Ngl after years of being emotionally open to my friends and family, shutting up and keeping almost everything to myself feels so much better, idk why but just not having to tell people interesting stuff all the time is relieving
I feel the same. I used to think it was better and healthier to share all of my feelings and also to act on each of those feelings. Now ive learned to savor my private momments without the need to let them bleed out to others. Also i learned to wait for my emotions to pass without acting on them. This is difficlt as everything in ur body wants u to DO something. But i have learned that doing exactly what ur body does not want u to do is sometimes better in the long run.
Yup, I like it more to be open on some things and feelings and just when I want them to know and just keep the rest for myself.
It's fun to tell them sometimes but it's nice just to choose not to.

This is an advice I took to heart. When I was a kid, I couldn’t stop running my mouth because I couldn’t stop talking. Eventually I got in trouble because I said things that I would regret.

A Quote from Mark Twain:
"It's one thing for people to believe you stupid, but it's another thing entirely to open your mouth and confirm it!"
I don't think that was the flaw in this story, but still a great quote. Also your name 100% sounds like an author's name.
"You need to breath less.
Let me explain.
This dude was tortured and killed savagely while he was breathing."
Was it Napoleon who said "Never interrupt your enemy, when he is making a mistake."? Ever since I heard that, I got so much better in negotiation, arguments and just simply setting and keeping boundaries.
Edit (please read to the end, if the meaning of the quote is unclear): oh wow! Thanks for the likes and comments, guys!
So since there is some debate about the meaning of the quote, I thought I'd share what I make of it. Of course as it is with many great quotes, things can be subjectively interpreted sometimes, to help you in your particular situation or multiple situations in life. With that in mind, what it means for me is:
"Don't interrupt your enemy, when they are digging a hole for themselves". The hole being, e.g. making up a story, showing off, being misinformed or trying to manipulate. I used to go "I know exactly what you're doing!" before they actually finished what they were saying, so they knew that I knew and they could in essence gaslight me. Now I just shut up and use the time preparing myself (be it with arguments or an exit-plan of some sort).
If your enemy is being physically violent, by all means interrupt them and get the hell out of there! And if your enemy is about to run their bicycle into a tree, also don't stand there and watch, but do the decent thing and warn them. Violence or physical damage is not the "mistake" that is meant by the quote. It is only meant in an intellectual, argumentative way, or when people are disproving what they say with the actions they take. If anyone is in physical danger, it is under no circumstance the time to think about silly quotes, but to take action in order to prevent damage to yourself and others.
You mind explaining this quote it’s really interesting

This is actually something we learned in politics, sometimes the best thing for a candidate is just to be quiet. There was an anecdote from a campaign manager, and his candidate was running for mayor. This was an easy win, he had his name out in the community, and the incumbent mayor had a HUGE and really bad scandal. The problem was, every time his candidate went in TV, or a debate, or knocking on doors, he would lose support. This campaign manager heavily urged him to just shut up, but he never did. So even with all the odds stacked in his favour, he lost by a landslide.

I HATE BEING TOLD TO SHUT UP
My sister when she starts talking over me:
Actually, this video short is quite inaccurate.
First and foremost, your entire story is reliant upon the story of Shakespeare, which of course lays the groundwork for historical inaccuracy.
1.) You should realize that Coriolanus was already part of the Senate before the Siege of Corioli (the battle which he won against the Volscians,) meaning he was no mysterious figure since he was already well known back then.
2.) There are no historical sources that definitively shows that Coriolanus ever ran for office. Because of this, there is a huge chance that his loss for the elections was fictionized by Shakespeare himself.
3.) The main reason why he was expelled out of Rome was due to the fact that he wanted to abolish the rights of the plebs and the powers of the plebeian tribune. It was also at this moment where Rome was suffering a famine, and he proposed that they are only to be given aid if they consent to his proposals. Of course, the plebeian tribune was not very happy to hear this and they wanted him on trial. He never attended the trial because of his belief that sub-human plebeians had no place to prosecute a patrician who defended an entire city. which of course angered the tribune for the 2nd time, which ultimately led to his conviction.
The problem that I wanted to point out is this. The reason for his downfall was because of his pride, not necessarily through "not shutting up." In fact, you should always use your voice for the better, always learn to fight for what is right. And you should never shut up due to the fear of being embarrassed. It is never wrong to be corrected, it is never wrong TO be wrong. Learn how to find your voice, and learn WHEN to listen, but never learn when to shut up.
And you're reply is great example of why I disliked the video.
Thanks for teaching me something new.
I agree with just about all of that!
I also think "learning when to shut up" should refer to "learning when to listen," to give room to others to share their opinions just as you do. So with that:
We should learn to give our own voice, *and* we should learn when to shut up.
And of course the right person get the least like.

I can't stress enough how thankful I'd be if people would just shut up more.
You take a Shakespearean play and interpret it through a modern lens. His political opponents made promises to the people they had no intention of keeping. The people supported his political enemies because he was too proud to play politics. He just said : This is what I have done for you. Look at my record.
The people, however, voted for sweet lies and false promises rather than hard truths.
Remind you of modern politics ? Seriously, do you see the parallels ?
His eventual execution by the Volsci comes about because he betrays his own values...and shows mercy and compassion to Rome when he has the city at his mercy. He has pity for those who had betrayed him... and it destroys him.

Depends on the interpretation of the story. I could see this story as an advice to learn how to socialize properly, or just learn what you can first before doing anything big.
I assume that Coriolanus didnt have any experience on either making political speech or socializing in front of the masses so that he unknowingly alienate his would be supporter. If he were to properly learn politics or, at least, learn about what he shouldn't do in front of the masses. Then he might not have such disastrous outcome.
I agree. The lesson I see isn’t talk less, but simply don’t be a cocky asshole cause surprisingly people don’t like that.
Just be careful with your words, as not everything works in every crowd.
The story goes actually like this
Coriolanus was a great general.
There was a grain shortage in Rome, but some was bought by the senate from Sicily.
Coriolanus told the senate, that plebeians should get nothing.
Senate wanted to sort of sue him for that harsh advice.
He never went to court and was banished.
