- Today we work on installing a french drain with the home owner. Using Dirt Perfects 304 CAT mini excavator we install a french drain to help with several wet spots in the yard. Using a 6" main line for the longest section and then we Tee in several additional drains using 4" pipe. All the pipe was wrapped in fabric and back filled with clean stone.

Pretty nice customer, willing to help on site real time answers and adjustments. Plus his son is helping. Poor little puppy done hurt hims paw. On top of all that a little mini excavator drifting. Good one Captain.
That homeowner isn't afraid to work, NICE job Capt. You are the king of trench work with that 304! Work safe, have a good week.
Doug@ the "ranch"
Father - Captain - Lieutenant - Foreman and all around nice guy! Have a great day!
michael robbins you as well sir!
Those mini excavators sure are handy Captain
Another good one with the Captain.
Didn't know the 304 had crab steering on it !!! The homeowner was definitely a big help for you, seen plenty who get in the way..... or claim they know better than you do...... used to work for builders over here, some people were just downright rude and annoying, others couldn't do enough for you, even if it was just supplying hot drinks !!!
Hope your home was in fine working order for your better halves return Mike 🤞👍
Good job in the rain 🌧️ and mud
Great to see the home owner getting involved, certainly makes the job quicker and easier especially not having to jump between machines. Nice one Captain.
Awesome job Capt. K
Donald Trabeaux thank you sir!
Had we only had equipment like this in the forties and fifties my back would still move
Me thinks you’ve mastered it Cap’n!!! You have to get DP to make Drifting the Mini-Ex in the next Excavator Olympics. You can blast Paul Simon’s ‘Slip Sliding Away” for ambience and get those low angle closeups for dramatic effect...
Just holler when you get ready to film it and I’ll bring my daughters old boom box and cd. Shoot, I’ll even direct it in the background!!
You can’t lose this one... you’re a pro!
Sassafras Valley you can only bring the boom box if it requires 8 D batteries!
Captain Kleeman got that covered! And, it’s pink!
Great video Captain, loved watching.
Great job.👌
Gary Hunter thank you!
Nice clean work there captain. Hell of a hand you had helping didn't even tell him what to do, that's the best kind. Cheers 🍻
Andy Moss I agree!
I like when my homeowners are a part of the building. In most cases they just want to learn the trade or just have an understanding of how we do it. Great video. Stay safe
Bruce Huff seems to be the same way around here as well. Hey thanks for watching l!
Love to see the homeowners lending a Helping hand.Great vid.
Sydney McConnaughhay thank you!
Good job now you need to show DP how to drift with a mini. Take care and have a blessed week
Billy Shumate maybe needs to be in an upcoming excavator competition?
Sounds like a plan
I can tell that is going to be a gigantic difference in water flow like I told you before Cap. your skills are changing every hour in each and everyone of those seats great job young man Thumbs up my friend
Mountain Views thank you sir!
Hi captain great video look out now going to get you. A little rain don't hurt no one oh i forgot you well melt 😄 just slip slid away captain. Got you
ANDREW Shullick 😂
I was one of those helpful property owners 27 years ago with our Concrete guy. 2 weeks after our job the concrete guy called and wanted my help on another job. I ended up doing 5-20 jobs with them each year for 25 years.
VideosByAl sounds like you’re good help! I’ll keep that in mind 😉
Great video, having a homeowner like him makes your job easier, he wasn’t shy about working. Kevin
Kevin Kenyon absolutely!
Yes Sir, very interesting video with slippin and ah sliddin.
Do/Have ya'll ever dug up Indian or Civil War or OLDER Settlers artifacts when digging like this?
Very good 👏👏👏👏
Ekskavatör Avcısı thank you!
Top marks for your drifting on the excavator young man, Your showing Mike how to do the main job, so that he can come back and tidy up with the Skid Steer.......
Bob Vernon thank you sir!
