I'm so excited for a longer analysis on this once the show is done. The writing, acting, cinematography, and overall grounded approach of this series is the product that Star Wars fans have been waiting for since the beginning. I think it's the best show in the Star Wars universe, the best original content on the Disney+ platform, and is a serious contender (at least for me) for best show of 2022, maybe even beyond.
Andor is carried by the best acting I've ever seen in Star Wars. You feel the emotion and intent behind every line of dialogue. I'm particularly impressed with Mon Mothma and the actor who shall not be spoiled. They steal every scene they are in.
Andor is genuinely the most well written Disney plus show and it just sucks that it isn’t getting the attention it deserves just cause it’s slow or doesn’t have a recognizable character’s name
I'd actually argue that EVEN IF you don't like Star Wars, you might like this. If you like good writing and acting, politics, emotional stakes, this works even without the Star Wars skin. My mom will watch a Star War if it's on, but really prefers stuff like MAD MEN or BETTER CALL SAUL. She's a fan of this.
Totally agree, my wife hates Star Wars, especially Disney Star Wars, and always thought it was for babies (honestly she’s pretty much right). She also loves Mad Men lol, and house of the dragon, Ozark, stuff like that. And she LOVES Andor 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I really enjoy Mon Mothma's presence in the show, she really represents a different side of the Rebellion than Andor and her characterization is pretty terrific
This is the first piece of Star Wars content that is made with real care and thoughtful writing, for grown-ups to enjoy, with no reliance on cameos and references. This is what Star Wars fans having been saying they wanted for years. Now, no one is watching it. Thanks for this, Nando. I am this show’s biggest cheerleader and have been practically begging people I know to watch it. Everyone who listened to me says it’s one of their favorite shows now! Hot take, even competent well-made shows like mandalorian can’t hold a candle to this. Mando can only accomplish so much with its storytelling because it needs to be accessible to all ages, from toddlers to adults. Andor actually has things to say.
I couldn't agree more. I feel like nobody's talking about it. I ask everyone I know if they've seen it so that I can talk to people about the newest episodes. Either they haven't seen it or they it's too slow for them.
Would somebody who hasn't seen the Star Wars movies at all still enjoy it? Is it a good show absent of much prior knowledge? I ask because I've seen all of the other movies but none of the TV shows, and my wife hasn't ever seen Star Wars. I keep hearing people talk about how good Andor is though and maybe that's what would get her into them?
@@brentG1222 I’ll say this, my wife doesn’t enjoy almost any Star Wars media. She liked the OG trilogy well enough (still not her thing though) but could barely suffer through the prequels, Disney trilogy, and Disney+ shows. She gave up on mando, boba fett, and obi-wan within a single episode each. My wife never saw rogue one and can’t keep any of the Star Wars characters or story timelines straight. She was hooked on Andor by episode 3 and watches it with me eagerly every week. The worldbuilding is contained and doesn’t require previous knowledge of lore to understand. If your wife has little interest in Star Wars because it feels too basic or like it’s for little kids, then Andor is an incredible introduction.
Honestly this video and the comments have reignited my interest but the Obi Wan show was a pretty big disappointment for me and im starting to feel the star wars fatigue
Not only is it what Star Wars fans claim they wanted for years, the character Andor is actually the character they claim they wanted out of Han Solo for decades. This guy actually shoots first at every opportunity, he can smell a backstabbing snake from miles away, he slips under the radar of the authority and even when he is caught, he plans his escape from the moment he is escorted into the entrance. He is a better execution of the rogue archetype than Han Solo ever had the opportunity to be.
There's not much I can uniquely say that hasn't already been said by so many others. I love this show. It's my favorite Star Wars project (ever). I really hope that it gets the respect and attention it deserves in the weeks/months to come. God it's nice to have something to watch where I can barely even find fault in it. Every week when the credits roll I'm just stunned and thinking about it all day.
