(Piggy Vlog) How Does a Guinea Pig Show Affection? 20240604 EP96

This video captures one of the reasons for guinea pigs' licking other pig's bums. There are many reasons why guinea pigs lick other pigs' bums:
1. Looking for other pigs' first-round poop: If a guinea pig is having trouble producing its own wet poop, which preserves essential nutrients, it may look for it from other pigs.
2. Licking to be close: Licking is showing affection to guinea pigs. It shows that one pig cares about the other pig's health. Licking the bum can stimulate a piggy's bowel movement, thus releasing the piggy's bloating or constipating syndrome.
3. Tracking sugars: If a guinea pig has trouble digesting extra sugars from vegetables and fruits, it can be diabetic. Diabetes leads to leaving traces of sugar in a piggy's poop and pee. However, it is not normal for a healthy guinea pig to demand extra sugar intake by chasing a diabetic pig to lick its bum. A healthy pig knows well that an excessive sugar intake does not help with successful gut motility. Sugars delay the process of a guinea pig's digestion, therefore causing bloating or abnormal fatigue.
4. Grooming: Cleaning for other piggies is one of the nicest gestures a guinea pig can make by imitating their mothers when they are babies.

My leader pig, Jewels, in my trio, often uses affectionate gestures to award her companions. Jewels might have learned that using 'affection' to secure her leadership costs much less fighting and conflicts!
