  • Make more money and outsell the competition! Rachel and Hard Working Man work together using the sawdust byproduct from the new Balfour Samurai Buzz Saw to make organic fire starters! We were able to get close to 800 degrees and an over 25 minute burn time. This batch of starters was made from all high btu black locust sawdust and organic soy wax to produce a premium product! They will be included with all future HWM firewood sales.

      Most of the egg cartons we get here are styrofoam. I can see where the cardboard ones would be really easy to use!

    Helpful Hint: Melt a sufficient amount of Vaseline (aka Petroleum Jelly) and pour just a bit (about 1/4 tsp) on top. Great for ease of igniting with only Ferro Rod and Striker. Eliminates flame starter!

      I make these for camping, I will put a ½ cotton ball, that has been rubbed in Vaseline, on top of the sawdust before pouring the wax on top. Once I get all my cups full, I'll put the whole tray in the oven at °170 for about 10 minutes. That will let the wax permeate everything and then let the excess run out on the tray. Then, while they are still hot, I take the cups, put them on a cooling tray, and then recover the excess wax.

    Nice job. I'm going to try this with beeswax. I'm a beekeeper and have lots of beeswax to use up. Can't wait to try it and see what the burn time is on it. Thanks for a great idea. I have a Woodmizer saw mill and I think once I start using it I'm going to have lots of sawdust to use up.

    Heath it’s interesting that you’re not using a wick. Great idea about using the paper cup as the wick. I want to buy the Samurai just to get the sawdust😂😂😂
    Good luck, great value add.

      @hardworkingmanoutdoors  Год назад +1

      Thank you. I thought about a wick but figured why not try the rim of the cup. I went with 2oz cups so I could leave them less than full. So far the cup has worked great.

    It's y understanding that the sawdust acts as thousands of micro wicks, and the wax is the real fuel, like a candle. So the best wood would be porous structure and pine would be fine. But it should be dry. What I don't know is, would wood chips, like from a chainsaw, burn different from fine sawdust, like from a table saw?

    • @hardworkingmanoutdoors
      @hardworkingmanoutdoors  26 дней назад

      I will say when we make them with noodles sawdust vs the traditional chip sawdust they seem to work even better.

    think about adding liquid paraffin oil or fire gel to the wax, this adds a very good component to the firelighter that allows them to burn better.

    • @hardworkingmanoutdoors
      @hardworkingmanoutdoors  7 месяцев назад +1

      We use it for a few reasons. One we use it to start charcoal grills and smokers for cooking. Two for marketing, people love organic stuff and I’ve had several people say they buy wood from me because I offer free organic fire starters. Also because it was available on Amazon at a good price and met my needs.
