work with what I have.
So interesting to see what effort and passion you put into the documentary. It is a beautiful and moving documentary! I've seen it twice so far and will most probably watch it more times.
Thanks for your dedication and showing behind the scenes! I watched Minimalism the documentary a few weeks ago on Netflix and I loved it, great work, I can not wait to see more from you guys! Sending hugs from Germany
Hey man, I loved all the concept that is shown here. Its the first time (3 years after this video OMG) I visit your channel and I really enjoyed this quality time watching your videos. Its very interesting to understand that your love and passion ran all this documentary and for real I appreciate it. its super inspiring for me. I'm watching from Mozambique and I will asap search for this documentary I'm already anxious to watch it! Keep doing it and inspiring others to follow their dreams :)
Man, saw you in Boston this weekend and was SOOO pumped to see you filming. Probably got me more excited than seeing them. Loved this series man and all of your work. You're killing it.
Found your channel through Kraig Adams. Started watching and I cant stop watching! I had to start from the beginning and it is inspirational. Thank you so much for all this amazing content!
Congratulations on a fantastic film... and I really enjoyed this making of series... thank you for sharing! I was so excited when I learned that you all were making this film and I couldn't wait to watch it. I purchased it and then have watched on Netflix too. It lived up to all expectations and I've watched it multiple times and will continue to as I need inspiration and "detox" from the barrage of consumerism (I'm writing this during the holiday season). You should be so proud of your work and the incredible message you are sharing... it is changing thinking and helping so many people. All the very best wishes to you... congratulations again to you and everyone involved. :)
Binged it! You guys rock! Here I am wondering where my first feature lenght documentary that I’m shooting atm is gonna go and for the first time in months I’m at peace. The whole team is strongly behind it and we’re just gonna continue to go with the flow! It’s already an epic ride! Gotta love the unpredictable! Thanks for your honesty and authenticity! Good luck to all of you
I came here from Netflix Brasil!!! The documentary is awesome! Changed my way of life! And since then I'm here with you, Matt! And with Josh and Ryan!! Congratulations and thank you for your great film and for everything!!! 😻😻✨✨👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great episode, I have just watched the "bonus" interview with Patrick Rhone. Rich content, must have been difficult to cut so much from all the interviews. Keep up the good work, looking forward to what comes next.
Such an amazing series and just the documentary itself its OMG! Its great Mr. D'Avella. It was a hard process, I kinda know a bit about that, I studied animation in College and now I'm a Graphic Designer so yeah I know a bit the process behind the pre, pro, and post production. So yeah man, keep doing what you're doing and keep flying high.
It's crazy how whether rich or poor the idea of success is about our belongings and how the belongings create a false sense of status. I grew up poor and worked for success in items. I thought that's what success was and I was going through a journey of self discovery and realized that's not success and especially a way to be happy. My perspective of items and success are completely different and how I feel about myself. I am in a better journey of discovery and minimalism has helped on my quest.
I have officially watched all of your videos, except for the podcast episodes. You mentioned that they are created more as videos (makes sense) than audio. I usually just listen to podcasts on my phone but I want to honor your craft, so I'll be watching them on here instead. Keep on keepin' on!
Can't wait for the next project. Matt count me in if you need extra hand in Florida or Animations would love to collaborated. Thank you for making great content and inspiring filmmakers like my self who are just starting out.
Hello! It's different depending on each shoot. I go over lenses a little bit in episode #1 of this series. I predominately use Canon 50 1.2 & Canon 70-200 2.8 for interviews. For run-and-gun I might use 24-105mm.

Thanks. I'm glad you got some value out of it. Wanted to be fully transparent about the process to help those starting out on their next big project.
So true about the honesty of the process. That's rare. Congratulations Matt!

How is this under a 1000 views, after the release on netflix.. Great job on the film man!

Ryan has never more resembled CJ from Thy Art is Murder, vice/versa. Awesome insight into the film. I look forward to watching it \m/
Awesome! Can't wait for the next project :-)
great job with this series!
Thanks :)
I enjoyed the film and this webseries. i'm excited to see the next project that you will be in !
I hope you guys come to Manila !
Thank you!
Can't wait for the next project. Matt count me in if you need extra hand in Florida or Animations would love to collaborated.
Thank you for making great content and inspiring filmmakers like my self who are just starting out.
We don’t have Netflix.. will it be coming out in other platforms soon?
OMG! your channel has so much good quality content... my challenge is how to turn this material into practical knowledge aka new habits???
Salve signore D'Avella. The way I see it is this....either we minimize everything at a global level - or we fall into the abyss.
Good stuff..Subscribed!
Thanks, Mihir!
Matt, can you share your lens lineup? Thanks!
Hello! It's different depending on each shoot. I go over lenses a little bit in episode #1 of this series. I predominately use Canon 50 1.2 & Canon 70-200 2.8 for interviews. For run-and-gun I might use 24-105mm.
Thanks, Matt! I appreciate it. How is the IS noise on the 24-105?
I wouldn't use the lens in a low light situation. Though with the Sony a7sii the noise wouldn't be too bad.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What did the minimalists do next? 🤷♂️
