Simon is the ambassador that discgolf needs and deserves. No one else in the sport is so profoundly likable or genuine as a person. Simon deserves all the $$$!
at dglo 2021 i was sitting on hole 9 watching players play through and when simon came through he had a putt out from a bush left, probably 70 feet and we just saw his disc fly out and hit chains dead center lol. The man is a legend and always making highlight throws and putts i love it
smart move by MVP knowing he's so loved by the DG community which is rapidly growing, and not to mention simon's super huge YT channel of 170k+ subs and the influence he has.
Simon is not getting 10 million for his play. He had a great year last year, but he is not consistent. The reason he is getting 10 million over 10 years is because he is the most popular disc golfer. He is really entertaining, and funny. That will sell a lot of discs for MVP.
I think both things, his good Game and his character are the reason for his „worth“. Both are the fundament for his high popularity. They have to go hand in hand
Having Simon learn and blog about their disc lineup is opening that up to a huge audience. I've been throwing MVP for years, but I still don't have all their discs. It's interesting to see what a top Pro can do with a lot of the molds that I haven't seen thrown yet.
Sick remix video music fits just right! Simon DESERVED IT plain and simple! No one has a following like Simon lizotte The man will sell out disc every release and one of the biggest you tube/ social media platforms out there! I would of give him 1.5 Million!
He sure is worth every penny. How ever never gonna buy single mvp disc not gonna check out his channel no more. Just cant fathom how he could left the house he built i am sure they matched mvp offer right? Still rocking with discmania.
So you aren't gonna follow Simon anymore because he made a change that he wanted to better his life and instead are going to stay loyal to a company over a person? Makes sense
I have an innova made old fd, a latitude made tilt and an mvp deflector. Simon repped the mvp brand well but it makes no difference to me that he's changed companies, if anything it's just slightly interesting to see whether the gyro thing makes a difference. Seems a bit silly to give up on him just for changing companies. He has said discmania didn't match it ages that he was offered significantly more. America is a hyper capitalist society, can't really blame him.
trust me, I love Simon just as much as the next discmaniac. As amazing of a year as Simon got, the reason IMHO why Simon deserve this deal is the amount of plastic he can move, and I think that ability of his is kind of independent of his performance on tour. If you're a degenerate collector like me, you'll know that the only disc outside of Simon's signature series from discmania that gets sold out quickly is the cloudbreaker, which is fine, I love the cloudbreaker. However, when it comes to Simon, even the TILT gets sold out quickly, and there is no reason to have more than 1 tilt in your bag, lol. That's why he's getting the deal he is getting.
I kind of feel like disc makers should also be more generous with the amount they put into tournament purses. It always seems odd that players like Paul, Simon, and Ricky earning 15x in endorsements vs the max they can win in touring. I get that at the peak, Tiger woods was earning 10x in endorsements but it becomes relative in relation to overall if the above average touring player or up and comer can make it and would make the sport more healthy.
Can't make too many assumptions about these companies abilities to substantially raise purses, remember the disc makers are also the ones paying the majority of the endorsement dollars that are making the disparity between the two seem so wide. Bigger purses would be great, but the machines and facilities needed to start a disc company is a substantial investment. I work for a "start up" D2C company in a different industry and was surprised to find that we were significantly larger than even disc craft is as far as annual revenue. No one is getting rich in disc golf as of yet, not players, nor disc manufacturers.
@@Maj0rFloater I see your point. I'm saying I would like to see less disparity between purse sizes and endorsements at the top. I know they can't go back on what they are paying to those they endorse but maybe they could think a little more about how to even this out for the good of the sport. Let's be honest, disc golf is still extremely niche and is still far from an expendable income sport and there are definitely people getting rich if they are getting $1million a year and even down to $250k a year which I assume some must be getting. I've noticed living in different parts of the country from the west coast, west, mid west, and east coast people who play disc golf don't have a ton of money. Start up money is usually pretty crazy I'm sure.
I'm curious to know what sources you have that have announced the monetary value of his contract. Simon said on the Nick and Matt Show, his only interview by the way, that he is barred from disclosing the terms of his contract. Any "disclosing" of the terms is simply speculative. All Simon has said is that he is very well compensated and he doesn't have to worry about taking care of his wife and son. The only actual known fact is that it is a ten year deal. don't be quoting the Ultiworld article because that is strictly speculative as well
Simon Lizotte deserves $10 million because he's going to sell a shitload of discs. He's also popular on RUclips, a very likeable star, and one of the best and most spectacular players in disc golf history.
Did he actually get paid $10million? I am newer to following the disc golf scene and am very curious about what these pros earn. It's wild to see how good they are!
And how would that occur? You want disc manufacturer's to start buying property all over the country to build courses? They would have to charge crazy course fees to even get a little of their money back and the cost to rent them out for a tourney would be crazy high. A championship level course would easily require 30-40 acres, and the cost to landscape it would be even more. If you want it even somewhat close to a well populated area, good luck. What you want would result in disc golf being as expensive to play as golf. Is that what you want? Are you willing to have to book a tee time and pay $50-100 for a round of disc golf?
Just like McBeth, Simone has a restructure clause in the contract. I think Paul's is every 2yrs. So yea, you never know .. in 5 or 6 yrs, his contract may be 2 to 4 mill. Guaranteed
No disc golf player deserves more than $500k a year Unless you want to be paying WAAAAAAY MORE for disc golf merchandise, where is the money to pay simon $10mil gonna come from? Like if you want to start paying to play on courses and pay $50 per disc I say paying even Paul Mcbeth 7-8 figures would be extremely detrimental to the inexpensiveness of The sport
if mvp profits go up by 2 million a year after Simon promotes their discs to all his young fans, would he deserve a one million share? what about if they make an extra 10 million?
No one has the variety of shots that Simon has..McBeth can do it too in his way but man,wow the ability to putt that many styles that consistently is so rare imo
He's getting 10 m because he is a tool used by MVP for the sole purpose of selling plastic frisbees to all the sheeple that were buying up all the Dicsmania frisbees, before he left them. No one on this planet "deserves" that kind of money.
Everyone that works for someone else basically falls under that category, being paid to do something which in turn makes money for someone else. He's just one of the fortunate ones that makes good money for doing it.
Your mistake is thinking MVP is paying him to win tournaments. They’re paying for his RUclips/Social Media, his name, and his ability to sell people discs.
In the case of Simon consistency in tournament's doesn't matter; as pointed out in the video, it has been a few years since he won any legit events. But throughout all those years any discs that came out with his name were selling very well, and pretty much every other disc he was seen throwing. The content he creates on his own is more valuable to a manufacturer than his tourney results as it's far more relatable to the average disc golfer. People just like Simon and his style, he mentioned the MVP Glitch in one video and now they're sold out at most of the bigger online stores. You can argue his tournament play isn't worth $1 million a year, but I bet there will evidence at the end of the season that the amount of sales due to him make that salary worth it. Disc golf is an odd sport in that it's very product/gear driven. Most other sports people are buying apparel that is associated with a player/team, whereas in disc golf you can buy the actual disc a pro is throwing and use it while you play. Take the NBA, you can buy clothing or shoes a given player may wear, neither are very affordable and you can only use/wear one at a time. You could buy 10-20 discs for the same price as one pair of shoes and use them every time you play a round. If you haven't noticed many disc golfer's are pretty woke and easily influenced by popular opinion, it's the only way you can explain people buying a 'get freaky zone'.