My favorite Disney + show. Favorite Star Wars show. Favorite Star Wars project out of the Disney era. One of my favorite Star Wars things ever and one of my favorite shows of the year up there with prestige shows like Better Call Saul or Barry. No joke. When this was announced back in 2018, I had no interest. I've never been more glad to be more wrong. Thank you Tony Gilroy.
Thanks for putting this out, after very quickly watching Rebels, Obi Wan, Mando, Boba Fett, and then now really enjoying Tales of the Jedi, I watched the first Andor episode and didn't really care. It seemed interesting enough though. I've come to really follow your content because I really respect how nuanced your opinions are and my tastes in nerd stuff seem to align with yours, so thanks to this little video I'll be giving Andor another try :)
Never watched any of the movies past ep 7. Never saw Rogue One, or Solo. I've watched all the shows, so far and enjoyed most of what I've watched, but holy shit this show is on another level. *Spoiler actor* brought me to tears in episode 10. People really need to watch this.
Guess I'm gonna go watch Andor now edit: I'm back 6 hours later, having watched the 10 episodes of Andor out today, and I can't believe I wasn't watching it as it was coming out. Nando, I'm so glad you told me to watch, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Binging Andor is way better than weekly, because so far it is essentially three movies cut into 10 episodes. I'm glad this was your first experience instead of feeling the frustration at the ends of episodes 2, 4, 5, 8, etc.
💯% support, Andor is the best Star Wars Franchise since Rouge One and even my girlfriend that is absolutely not in Star Wars watches every episode. Andor is something completely different and the episode today was so sentimental and intensive that I am really sad, that there’s just one more episode this season. It’s just too good to stop now…😢
Seriously, WATCH ANDOR! It's Star Was as prestige television. It's the most satisfying thing to come out of the Disney era for old school fans, and also a genuine work of art that examines serious issues on a grand scale. You know how George Lucas tried to do space politics in the prequels and it all added up to a boring slog? Well Andor is what happens when you do space politics but actually bother to make it compelling. It deserves SAGs and Emmys and any other award a show can get.
Agreed. It’s like a window into the life of an extraordinary background character. None of the occasionally cheesy Star Wars stuff. Feels like a Star Wars series primarily geared towards adults.
I think the show should have been titled something else. Maybe Shadows of the Empire our something, since it's not just about Cassian Andor. It's a problem that Disney Star Wars has. But, yes, this show is absolutely amazing!
Thank you for this video, Nando! To me, it’s criminal that Andor isn’t getting the eyes that the prior live-action Star Wars shows have gotten, despite being the best of them! Yes, I said it, and my mythosaur skull profile pic should show that I absolutely adore-ADORE-Mandalorians and The Mandalorian show, but Andor is just so well-written, smart and cool that I feel (at least what I’ve seen as of the writing of this comment) that it is the very best of them all by a country mile!
I personally like pretty much all of the recent SW movies & shows (yes, TROS included), but I cannot dispute that ANDOR is probably the best thing made in this entire new era. It is masterful in every way, wow.
I couldn't get passed the first episode, but I keep seeing articles saying it's amazing, and now with your recommendation... Idk, I might give it another shot now.
I love Andor and is up there with Rogue One as the best Disney's Star Wars, but they should have either released in 3 episode chunks. Let me explain: It is frustrating to watch episodes 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 and having to wait for the payoff on 3, 6 and 10. The big setpices should have been available right there with their respective setups, because each 3 episodes together are like an Andor movie, and people would binge or watch them three days in a row during a week, because each episode feels like one third of a movie instead of an episode. And that is the only way my husband and I could enjoy episodes 8-10. I waited three weeks and binged all of them. It was an amazing movie.
I watched it, and it's one of the best star wars media I've watched. It's unfortunate but understandable that people haven't watched it, many are over star wars and sick of the content that's being made. Star wars world building is developing into something many don't care for. I'm still not convinced I'll watch more star wars media after this, it's just so forgettable.
It really sucks that Boba Fett and Obi Wan came out before this series. Those both left a bad taste in my mouth that prevented me from taking interest in Andor while it was airing. I’m so glad I finally watched it though because holy shit is it fantastic
