Wonderful interview of Dustin! Being a wildlife artist, myself can relate to most of his wildlife encounters. Thank you, Jeff, for making these interviews!
Excellent episode, as it hits home. I'm staying farther away from the bighorn sheep in the Wildlife Refuge in Jackson now, because Dustin says they can be dangerous.
I m afraid I fell into that situation, chasing after a magnificent moose in Yellowstone. Never saw him. His long legs carried him away in a split second. My husband stayed on the roadside watching.
I listen to an NPR broadcast in the morning and they were comparing the work of Mozart in his peers and they there was no copyright law and they all lifted work from each other so yeah, I’m Mozart work but pieces of his work and other peoples work all work exchanged maybe not with authorization exchange.sorry I’m talking to my phone
How is it possible for an unknown artist in a small town of Nebraska to sell several paintings for thousands of dollars? What was the marketing strategy? What was the subject? This is a very atypical situation
It was definitely an atypical situation! But, I did a few things… first in the lead-up to the show I sent press releases to every media outlet for 200 miles in any direction. That led to my show being mentioned in various publications and even got me a segment on a local television station during their evening news broadcast where they profiled me and the work I was doing. All of that visibility in an area that apparently had a hunger for art that had maybe been untapped to a degree created a sense that my show would be an event. Fortunately, it drew in far more people than I could have expected. The paintings in the show were all wildlife paintings. This was a long time ago now - in fact it’s been more than 20 years and it was the very start of my career. I haven’t experienced anything quite like it sense.
The animal stories were hilarious! Thanks for another great conversation!
