  • I've found the very best way of making homemade fire starters/firelighters or tinder for camp fires and wood stoves. In this video we'll test my DIY recipe against a couple of other popular methods to prove mine are superior and totally waterproof!
I'm sure you've seen other people using Vaseline or paraffin candle wax, but I've found a better method.

The hardest part of any adventure is getting yourself Out of the Door! Almost all of us live busy lives, have other commitments, and have a limit to the funds with which to pursue the adventures we dream of.
But there are so many adventures that can be accessible to us if we just get Out that Door and make a start.
You don't need the latest and most fancy equipment, you don't need a huge bank balance, you don't need superhuman abilities and you don't need weeks of free time!
There are so many adventures, not far from where you live, that require only the the most basic equipment and that may only take a few hours - the rewards of getting Out that Door are waiting for you!
Equipment I use (note - it's all good quality gear, but in most cases not the most expensive option; fun doesn't need to be super expensive!):
    Bike:
    Bike: Trek Checkpoint ALR5
Head Unit/Cycling Computer: Garmin Edge 830
    Bike Bags: Apidura Expedition range
    Camping:
    Hammock: DD Superlight Hammock
Sleeping Bag: Decathlon Forclaz Trekking - MT900 10°C
Underquilt: Alpkit Cloud Cover or DD Underblanket
    Tarp: DD Superlight Tarp (3m x 2.9m) or Superlight S (2.8m x 1.5m)
Groundsheet: DD magic carpet - Regular
    Cooking:
Wood Stove: Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox XL
Gas Stove: MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe Stove Kit
Spirit Stove: Trangia 27-4HA (or sometimes just the burner and a Lixada 420ml Titanium Mug Pot with a KBNIAN Alcohol Stove Cross Stand)
    Coffee maker: Aeropress Go
    Camera: GoPro Hero 10/Samsung S20FE
Microphones: GoPro Media Mod/Rode Wireless Go II/Rode VideoMicro

Thanks for this. I like your honest approach. Great idea for the wax coated vaseline pads. That is the first time I have seen that and the melted vaseline. I have used vaseline on pads - but just rubbed in and kept in foil. This is much longer lasting!!! Great video!!!

That was cool thank u for sharing that cause all those things u can pretty much get for a dollar and make it lasted long enough to even get wet wood dry and bruning and the fact it was waterproof fire 🔥 starters can be expensive awesome video

Thanks for this comparison video. Saved me a lot of wasted time and money since I was planning on only using the paraffin wax. Going to use your preferred method! Thank you again!

Terrific video. Enjoyed it. New sub. I've only used the Vaseline cotton balls with good results in but I'm going try your recipe of Vaseline, Wax , and Olive oil. I keep the Vaseline cotton balls in empty pill bottles. I always have more than one way to start/have fire (4) , and potable water (3).

Surprising how poor the wax was - I’ll definitely be using your recipe!

I buy the fire starters made by Rutland from my local hardware store. I use them to light my wood stove.

It would have been interesting to see each of them lit with the Ferro rod . I also use the pads after makeup has been taken off with them. And I use paraffin lamp oil instead of olive oil. Since I have it

I have been using cotton wool dipped in candle wax for years but have since discovered the natural wood wool and the comprssed wood fibre fire lighters, they cost next to nothing, weigh just 5-10g and burn for 5-10 mins each. And none of that toxic burning pastic of the cotton wool. Give em a go

  • @barryfroelich3526

Did a hydrogen peroxide 91% core dipped into the wax