I've seen people say that Andor is 'The best Star Wars series in months' or 'The best Star Wars thing Disney has done'. No. It's the best Star Wars has ever been, just simply, consistently phenomenal. Yeah Empire is great. this is better. Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, they're so fantastically Star Wars and I do love them for that. But, This. Is. Better.
I like that this feels like it could stand on its own without the star wars brand even though it does connect to the movies and stuff. The fact that it is apart of the star wars universe does elevate and add depth to star wars and the show.
This storey is so good I think if ittook place in 1930's Germany the story could be the exact same. It's not about Space, or Lazers, or the Force, it's about Rebellion. And that speaks to everybody no matter the setting.
This is the only Disney plus show after the Mandalorian that felt like the creators knew how to properly pace. I feel that is more due to Disney letting this be the length of an actual series. Most Disney plus shows either feel like they needed to be expanded to more episodes or condensed into a movie.
I would argue it is a great pace for a trilogy of movies cut into 10 episodes, but not great pace for 10 individual weekly released episodes. (I haven't seen 11, I guess it is the first act of the 4th Andor movie.)
I tried recommending this show to my mates but they don’t really care. That being said, this is phenomenal. Easily the deepest darkest themes we’ve ever seen in Star Wars
Take House of Cards, West Wing, 24, Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy and put them in a blender and pour it in a Star Wars shot glass and you get Andor. Best dialogues ever and actors with Emmy performances.
Who would’ve guessed that we would get a mature prestige-tv political drama out of the Star Wars franchise? It’s incredible. I recommended it to my 70-year old mother (who famously disdains sci-if and action movies) to watch it. It’s a shame Boba Fett and Kenobi’s rapid-fire release and below-expectations quality kinda instilled franchise fatigue in the mainstream Star Wars audience. I think if this had come out as the first show after the Mandalorian’s debut and success (and its release wasn’t overshadowed by a contemporaneous Marvel show with a lot more media hype surrounding it), Andor would be *massively* popular. I certainly had low expectations of it going in, I can’t blame the average Joe for not having faith and tuning out.
I hope Disney doesn't take the wrong lesson from Andor's small audience. The audience for this isn't smaller because the other stuff was better. It's smaller because the other stuff was so bad.
I would watch Andor because I believe how good it is, but im stalty that Andor a spinoff of a spinoff has more love, money, and time put into it than the Obi-Wan show. I can't watch it yet without thinking about that. To Everyone who is watching I wish you a great time and hope I can get over the burn of Obi-Wan show one day.
my prepaid card ran out so i really need to reup so i can get back on im only 1 behind but im excited unless something changes andor has been exactly what ive wanted from star wars a no jedi story that just people doing star wars stuff
If you told me a few years ago Andor would have been the good star wars show I would have thought you were crazy. But Boba Fett, Kenobi and Bad Batch being so mid to bad is shocking. I think part of star wars current issue is the higher ups saw how good Grogu or what I want to call little kid adoptive parent format works so well. Probably polls well with all demographics and now gets shoe horned into everything
Andor to me has been good enough for me to question whether it is better than Empire Strikes Back. It might not actually be, but it's close enough for me to not think that opinion is crazy. It's hands down the best show on television. Really enjoyed House of the Dragon, but this is still in all likelihood a better show, AND it isn't even on HBO, but it feels like it could be.
This is one of the many reasons I dislike a huge portion of Star Wars fans. They’re hypocrites, tonnes whinged and moaned that they wanted a serious, more adult, deeper show, with no mention of Jedi. Then they get that show, with outstanding performances, and a tense, brutal story detailing life under the empire, and they don’t watch it. They complain (often in the most childish, crude way possible) that it’s too slow, they want Jedi, they want big action pieces (or even that it’s “too woke” ffs) etc. You literally can’t win! It’s infuriating, we finally get something great, and it goes right over their heads.
This reads like Nando is threatening us
Nando if Diego Luna is behind the camera with a gun forcing you to get people to watch Andor blink twice
As he should
rightly so

