      I would LOVE your learned opinion- in what ways Did the Crusaders benefit civilization? what would a Crusader think of the current 'Trojan Horse' of ' muslim refugees' flooding the Europe they died protecting?

      Hi Kate, these are subjects that require hours and hours of discussion and debates.. In my video, I said that I enjoyed exploring crusader castles from a historical perspective.. As a Byzantine Empire historian, let's do not forget that the crusaders destroyed the capital of Constantinople in 1204AD (the 4th crusade), a christian city...

    Vic, just stumbled upon your channel and love your excitement, enthusiasm and detailed information in your videos. Might I recommend other cities in Lebanon you would love as a Roman/Byzantine Historian Tyre (Sur) is amazing. Sidon has some good sites too. Baalbek is a must And on a separate occasion i encourage you to go to mount Lebanon villages and enjoy the scenery, you will still find roman and crusader sites up there too. Anyways keep up the great work, enjoy your time in Lebanon and thank you for giving our country this good exposure

      Hi and thank you for viewing my videos and for your comments. The castle was full of army and police all around, and the soldiers have converted part of the castle and they sleep there.. they were very friendly however (I was the only one there)... the only scary part was my walk from the Connexion bus station to the castle, thankfully I did not get lost..

    With your videos, Vic, I am able to see places that I know I wont ever be able to visit. Though my next stop next year is Poland again, then Italy, then Croatia.
    question : isn't Lebanon a bit of a difficult country to visit because of the current wars in the reign?

    • @VicStefanu
      @VicStefanu  7 лет назад

      Hi Megan and thank you for viewing my videos. There is no war going on, currently, in Lebanon and there has been peace since 1990. I avoided the southern part of the country because of the presence of Hezbollah, so as long you avoid that area, everything should be fine..

    • @MalindaConnors
      @MalindaConnors 7 лет назад

      oh I should have asked the question differently, how much does the war in Syria effect the security situation in Lebanon, as you said there is a large army presence in certain area. - There is so much history in the middle east, sadly history is being destroyed now in that region.

    The Crusaders built the Citadel of Tripoli in the early twelfth century during the siege of the city, and made it the center of their military campaigns. The Mamluks burned this castle in 1289 AD, then it was rebuilt between 1307 and 1308 during the reign of Prince Esendemir Korgi, the ruler of the city at that time, and it was restored in 1521 AD during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. At the end of the Ottoman rule, the Turks turned it into a prison.
    The Citadel of Tripoli is an Arab fortress in foundation and location, considering that the companion leader Sufyan bin Mujib Al-Azdi was the one who founded the first Arab fortress in the location on which the citadel is based.

    Nice video.. i wish that you asked any Tripolian to explain more about the castle U missed about 97% of the knowledge of the castle and you gave a bit wrong facts. For example those marbles you said its from Outomman Empire Era..Its not.. those were dislocated Temporary from old soak to rebuild later when the river flooded. But the civil war ruined the rebuilding. You cant be lost in Tripoli. Most of teh ppl there they speak english. ANd if you asked anyone they would lovetohelp you eventake you themself to anywhere you want.

    • @VicStefanu
      @VicStefanu  7 лет назад +1