NICE VID
I don’t agree at all .. top 10 player in the world isn’t deserving of it? Not to mention a former German champion ..
Simon is the ambassador that discgolf needs and deserves. No one else in the sport is so profoundly likable or genuine as a person. Simon deserves all the $$$!
Simon has the best personality of anyone on tour. Now he just needs to win Worlds!

This was great ... enjoyed reliving all this content again. Couldn't be happier for SImon.
He's worth it for the RUclips popularity alone. That's bound to 3x MVPs credibility and sales.
He absolutely killed it and the Portland Open - so fun to watch live... Rip City PDX for life
Great video! Thanks.

Really goes without saying...but thanks for that keen observation 👍
Except that I see Simon becoming more consistent. He is getting older, but he is also getting wiser. I forsee him doing good things.

He has crazy skill but also crazy good luck as well. I am excited to see what is in store for him this next year.
I think you make your own luck. I used to, life was good.. unfortunately I've forgotten how to do it the last few years..
Skill + opportunity = luck
The number of highlights from the Portland open alone... absolutely insane!
There's two kind of people, those who loves Simon and those who havent heard of him

Whatever good things happen to Simon, he 100% deserves it.
I'm sure he'll also help marketing of MVP in Europe
i know that approach shot at 7:34 was close for simon, but if I had to putt that i'd still be nervous that i'd miss it, haha

Love the video the music over top of it sucks though..
He's the best representative for there company. And that's all that matters. It's a business decision.

Went to buy another glitch for the bag and they are Already SELLING out.....
Approaching the Boss Fight.....then the music drops.......ohhhh no.
Where is the info coming from that he’s making 10 mil? This hasn’t been released anywhere….

Mpv disc fly different I don’t see how you learn those in one off season
how many world championships he won?
None that I know of. Maybe an amateur one. Would be cool if he won it with new plastic
Simon is making way more than a million a year. He is worth more as he is worth more to disc golf in general.
Did they disclose how much the contract was?
Simon says show me the $$$ !!!
🤑🤑
He moves discs. I have first hand experience lol
Did he actually get paid $10million? I am newer to following the disc golf scene and am very curious about what these pros earn. It's wild to see how good they are!
The money in this sport is unbalanced. Money needs to go into courses not people buying every disc that comes out.

@@stitch438 US.... WE need to stop buying every single new disc that comes out and support a;; our local courses so they get better.
I think a 10 year contract is dumb for both of them. Imagine where the sport could be in 10 years players could be making 10 mill a year.
Just like McBeth, Simone has a restructure clause in the contract. I think Paul's is every 2yrs. So yea, you never know .. in 5 or 6 yrs, his contract may be 2 to 4 mill. Guaranteed

@@oftankoftan That's what he said, no one person on this planet deserves it.
Someone is salty they don't have a skill that's marketable enough to get paid life changing money.
He’s not worth $10mil. He’s not consistent. A ten year deal? He won’t even be competitive in 5 years lol
You can't be more wrong, other than maybe Paul and Ricky, who's been better over the last 10 years...he's worth every penny
Your mistake is thinking MVP is paying him to win tournaments. They’re paying for his RUclips/Social Media, his name, and his ability to sell people discs.
