- In autumn of 2000, Chita Rivera reprised the role of Reno Sweeney in the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Anything Goes, with Lee Roy Reams directing. Seen are "I Get a Kick Out of You" (1:38), "Friendship" (3:34), "Anything Goes" (7:15), "The Gypsy in Me" (13:35) and the curtain calls with the reprise of the title song (17:22).
Papermill is the one regional theatre that doesn’t cut corners and my favourite production was Follies 1998 and they even did a Cast Recording
Yes, their productions are usually quite good indeed! The American Musical Theatre of San Jose was another one that comes to mind for its quality productions.

What a interesting find! I didn’t know she was even in Anything Goes at one point. I was in a community theater production of Anything Goes and I was never told that the same actress who was Rosie in Bye Bye Birdie was also in Anything Goes at one point. Thanks for sharing.
The most fun for me was seeing my friend George Dvorski. He once made a CD with a bunch of other leading men baritones called Leading Men Don't Dance, but look at him, how he holds the stage so well with one of the greatest dancers who ever took center stage. Of course Chita in anything is wonderful.
Thank you for pointing out that there is another person or two on stage in this clip. And George Dvorsky is an old-school barihunk.

She's 67 here. Absolutely phenomenal.
Never knew she had done Anything Goes... not the best role for her, age-wise or vocally, I think, but I love watching her anyway. I have followed her career from the early 70's until just a few years ago when I saw her show in New York pushing 80 years and still dancing great. Love to have had the chance to watch this. Thanks for posting.
I,m a big fan of Chita Rivera. Loved her in Kiss of the Spiderwoman. But she was miscast in this.

“Reprised the role”? When did she do it before?
Fergus Murray according to Wikipedia (I know not always reliable) she performed the role in 1982, though it does not list where. Perhaps it was also at Paper Mill?
@@scottmiller7779 You're right that it was 1982, it was a summer production at the St Louis Muny (Municipal Opera House).
I adore Chita Rivera, but but she was not in the best voice here. She acted the hell outta the role however, and dancing?! I mean is there anyone who can do it like her?.....

Marce Kotliar that was my point regarding the dancing. No one can better her in that department. She is simply one of the best EVER. I have heard her sing multiple times before and since this was filmed and in this case her voice seemed a bit strained and not at her best. Maybe she had been ill and her throat was suffering? Regardless she was truly a fabulous Reno Sweeney and a true star!
I love Chita but this was not the part for her.