agreed. i enjoyed hotd but this was way better

I just finished episode 11, and Genevieve O'Reilly's work, in a fairly short scene, steals the show.
Andor is genuinely the most well written Disney plus show and it just sucks that it isn’t getting the attention it deserves just cause it’s slow or doesn’t have a recognizable character’s name
and it's not just that but Kenobi got people's expectations for star wars shows being good to low
I'd actually argue that EVEN IF you don't like Star Wars, you might like this. If you like good writing and acting, politics, emotional stakes, this works even without the Star Wars skin. Even though I know she lives thru RoTJ...I get nervous for her in every scene.

Andor is ramming other shows like a bantha
Episode 10 genuinely made me cry, one of the best shows I’ve watched in a while.
I think it may be the best Star Wars content produced, and that includes the original trilogy.
I don't have peace because I'm worried about people not knowing about Andor all the time.
That's just love. Nothing I can do about that...
😭
This is my favorite comment.

THANK YOU for saying this. Andor is utterly fantastic and people don't believe me

This show is the absolute best, it's insane how deeply underrated it is. The best Star Wars live action show.
Agreed. It’s like a window into the life of an extraordinary background character. None of the occasionally cheesy Star Wars stuff. Feels like a Star Wars series primarily geared towards adults.
Agree! I am surprised every week at how much I enjoy this story. It is my favorite piece of Star Wars storytelling since Rogue One.
I joked with my friends that Andor seems to be getting zero buzz because it is actually competently put together and good
Must've been. It's got nothing real for the fans to complain about so they don't tune in.
Andor is such a fantastic sci-fi drama, period, it almost feels like an insult to call this series merely the best Star Wars in a long time.
I think the show should have been titled something else. Maybe Shadows of the Empire our something, since it's not just about Cassian Andor. It's a problem that Disney Star Wars has. But, yes, this show is absolutely amazing!
Andor might just be the greatest show I’ve ever watched.

Actually if you simply like really great drama, acting, great writing, and beautiful visuals you should check out Andor.
I feel like even if you aren't a Star Wars fan you would still enjoy watching Andor without having any knowledge of Star Wars lore
I honestly expected just 3 minutes of Nando saying: Watch Andor. But yeah, do it!
Andor is fire!!!! omg andy serkis is amazing in it! my fav star wars show so far! mando is my second favorite
I am already watching and absorbed into andor and I'm so excited to hear about people talking about this phenomenal show!!!
Loving Andor. Best StarWars since Rogue One (and Rebels)
this is a very mature show compared to the other star wars disney+ live action shows, a lot of people may get bored by this
Can we appreciate how awesome this channel is? I love all the extra Nando content

Andor is the best Star Wars content since Empire Strikes Back. There, I said it, and I stand by it.
Also, Denise Gough's face muscles are the star of the show. Like, holy shit, how does she DO that????
I like that this feels like it could stand on its own without the star wars brand even though it does connect to the movies and stuff. The fact that it is apart of the star wars universe does elevate and add depth to star wars and the show.
literally has become of favorite stars wars content. yes the movies are great, and mandalorian is great but this is peak star wars
I have been enjoying all the Disney stuff but man this is the best we have seen in the new canon
Probably the best Star Wars content in the Disney Aera (at least concerning Live-Action)
This storey is so good
I think if ittook place in 1930's Germany the story could be the exact same. It's not about Space, or Lazers, or the Force, it's about Rebellion. And that speaks to everybody no matter the setting.
Ok. I'm sold.
The pace is so slow that I haven't been able to consistently watch it, but seeing Andy Serkis play a role really makes me want to push through
It is amazing if you binge episodes 1,2,3 and then 4,5,6 and then 7,8,9,10. They are three movies. I guess 11 and 12 would be the 4th movie.
Feige: Wow, Nando's advice to me is getting really specific... **fires up Disney Plus**
I'm taking this as my sign. Thanks for making such great videos bro appreciate u
This is the only Disney plus show after the Mandalorian that felt like the creators knew how to properly pace. I feel that is more due to Disney letting this be the length of an actual series. It's so good. Just excellent television in a fictional universe I love.
Take House of Cards, West Wing, 24, Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy and put them in a blender and pour it in a Star Wars shot glass and you get Andor. Best dialogues ever and actors with Emmy performances.

I agree, watch Andor.
Andor is so good.

Probably polls well with all demographics and now gets shoe horned into everything
i really hope a big mess comes out soon, nandos been enjoying shows i like too much and i haven't gotten to write a single angry comment
Are you gonna make a video about She-Hulk's ending or a Mostly Nitpicking on it?
I was planning on to see it once season one ends... Oh the season ending is tomorrow... Ok.
Personally I think Andor is the Star Wars for people who don’t like Star Wars.
Should I watch Andor?
Yes
Good show to watch in arcs. I think it's made up of a 3 episode arc, 4 episodes, 3 again and then 2.
Fiiiiiine. I'm going. Be back later.
Andor to me has been good enough for me to question whether it is better than Empire Strikes Back. It might not actually be, but it's close enough for me to not think that opinion is crazy. It's hands down the best show on television. Really enjoyed House of the Dragon, but this is still in all likelihood a better show, AND it isn't even on HBO, but it feels like it could be.
just like star wars in general, 1-3 are their own story, 4-6 are their own story, and 7 isn't part of the same story as 8 and 9
I watched Thisthat by accident
Dude boba fett was just Mando season 2.5
Andor GOOD
Yeah nobody's watching this show in comparison to other things and it's so much better. I need it to succeed so I can have more
