Hi David Really nice to hear some of your story, The Elms are dying hear too, we have are own very small woodland mostly Elm some looks healthy but its mostly dying, at least I have plenty for turning. I understand what you mean about really hard woods, it's not a lot of plessor when the wood is so hard, constantly sharpening and very slow progress. But I'm sour there must be some interesting woods good for turning. Gday, thank you for your comments and for watching! 😊
Woohoo Martin that's something large all right and the grain figure is amazing, you carnt beat a good crotch. That wood have to be the biggest set of Cole jaws on any channel I have seen. 🏅🏅🏅Ernie smith from brisbane Australia
Oh! That is wonderful. I truly love watching you work. You make it look so easy. I do have a question though. I notice that it doesn’t appear that you utilize an Irish grind. I’m beginning to think about the change. What is your favorite gouge angle for turning bowls?
What a masterpiece. If only that tree could talk. It would be very proud. Just lovely. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching Mike. 😊
Stunning! A beautiful blank well turned, love it.

Gorgeous bowl Martin - I must admit though, I have serious lathe envy!
Thanks very much Paully. It's nice to have a big lath but it doesn't make you a better turner.
@@MartinWoodhead very true Martin - nice to dream though!
Bloody amazing you make it look so easy the lathe is beautiful

Thanks very much Ernie, yes it was a very nice piece of wood! 😊
I want that bowl!!!!
Make me an offer!
I think it would cover my whole table HAHAHAHA
Oh! That is wonderful. I truly love watching you work. You make it look so easy. I do have a question though. I notice that it doesn’t appear that you utilize an Irish grind. I’m beginning to think about the change. What is your favorite gouge angle for turning bowls?
Thanks very much Larry. I use a 40/40 grind and something like 55 degree for the bottom. 😊
Bom dia Martin, quando a madeira ajuda o milagre acontece , parabens .
Muito obrigado Rodolfo. 😊
Beautiful piece. What size bowl is that? Also, what size faceplate did you use for that one?
Beautiful! Thanks for the video! By the way, was that parafin or some kind of wax that you applied before spraying the lacquer?
Thanks for watching Dave. I didn't apply anything before spraying, I was sanding. 👀😊
You need a coring setup. Nice turn.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Wow! That is beautiful! What are the final dimensions?
21 ins x 4.5 ins. Thanks for watching! 😊
Simply stunning.
Thanks for watching! 😊
@5:00 that is a big honking lather!
Looks great Martin! However, this almost too “normal” of a turning for you 😂😂
Yes I know it's a bit boring isn't it! Thanks for watching! 😊
@@MartinWoodhead not boring at all sir! I love seeing the natural beauty of the wood be exposed.
$3700.99 for the bowl.
How much for the lathe? just asking.
The changeble swing is very cool.
You've got yourself a deal for the bowl. The lathes not for sale! 😊
are you once turning everything?
No, it's not always evident in the videos. This bowl was turned over a a couple of months to allow for drying and movement. 😊
Soup bowl 😁
Thanks for watching! 😊
@0:50 Yes, if there is a hole for a screw, put one in.
Yes it was a heavy piece of wood! Thanks for watching! 😊
Nice work, don't you use bowl saver as you could have got more nice bowls out of the one piece.
You wouldn't say that if you saw my bowl mountain! 👀 Thanks for watching! 😊
