A DNA vaccine has been developed that could be a game changer for HER2 positive breast cancer patients.
A phase 1 Trial published in the JAMA oncology tested the vaccine on 66 women with metastatic disease.jamanetwork.com/journals/jama...

    03:58 What happens next?
The vaccine encourages the body to mount an immune response to breast cancer cells that over-express the HER2 receptor.
The study showed that the vaccine was safe - with only minor side effects similar to the Covid vaccine. But it also showed that over ten years, 80% of the women were still alive (only 50% were expected to live that long).
A phase II trial is now going ahead to test the vaccine on a larger group of patients, and in the years to come, there could be a possible treatment and even cure for HER2+ breast cancer patients. Similar trials are also being done with vaccines for TNBC patients.

Hi im in the Flamingo trial for the vaccine here in Tucson AZ. I hope to get the drug but if not I am happy to be able to help another woman in the future. My mom had the same cancer as me, triple positive, and she was in the clinical trial for Herceptin. Its so important that we do these trials to move the science forward. Thanks so much for sharing this info.

I was Her2 positive, have had double mastectomy. If I have understood this, this has so far only been tested in metastatic her2, much like Herceptin was in the beginning. If this does prove to be effective this is huge and hopefully will not meet the resistance from scientists and NICE that Herceptin did in the beginning. I wonder if the aim with this vaccine is to eventually replace treatments such as Herceptin and Perjeta in stage 1 onwards.

Yes. I could say that it doesn’t apply to me personally, but one never knows does she? I am thrilled for ALL advances being made in cancer treatments/prevention, regardless of the type, but get especially excited when they are for BC. Understandably.

I had Her2+ plus Er+ breast cancer Stage 1, age 71. I am in Canada. Where are these trials taking place? How soon do you think a vaccine will be available? Could all women get the vaccine prior to any cancer diagnosis? Thank you for this encouraging news. I really enjoy and appreciate all your posts.

Thanks for these informative sharings Linda. I have HER2 positive cancer with metastasis on the lymph nodes. I have just completed my planned chemotherapy and soon will have the surgery. I’m wondering if I am eligible to be recruited for the test of the vaccine and who should I contact to discuss this.
I also have a request if possible. Can you please share your knowledge about eating sugar and red meat during cancer treatment. I’ve read conflicting opinions about this. 🙏

Hello, and thank you for this video. My sister is interested in getting into trials as she has metastatic her2 positive breast cancer, stage 4. We live in Canada, which is notoriously slow on the uptake to have Health Canada approved new medication so we are concerned about the wait time for trials and approval and so she is really trying to get into a trial for this type of vaccine. Do you have any advice for people who are looking to get into trials?

I was treated for HER2+/ER+ 5 years ago, I didn't have a full pathological response and too far out of tx to qualify for Kadcyla. Are the clinical trials available in the UK? Not sure I have 5 more years to wait for this to become available.

Hi Liz, could you do a video on tumor resection in case of de novo MBC (prticularly in oligometastatic disease) on top of systemic treatment since you are a surgeon? There is lots of recent results from trials and studies that are quite interesting. I think this is not a subject that is sufficiently covered, as the standard position is that the cells have already "left the barn" but studies have shown that there may be an improvement depending on the type.

When this vaccine becomes available to the public will it only be available in the UK? Will it move quickly to the world like the Covid vaccine? What will the cost be? If it is approved will insurance companies cover it and control the price? Her2 positive patients want to do more than thrive but be survivors. Thanks so much for sharing this information. I hope that it will be networked around the world.

Why does my Oncologist say that the Letrozole won't give me more benefit after 5 years. She submitted the cancer info to some sort of indicator... and it came back no further benefit?
Also.... why is there no screening for breast area if there is no reconstruction after a mastectomy?
