  • Star Citizen 3.22 is looking like it will be a great update. It introduces lots but what this video showcases is a first look at vehicle munching. Fracturing and Disintegrating out of action vehicles and turning them into good quality crafting materials. Both the Vulture and Reclaimer also got updates that allow salvage buffers, it's a massive game-changer. There's been folks complaining about the addition but honestly, I think it's at a great starting point and they've already added some changes since the recording of this video and likely more to come.

    Visually it definitely needs work but the buffer alone makes the vulture actually useable imo. I wouldn't even be mad if they made structural salvage similar to the mining minigame as that one is already pretty engaging

    It really looks like they wanted at least something to get delivered before holliday. I like the visual effects of the vulture but i really though that you would have to place the components inside the munching area. This would also add some skill because you then had to manouver around the pieces without damaging your ship. I also think it needs a cutting mode for the salvage beams, so instead of just turning the ship into chunks via point and click, we would have to cut it at specific spots by using a laser cutter. In conclusion: 1. Step removing cargo & components; 2. Step hull scraping; 3. Step laser cutting into bite sized pieces; 4. Step placing to pieces into the salvage area for desintegration.
    The reclaimer on the other hand.... i dont know. Turning the crushing claw into a beam feels really bad. I hope this is a placeholder until the maelstrom system for ship destruction is implemented.

    • @BizzMRK
      @BizzMRK 8 месяцев назад +2

      Thats the plan for this feature but this requires the maelstrom and resource network systems to be implemented first. Currently ships can only be fractured into predefined chunks which are too large to fit between the vultures arms.

  • @BizzMRK
    @BizzMRK 8 месяцев назад +1

    The devs already increased the time it takes to disintegrate wrecks and reduced the amount of SCU you get out of each ship. They mentioned on the forum that they are working on implementing some skill into the feature next by making proper positioning of the wreck (or your salvaging ship) affect the speed at which you can disintegrate the parts, to make some use of the tractorbeams the vulture and reclaimer got.
    Honestly I don't think they can currently do much more than that considering the proper system would require maelstrom to be fully implemented first and who knows how long that is actually still away. It's certainly a nice T0 implementation though.

    The ladder on the Vulture bugs out constantly and glitches you through the hull to the outside. To work around it, just walk backwards to jump down without doing the ladder animation.

    Does this not work on ship pieces you find in asteroid belts? It worked fine for my salvage missions. But I can’t get it to fracture or suck up the ship pieces I find on my own after I strip them. Or it’s possible I did something in-between that I needed to undo before they work again…

    i think it would be cool if they keep like the supper charged effect with te elctricity, but instead of just kind of making it break. making it act more like the scraping beams are now supper charged and are used as cutting beams to split up the parts.
    that way you need to actually do the cutting and stuff to completely break it down, i think that would be more intresting. and that could also mean you need to learn the best ways to cut the ship to make the seconed step of collecting the parts more efficient.
    but i don't know

    Yeah i feel like its a bit too quick well. I feel it should take a tad bit longer and give more scu worth of cargo, cause it feels wierd getting less cargo from a chunk of hull frame then the outer skin. Also it would be cool if instead if disintegrating you just keeps the scrapers and collect that way, it would keep it more interactive that way as well

    I think a simple change for the vulture and the gameplay becomes immediately more engaging but no less difficult really. just make the vulture have to get the broken up ship parts in between the arms before it can disintegrate and collect it. for the reclaimer, the claw should be used to 'cut' the ship into pieces and then grab them to retract them into the disintegration field?
    edit: didn't think about how to fracture on the vulture, but i guess the same way, for each part of the ship, gotta get it in the arms and cut it off, yes it'll take longer, but it's way more engaging

    • @user-bh6hi6cr5h

      It’s the same buffer for both. So depending on the size of the ship, you can scrape the hull and disintegrate it before you need to empty the buffer.

  • @justindixon7441
    @justindixon7441 8 месяцев назад

    I know one of the big issues was the amount the buffer holds on the reclaimer. As a solo reclaimer pilot who spends the VAST majority of my time in space, it's a welcome change for me. The hull breaking should be a minigame though, I agree with that criticism people have put out.

  • @vulcan4d

    Those vulture arms should be able to widen to accomodate bigger. If you dont think so then sure but its a $175 ship and not cheap so with such a limitation maybe it should be $75.

    • @BizzMRK
      @BizzMRK 8 месяцев назад

      the idea is that you cut down pieces of the hull into managable chunks and move it through the shredder beams into the grinder under the cockpit. This requires the maelstrom system for physicalized damage first though.

  • @realnerdyviking812
    @realnerdyviking812 8 месяцев назад

    Yeah I think the easiest solution to structural salvage is a 1-1 copy from mining. Each ship has a randomised "optimised" zone for resonant frequency or something. Maybe how hard it is to break depends on how much you've scraped. So a fully scraped ship might be a LOT easier to break and absorb. Once you've broken it, the vacuum is fine because that's what is in mining and it's great. Another comment on the structural salvage is that it's so fast and you get so much, why even hull scrape? Besides it being super fun, there's comparatively zero profit associated with doing it.