Good morning Mike. That’s pretty much my life almost every day. Dig trench with 12” bucket, put pipe in and backfill minus the high voltage and fiber optics lol. Takes patience with that small bucket. Nice job bud 👍🏻
Full Tilt Grading thank you sir! Starting to be jealous of your bucket style. May try and convince mike to fab us one up.
@@CaptainKleeman I wonder if a slip on/bolt on "scraper" could be made....at least until you can convince DP its worthy of its own bucket like Full Tilt's. I'm betting there is a certain MBTS that could weld that right up......even better....make it one of your first welding projects!
I think Full Tilt will be proud of you when they see this 👍🏻
Absolutely 👍🏻
Construction Trucks it’s my goal to make Ed and Brandon proud every time I run that machine!
@@CaptainKleeman 👍🏻
I like your work
I wonder how much water gets under the house considering where the house sits and the amount of water coming downhill, not to mention the ground water. The french drain will for sure help. Have a blessed and safe week, and stay healthy.
William Matthews water is always an issue in our area. Following the rock veins. I think we were able to get under everything that was causing the wet areas.
Good video you did a great looking good
Great job!
Good job Captain. I know they have bound to have taken care of their water problem now. Have a great day.
Brent King -gmail King fingers crossed and thank you!
Definitely a change of seasons up here in Maine too. Just put the boat away for the winter. Always a sad day. Thanks Captain for the great vid as always.
jemilapointe hey appreciate you watching!
Great video as usual.....you either got several shirts from Ed & Brandon @Full Tilt Grading that are the same color or are getting your money's worth out of that one shirt! 😁😁 Thanks for posting!
"Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap.......annnd we've landed" LOL good stuff Cap'n.
Good job mike
Nice vid Cpt. Doing a little sliding there. Was tracking a 9 across an old township road and it was on a slope and had ice on it. Well started across and it took off went sideways and came to a stop when I hit the grass. Me setting there woundering what just happened. Didn't think with that little bit of ice it would slide. So I drifted a D9 !!!!!! Top that Cpt ,!! Lol.
Spydr 1 thats crazy!
Nice video as usual. Stay safe Captain!
Kings’ Outdoor Life thank you sir!
is that your mantra when Breaking mirrors ..... always one more lol
Charles Serong I’m trying to change my ways 😂
God bless and be safe I have you all in my prayers and all the firefighters in my prayers
John Butler thank you sir!
That looked interesting, "drifting" a mini-ex on a steep slope in the rain. Well done. But every fiber of my being compels me to ask if the seat of that excavator might not need a little repair?
Dan Severn I have special pants for steep grade operations 😂
@@CaptainKleeman Won't mention that my wife just bought me a heavy duty slip on seat cover for my Kubota.
TOP gedaan ✅ !!👍
Groetjes uit Holland.
Kleenman know you know stopping at safe. You would loose your man card. Lol God bless
The big boss is coming home you better get that house clean
ANDREW Shullick thats right!
Maybe dirt perfect can donate you that mini and get him a newer one. That would be nice of him I think.n
michael mullins I think he helps me out enough. But I wouldn’t turn it down!
@@CaptainKleeman I know. Remember, nice guys don't always finish last. You have a good clean channel. Doing things right is still right my pastor says. In that since, you're doing great.
Just need to have the XTC setup
Tough job on that slope.
Mike Nixon was a challenge!
Just a tip mate, when you have crap slopes that are slippery as hell? Instead of trying to get up and down the slope ( which only makes it more slippery as it slicks up ) an run the risk of the machine slipping down the slope and caving in the trench or worst case scenario caves in the trench and the machine lurches over to far and tips over? If you run along the bottom and have a track either side of the trench so you eliminate slipping down the hill and when you dig the stone from the pile you dig into it from the side of the pile, so you fill only half the bucket which will be close to the width of the trench you want to fill.
Work from where you last dug or could fill easily and like i say traverse the trench a track either side and work your way back to where you started diggin. So long as you fill the trench up to near finished level ie so you leave a couple of inches from top for soil with the stone and keep filling the trench in before you reach it with your tracks ( so you always fill the trench in front of you by a few feet ) it wont cave in and you can remain safe.
