  • Patients with systemic sclerosis sometimes have comorbid skeletal myopathy conditions, such as myositis. This overlap is not well understood, but rheumatologist Julie Paik is searching for answers. In her latest research, Paik performed extensive phenotypes on nearly 700 patients who had both systemic sclerosis and skeletal myopathy. Her findings show that patients with both conditions have a higher overall disease burden and risk of mortality. Paik shares more on the study, which she’ll present during a poster session at the American College of Rheumatology 2022 annual conference.