    The animation with the lightning is cool, but I'd rather have lightning strikes atomizing the ship parts piece for piece and then use the salvage lasers as a kind of vacuum to suck it up, rather than just this small cloud of particles coming to the ship in between the arms, while the rest (?) just glows up and dissolves. I really hope they change that, but otherwise it is really cool that they're working on stuff like that, because nobody else ever did something similar.

    Tbh, I'd be afraid of going up and down the ladder in the Vulture in QT. More than once have I managed to fall out of the ship just going down the ladder, which isn't an issue if you're just sitting there salvaging, if that happens when you're in QT, you better hope the beacon system works xD

    I agree that it's way too quick to salvage the ships but they probably did that to incentivize players to do that gameplay loop in order to get as much data as possible. I do hope it get's more complex though but I suspect they'll just make it the same as mining, which in itself isn't a terrible thing but I'd like to see more unique ways of controlling different equipment rather than everything being a beam that requires you to balance power.

      @@BizzMRK Yes, haven't played it yet, but yet. When I salvage alone, which is almost always how I do it, I do it phases currently. First phase I take my Hull A and pull as much cargo as will fit. Second phase I take my Cutlass Black and grab weapons, components and any cargo that didn't fit on my Hull A. Third phase I take my Vulture and strip the hull.
      I know people say the weapons and components are worth it, but the way I view it, they are there and I'm not going to waste free money.
      Last night a friend of mine and me were using my Vulture and his Nomad. He grabbed cargo and weapons while I was stripping the hull. The size 4 cannons on the Corsair are 6300 each if I remember correctly. The powerplants on a 400i are 9300 each and there are 3 of them. I haven't been able to pull any components from the Corsair or the shield generator from the 400i. The coolers on the 400i aren't sold in game so their sold value is zero uec.

    You didn't salvage the entire ship in five minutes. It's too quick because you didn't remove the skin. When you break it up with the skin on you get nothing for the skin. You're only getting the "structure" SCU. To fix this game play loop, all they have to do is make it so you can't break up (munch) the structure without having stripped at least 90% of the skin off of the ship.

    Alright, before I watch the video, I'm paused on 0:02 waiting on food... I'm going to try and predict what fanboy Olli's first impressions are going to be.
    My prediction is... 'amazing' and 'mind blowing'.
    Edit: You also completely misunderstand people's issue with this. It isn't because it's 'too simple compared to other gamemodes'. It's because they turned hull munching, a thing where people were imagining something along the lines of Hardspace Shipbreaker, and turned it into 'point at target, vacuum up money'. Even the fact you said you 'really like the visuals and audio'. Wtf, the visuals and audio are absolute garbage...
    Yes, it's going to be updated and added to over time, but the question that has been brought up is, why did they bother at all? This is nothing like what we were sold on, not even a start to it. This is literally just Beam Citizen, you point at something and suck it up. And the fact is, they completely changed the entire design of the Reclaimer's claw. This suggests that this is in fact the kind of gameplay they have decided to go with, rather than what they have showed us in the past.
    This isn't hullbreaking... this is using a space vacuum.

    00:12 - 00:52 - Exactly!! - Certain loud minority RUclipsrs make their money bitchin about almost everything CIG does, and little ever seems good enough for them. Glad you resisted the temptation to jump on this particular bandwagon Ollie, bacuse I will never back a bitcher with any kind of support.

    Yeah, it should take longer and it should be way more difficult, skillbased. This is just boring to me at least.
    The animation also lacks a little, is fine for a first iteration tho I guess.

    I'd ignore "controversy" from the Star Citizen community for the most part. Spectrum is ALWAYS outraged about something, and the sales numbers are always good in spite of them. Taking what Spectrum is angry about as the opinion of the average SC player is like taking the general opinion of Twitter / X as the opinion of the general populace.
    In both cases it's just the vocal minority doing their thing. Ignore Spectrum, you'll be a happier Star Citizen player as a result.

    For some reason? You can’t even comprehend why so many players are apprehensive about the dumbed down Reclaimer mechanic.

    Shoot a laser if you want to...
    Kill someone
    Heal someone
    Break a rock
    Move a box (or vehicle)
    Strip a hull
    And now structural salvage.
    Just about _every_ process in this game involves shooting a beam at something. It's getting a bit old. And seems very lazy programming.

    Very anti-climatic. I don't like that you basically zap it with a mining beam and is magically vanishes. CIG NEEEDS to change this to something that physically breaks it down. CIG has always meet or exceeds the backers expectations but this mechanic, at least in this form falls completely flat.

    If we're looking at disintegration and storing of materials as pattern information, then we're in Star Trek replicator territory. If that's the case, there's no need to mine or salvage any particular material because any and every material will just be a data pattern that requires a lot of energy to materialize. In that scenario, you only care about harvesting energy. There's no good explanation for having replicator technology but then claiming that you have to mine specific ores / materials as well. You can make up anything in Science Fiction but in real science, you're full of poo.