It will make your life far easier, far safer and negate a big potential boo boo from happening an also, the extra bit of time it takes for filling an area with a half bucket? You gain back by not having to muck about trying to move around on the slope, in the end it doesnt work out to much difference on the time scale but on the safety scale it is a huge difference.
Slide slide slippedy slide. Lol God bless
I don’t know what Mike has into that trenching bucket but I am thinking it’s paid for itself multiple times. I also am guessing he will always have a trenching bucket in his inventory.
The only thing is, is that Captain Kleeman didn’t use THE trenching bucket on this job. He just used a regular narrow bucket for digging and the smooth edge bucket to carry the clear gravel.
So I learnt something today, thought how does a french drain work looked at another video and discovered holes in the pipe should face down. I would have done it wrong
A lot of that flexible black piping has holes all around it so there is no up or down.
When you get into PVC solid pipe it usually has two rows of holes that you want along the bottom.
Wayne Crews I must admit the very next video I saw had it perforated all the way round
Gril Nam
My experience here in Ontario is that you can get the pipe 3 ways. Solid, perforated with or without the “sock” on it but the perforations were always all around it.
That certainly doesn’t mean it’s not available perforated only on one side but I guess if it was there would be some sort of marking on it do you know what side goes up.
You need to learn to put your blade down when digging; it not only adds stability, but reduces wear on the bearings. Not to mention, the operator isn't jolted as much.
Definitely a water issue there.
Where did you daylight the pipe? Behind the barn? I was thinking the barn was on the high ground but with the fingers branching off at the other end I’m guessing the barn was actually the low end and the slippery slopes just made it hard to see on video.
Wayne Crews behind the barn. It’s difficult to get grade to show up on camera.
That was a slippery slope.
Is all that grey looking dirt straight clay?
Yep clean up those pizza boxs and beer cans before they get home.
And vacuum up that stripper glitter!
kenneth hodgson 😂😂
Where does the water end up /like a drain field?
Where does the name "French Drain" originate? Henry Flagg French published a book named 'Farm Drainage' in 1859 on his invention. His still has the definitive work on drains. Have you read the book Captain Kleeman? French was also President Grant's Assistant Secretary of Treasury. Up in the great state of Michigan, the county's head guy is called the Drain Commissioner. Captain, your video camera angles and focus is just a bit better than Dirt Perfects. Eaglegards...
That looks like the same crappy dirt I have at my house. Its hard as a rock when its dry and its like walking on chewed bubblegum when its wet. Out of 21 acres of land, I had one spot that would perk. Everyone around me has beautiful red dirt. Lol. Oh well, beggars can't be choosy I guess. Stay safe brother.
Blackdog Tractor/Excavator it’s definitely a pain!
Hey Capt. Just curious of what your opinion is on running the 304.. It seems like a pretty capable machine. What are some of its good points and where would you draw the line where you’d need a bigger machine. Also steel vs rubber tracks?
This just looks like a great machine to start a biz. Would you buy one as your first machine
james donelson 304 is a good machine. It’s very strong for its size and seems to have good break out force. But it’s definitely not the smoothest mini to run. May want to reach out to dirt perfect in and email. He would have a better answer for ya.
I don't understand why you are putting down the plastic
When are you going to get your audio straitened out? Some of it is only one channel not two. Sometimes your audio is very low even when you have your mic on. Maybe your mic is the problem. Any ideas?
JA stuff the next video is using a new mic. Hoping that fixes the issue. Appreciate your feedback and patience
Yeah, I am #1 for the first time ever.. lol
You get the cookie today. 🍪
Tim McDonald 🥇
Trying to show me up Captain Kleeman?
No ones going to want a first place cookie anymore if you’re giving out medals 🥇
Why so bad audio?????
Leo Saarloos bad microphone. Next video will be using a new microphone.
Sloppy bucket lol
Both of mikes least favorite machines on the job lol
Zach Shannon that’s right!
