to all hoping, i had the great pleasure of talking to Stephan years ago about this EP. He said it wont find the time of day, simply because it doesnt represent pup for who they are now. He actually gave me a link to a few songs off of this ep, namely sick n cold and fogo island. He stressed to me that he did not want to find this online. The only reason they changed to PUP was because Disney released a movie named Topanga.
If I may ask, this is my first time hearing about why they changed their name and am confused. if Disney made a movie named Topanga too did that happen before or after PUP named themselves? or is there some other reason why they had to do it?
@@ob3sepotatoe110 It's actually not a movie. Topanga is the name of a character from Boy Meets World. They named the band after her bc Stefan and I think the other guys from the band had a crush on her when they were younger. The series was kinda old so they didn't cared but then Disney announced Girl Meets World and Topanga would appear again so they changed the name to PUP, because according to Stefan grandmother, the band was a "Pathetic Use of Potential". It's all on Wikipedia.
I feel like all the songs on this album/demo should be released as a sort of B-side or AT LEAST a zine/re-release there's so much absolute gold on this little tape that deserves WAY MORE attention than what its getting.

Just reminiscing one of their old shows as Topanga at a place called the Rockpile. I went to originally see one of my friends other bands and Topanga was opening for them. The guys came on stage wasted as fuck with neon glow stick glasses. Literally burst out laughing. The songs were so good but they just kept falling over laughing and fucking up the songs. Knew I had to follow them and so happy for them now.
I hope PUP has so many more hidden gems like this that will all surface one day. Hopefully they release some of it themselves! I would LOVE to have a CD of this. The difference in sound in lionheart, mabu, and back against the wall sound awesome! So many good songs I wish get more popular.
On the topic of hidden gems and if i am tracking right, they have that one "unreleased" track that shipped with their last zine, and then there was that new song they played in some concerts right before corona shut everything down. Oh, and they dropped a "live from quarantine"

You talkin about Whiskey and Water or The Shield? Cause The Shield is like bordering on bluegrass during the uptempo part, it's awesome! Whichever one you meant, I'll say good lookin out son - they're such a complex band as influences and inspirations go, it's friggin awesome!
