Alice Cooper has told a story about his time with John during John's "Lost Weekend." He has said that someone said something bad about Paul and John went "ballistic." I also read an interview-and damned if I wish I could pull up the link. I don't even remember who this guy was. But I remember clearly what he said. He was working with John and George and they had both come up to him separately to tell him that they could criticize Paul, but he couldn't.

The addition of "Helen Wheels" on side 2 (as with the original USA release in late 1973) of the half-speed remaster really adds to an already great album. It's a great rocker with a traveling theme that fits right in with the spirit of the album much as the title cut "Band on the Run."

    • @NorsePJ
      @NorsePJ 8 месяцев назад +2

It was the same here in Australia. The song "Helen Wheels" was always on side 2. But in Australia, the inner lyric sheet also included its lyrics. This was missing from the US which only covered the other songs. So, I always preferred the Australian LP as it seemed more complete.

    • @denniswood1437
      @denniswood1437 8 месяцев назад

They should have then released the half-speed remaster as the original Australian version. The Australian & USA versions were actually better than the original UK release.@@NorsePJ

@@denniswood1437 When I bought the 2CD Archive Collection version, I was annoyed at how they went with the UK song line-up on disc one. I will actually look for the standard CD from either the US or Australia which has the "Helen Wheels" song as I'm used to. After decades of being used to the particular line-up of songs, it's just what I prefer. The second disc isn't anything special. I never play it.
I'm the same with bonus tracks, which I don't mind. However, I don't like them on the same disc. If it's an album I'm used to. I like the album to finish the way I'm accustomed to. It's a 'tism thing.

You know I’ve always felt younger people, my kids 24 & 27, were gipped out of the experience of buying albums. I remember going to the mall after school and just going thru all the records at Sam Goody until I found a cool cover. Digital music has taken part of the experience away.

Oh boy! Lot’s to unpack here.
I’ll take a shot at it. First off
    my favourite album of Paul’s
is Ram. Band on the Run comes
in at number two. It’s always felt
like a very summery album to me.
    Sunshine and lollipops.
    Here’s my issue:
Is this something we really need?
    How many different remastered
versions are there of this fine album?
It’s a little overkill. My music is all digital
for practicality reasons and I picked up
the Undubbed BotR. I find it a little
    underwhelming really. Nothing that
makes me go “Wow”. It’s nice and all
but a must have? Not so much.
I’ve always felt that there has always been
something just a little lopsided about Beatle
and Beatle related releases. Of course I’m
not talking about the original releases but
rather remasters and box sets an the like.
Don’t get me wrong, I really LOVE all that
stuff but there’s always something about
them that just doesn’t sit right with me.
For instance: Red and Blue instead of
Rubber Soul, weird little EP in the
    Revolver box, missing complete
    uninterrupted rooftop performance
on Let It Be. There are other examples
but you get the picture. I believe the only
sets that got it right were the Plastic Ono Band
and Imagine box sets. Those are really fantastic.
When it comes to Paul’s stuff it’s off putting.
I can’t help but feel that it’s about the money.
His box sets are outrageously expensive and
are quite frankly on this side of overkill.
Just look at the debacle presented to
collectors with all the variations of
    McCartney iii.
Anyways, Band on the Run is a stone
cold classic and sounds great. Come to
think of it I would have been more than
amazed if the original cassette that they
lost in the mugging had been found. Now
    that would be interesting!

Those of you who collect vinyl make a lot of salient points which truly illustrate the power of Jann. If he wanted to keep visuals, liner notes, packaging, etc. an essential aspect of the industry, why didn't he do something about it? Why didn't he invest and change with the times? Or was it that he enjoyed the exclusivity of the few who were collectors? Thanks for getting me thinking.

I'm interested in outtakes, especially from McCartney's sessions. Some of the songs left off his albums are gems that are better than the ones that ended up on albums. This is the main reason I am hoping more archive collections come out. We still don't have official releases of Waterspout, Cage or Yvonne. On the other hand, I don't have much time for unfinished music like the stuff on this release. I've been pretty disappointed in Paul's releases since 2020 ended - no new album, no archive sets. I haven't bought any of his releases since McCartney III, so I've been saving money, but not having much fun.

    @bradley8368 8 месяцев назад +1

I totally agree, Michael, “Ram” has always been my favourite McCartney post-Beatles album; but I also think that “Band on the Run” has been strangely underrated, not by McCartney fans, but just in general. In my humble opinion, I think that much of Paul’s music in the 1970s was unfairly considered inferior to John’s (in part for reasons that you mentioned), which was only exacerbated after Lennon’s murder, but also George’s, based on the enormous backlog of songs that he had written and were finally released like a tsunami on “All Things Must Pass.”
I’ve seen a few reviews of the “Underdubbed” mixes of BOTR that stated that these were a waste of money and time, because, there was no value in listening to something when all you heard was what was missing. I disagree. What’s fascinating is the glimpse you get into all of the components that made these recordings so marvellous, how the overdubs lifted the songs to a new level, and, if you really pay attention, to the possible thought processes that were coursing through McCartney’s brain as he recorded these tracks and imagined what they could become.

I've got my copy on CD. On the second disc, the title track is weak. I miss the extra guitar in the middle "if I ever get out of here" section, and the playful guitars in the later chorus of the main song. The orchestra play-in to the main song is missed as well. But once we get passed that, I love the album. I've seen a lot of the criticism on Nineteen Hundred for not having vocals, but I'm fine with it. It should had finished the album though.

I got the original album for my 12th birthday back in April 1974. I loved it but I will admit that my friends weren't as keen on Wings as I was. It took until 1976 and the world tour for them to come around to respecting solo Paul material. I thought there must be something wrong with with me for liking Ram when it was panned as garbage by almost everyone who was hip Nowadays, it makes me laugh that the hipsters are acting contrary in the other direction and praising Paul's early solo work.I will always love this era and the material whether it's cool to do or not.

Yes I am in your camp. I have four editions already so I am passing on this. I hear the underdubbed was selling well that MPL had to produce more copies as they sold out. Underdubbed is Paul being very crafty with words which he excels at. Rockdown, etc...I love Paul but he is a genius at marketing and manipulation. I love BOTR and like most the original 1977 recording still remains the best sonically to listen too. I am an oddity in that I love Venus and Mars just as much. There is a great video on RUclips at the moment where they go through McCartney's twenty best songs he gave away to other artists. It really shows what a genoius he was/is. His instruemental Love in the Open Air is an amazing mature instruemental piece, Woman, Goodbye, Come and Get It and on and on it goes. I love all the four Beatles but simply do not believe the others including John could produce such a vast array of music across every genre like McCartney did and continues to do so. Jann Wenner and RS pi'** me right of with their continual suggesting that John is better than Paul in every aspect. In all there rankings they always put John way ahead but without any real jutification. RAM I too adore. Ram on Michael!.

Lennon brought Paul and George into the group( which the order original group's year is arguable; even wikipedia does not know: i say 58, theres a pic of John holding Cynthia's hand in art school that year; the group Fab3 had Geo, Paul and John developing growing playing writing,an actual existance at that point)to make the band stronger, which shows Lennon's wisdom, though according to newbie fans,he's a violent wackjob with no talent contrasting with Sir MacCa.I highly enjoyed this Beatletalk😻
