    It was my first ever final. My first ever Friday night game at the G. The biggest crowd I’ve ever seen. And probably my favourite game I’ve ever attended by a very long stretch. I think a fair chunk of the blame does go to Beveridge, when the game was slipping away from them, the one guy (obviously Bont) with the talent, power and skills to get them back into it was standing at half forward, a kick in front of the play. Nothing made me happier than seeing him NOT in the centre and in the thick of every stoppage.

    • @daztalksfooty
      @daztalksfooty  Месяц назад +1

      I reckon as skipper he's got the ability to go "stuff everyone, I'm bringing us back in this" and he didn't.

    • @spindoctor6385
      @spindoctor6385 Месяц назад

      @@daztalksfooty Yeah, I agree, he should call the shots. It is hard to know how much freedom any coach gives his players to make those decisions. If the coach says "I want you at half forward" do you disobey?
      That decision probably should have come from both of them, but if Bont has the freedom to go where he wants and isn't then it is up to Beveridge to tell him to get his ass in the middle and impact the game.
      Either way, I am glad neither thought it was a good idea.

    • @supmethods
      @supmethods Месяц назад

      @@spindoctor6385 It could simply be Bont couldn't get possession simply the other team was better. Sicily had a quite night in previous games, and Sam Mitchell moved him to the forward and kicks 3 games. Sometimes switching position works well, so hard to say about the decision.

  • @spindoctor6385
    @spindoctor6385 Месяц назад +5

    One of my favourite things of the whole night was seeing a hint of aggression from Calsher. He has always been agressive at the ball and man in play, but the little shove he gave after taking the mark late in the third makes me think he is really starting to believe he not only belongs out there but can intimidate oponents too. He is going to be a big boy when he starts shaving. His body looks more like his uncle at the moment but if he fills out through the legs and shoulders like gis dad, he will be a formiddable presence

    Your Hawks will smash the Power. That loss to Port courtesy of 2 goals in the last 23 seconds will be a distant memory after you send them packing in straight sets again. When you get to the prelim anything is possible. No team has performed better than the Hawks over the last 3 months and regardless of where you finish this year, next year the Hawks will be favourite to win the whole shebang. I'm very jealous of what the Hawks have achieved and how quickly they've transformed from no good to excellent.

    Hey Daz, what a win. I was spewing this game was announced for Friday night. As the mrs and I had Iron Maiden & Killswitch Engage tickets at Rod Laver Arena which we got months ago.
    Anyway, my plan was to park at crown and basically b-line straight to the car and go home and watch the game (as I recorded it)
    I made it all the way to South Bank near Flinders Street before hearing a familiar voice yell "I'm planning my trip to Adelaide for next week boys"
    I turn around and that person was Robert "Dipper" DiPierdomenico. I put two and two together instantly and the results was spoiled for me.
    But, if I'm gonna have spoilers from anybody. I'd want to be a Hawthorn legend.
    I'm patiently waiting for Sydney vs Giants game. I think Hawks chances of making a grand final significantly improve if we play the Giants over Sydney

    Well done on the win.
    Props to the hawks powers that be that backed in Mitchell and let clarko go firstly. That's a big brave move.
    On mitchell, couldn't be more impressed.
    In an interview this year he mentioned 3 years ago he had to ask himself what is footy going to look like in three years and train his team to play that way. So when they were good, they had 3 years experience already of modern footy while other teams were new to it. He seems to have nailed that
    After Dusty's 300 game, he spoke about how same games are events and footy games and how it was an opportunity to play in front of a big crowd and get something like a finals atmosphere. The guy is always thinking big picture.

Blanck will be back available and the undersized backline has low key been a massive strength for us this year. Battle is worth bringing in as a FA but don't really see much point in going for Barrass unless we get him cheap (I know, he's a gun KPD, but I just love the way our backline has operated this year).

    Honestly, I really enjoyed your little passionate-stream-of-consciousness-awestruck-happy post match analysis here. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with everything you said. I though Harry Morrison was a little better than you have suggested here, but everything else you nailed it. Great stuff.
    I have been watching Hawthorn play since the 70's, believe it or not. I was at the game where Leigh Matthews broke a point post. I remember well Greg dear and Paul Dear playing. (I don't know which one of those two is Calsher's father.) But here is the point. I have never seen a more joyful Hawthorn side. I have seen Hawthorn teams that are tougher. More disciplined. More Star studded. More experienced certainly. But I have never seen such joy in playing the game. And I really believe that joy can be just as powerful motivator as passion, training and experience. Certainly not a replacement for those things, but a crucial ingredient. Yeah, joy is the only word that really describes what Hawthorn has. And I have never seen anything like the Hawthorn I am watching now.
    Go Hawks. And thanks again for your enthusiasm for the game and your insights. Port Adelaide should be nervous about next week. Because we are coming. Cheers. :)
