MUSLIM TURKEY - THIS IS WHAT THE STREETS LOOK LIKE in a country where 99% profess ISLAM

  • With my wife Dace we continue traveling this side of the map to share it with you and we arrive at Turkey, a great country that, between east and west, is located at the navel of the world.
It is known that Turkey is a predominantly Muslim country and we want to see it on its streets. Islam is the predominant religion in Turkey, and approximately 99% of the population is of Muslim origin.
The majority of Muslims in Turkey follow the Sunni stream of Islam, while a minority follow the Alevi stream, a heterodox form of Islam.
Despite being a country with a Muslim majority, Turkey is a secular republic according to its Constitution. This means that government and religion are separated in formal terms.
Turkey has adopted a secular system since the time of its founder, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in the 1920s. As a result, the country has a secular tradition in which religion does not play a central role in politics and public life.
Judging by what we are seeing, tolerance prevails in these streets, I have seen a degree of limited, ordered freedom, without overflows, but the rigidity of other geographies does not prevail here.
It is important to highlight that Turkey is a diverse country with a multicultural and multi-religious population. Although Islam is the predominant religion, there are also religious minority communities, such as Christians and Jews, that have coexisted in Turkey for centuries.
Reports say that religious freedom is generally promoted in the country, and people have the right to practice their religion or beliefs according to their personal choice.
In summary, we can say that Turkey is a country with a majority Muslim population, but it is also a secular country where religious freedom and religious and cultural diversity are guaranteed.
The streets of Istanbul are the perfect setting to enter a different world. Although images of the Muslim creed are increasingly common in Europe, coming here still means taking a step beyond this side of the map.

I am Türk. And i watched the video. Most parts you showed us consist of tourists , especially Arabs. Not %99 Türkiye is Muslim. From my perspective maybe %60-80 considered to be Muslim. Other percentage consists of mostly non-religious and a little christian and a little jew , etc... And among Muslims i believe maybe half of them secular , not very conservative muslims. The countries dont own(embrace) the religion , the individuals own(embrace) the religion. We must observe religions from this perspective. We shouldnt generalize this for the other countries and ethnicities in the world too

Heres something you may find interesting. :)
The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird ''turkey'', well let me explain. :)
Name of my country has always been Turkiye, that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means ''land of/belonging to''...
...just like the Latin suffix -ia in such countries as Latv-ia, Roman-ia, Eston-ia, Austr-ia, Austral-ia etc etc. Another example; decades ago Czechoslovakia Republic changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia).
Anyways, most likely the Latin -ia suffix was derived from the Turkish version -iye,
as Turkish is much much older.
Because in old times people of different languages could only pronounce it as their languages allowed them, we got various differences in spelling like Turchia (in Italian), Turquie (in French) and Turkey (in English) all trying to resemble the pronounciation of ''Turk-ia'' thus Turkiye.
Mind you this was way BEFORE the animal we currently know as 'turkey'' was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas....
...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird ''Turkey Fowl'' meaning ''Turkish Chicken''.....
....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), Rhodesian Ridgeback (because it's from Rhodesia), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc.
In time you don't get to call the Greek Harehound as simply as ''Greek''; or you don't call the British Terrier as ''British''; or the German Shepherd as ''German'', but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just ''turkey'', and has been going on for hundreds of years.
Now in 2023, this is causing confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their OWN country on the atlas, this ''confusion over the naming'' needed to be corrected.
So my country decided to rectify this confusion that has been going on for so long and corrected the name in other languages to Türkiye, which it always was, we basically didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : )
So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : )
      Best wishes. ;)

Yours is understatement, turkey is overall a secular immoral country, i was following a couple of hijabi girls from turkey on Instagram and this year they all started to show off half naked. I heard before that it's similar to Argentina in terms of religion, 80% say they are catholic but they are not even catholic not anything, maybe agnostic. What can yoi expect from Indo-Europeans? When in the world did they follow a religion? Lack of religion derives in that an some point everything is permitted. The only thing we can say is that regardless the women there lack modesty, they still cannot be seductive because their nature is not being immoral, is to say, there is good in them. I'm here today also because my grand mothers were Turkish. I would love to marry a turkish woman to follow the tradition (jews from spain), but these immodest behavior today certainly makes it difficult.

I am a turk, finally I get a chance to say it here and now(after 6 years, I was at JFK in 2018 last time). My beloved stupid Americans flock to nordic countries in wintertime to stay inside stonewall buildings and drink beer served by female waitresses there(which I would love to do too) BUT and this is big but those same stupid Americans whom I also love could get their asses at that SAME wintertime to the beautiful and warm Antalya(Turkey) coastline and drink that SAME beer by the beachfront at a quarter of the price... How pathetic is all that ::::.. I say all this because I saw US citizens lined up at JFK ready to take off to the mentioned nordic countries when they could have had much better and cheaper costing time in a very different country and beachside beer drinking(isn't that what they want???), any which way you look at it is just pathetic.... Malinformed people, mal results :) love you mal means bad in French. Please do not take this against those countries up in the north , I love them all, I have not been there yet but I would love to be someday. Especially Finnish northern lights,....

There are the two things that foreigners usually misunderstand about us:
    - Turkey is not a Muslim country, it's a Muslim majority country. The state itself has pretty much the same foundations with the european states. The difference is demographic and cultral.
    - Being Turk is not about race, it's about citizenship. For example, %20 of the population here are the Kurds, yet they are still Turkish citizens under the constitution.

And there is the destruction of at least 10,000 towns and villages, the ethnic cleansing policies ever since the state was established, after the independence war which the Kurds actually participated in and gave their lifes for, there was illegal speaking Kurmanci until a few years ago, if you openly say you're a Kurd, lots of Turks will hate on you, some will even want you dead, there is the desctruction of ancient towns such as Heskif (hesenkey) which is 12,000 years old, many other places, under the pretext of development, every few years the Kurdish party is shut down, so they have to make a new one, under the pretext of them supporting the PKK. Whoever says anything about Kurdish rights and option for selfrule, or even just autonomy in Turkey (which we could accept), will be labeled a PKK terrorist straight away. What good is it to be a citizen of a country that treats you like this? Believe me, 20% is underrated, but yeah if you mean the true Kurds, sure, but probably there are millions of turkified Kurds as well and millions of Kurds who want/pretend to be Turks because it makes their lifes easier. If Turkey had treated their Kurds well, and had a brotherly relation with us, I promise you Turkiye would have been 100 times if not more stronger.

El estilillo de andar con bermudas por todo el mundo me parece de pésimo gusto.
En todos los videos de viajes no faltan los ridículos de pantalón corto. 😊

In this video most of the women who are extremely covered are either Arab refugees or Arab tourists. Most of the Turkish people do not want Arap refugees in their country which is another thing.
