I'll be completing some Zelda: TotK challenge runs.
What might you like to see first?
Only spears sounds cool ngl
only throwing items, weapons and objects like rocks to deal damage
All shrines no paraglider.
Only wearing the ruby patting or only using zonite weapons
M
I like that the in-game rules are consistent, like the dazzlefruit being a legitimate source of light for that last puzzle
I tried using a vehicle light for those and was sad when it didn't work.
@@happycamperds9917 I've tried it with Brightbloom seeds and got the same result. I think it's because both Mirrors and Dazzlefruit can be used to blind enemies, so they're basically treated as having the same effects on other objects too.
Lmao wtf why would the "in game rules" not be consistent? You must be brain dead
If this game was put out by say... Ubisoft than this would definitely be an issue and would turn into a frustrating experience.
I don't have as much universal love for Nintendo as most it seems. I'm more of a Sony guy in terms of what types of games I usually prefer. But Nintendo put so much love and care into their products. They realize that if you take the extra time to polish something you won't just get the upfront money from the sale, but you'll build long term loyalty and love for literal decades. Then people will at least be interested in everything you release.
@@Irisverse I like to think of it as the difference between normal glow/light (eg torches, zonai lights, brightblooms) and the *element* of light, like the kind rauru has from his secret stone. The sage elements (minus spirit & time) all have status effect equivalents (burning, frozen, electrocuted, and ig technically ragdoll for wind) so I think thats why only the ones that blind work is because they're flagged as an element rather than a vision source
Love that this isn’t even the “wrong” way to solve a shrine, because Eiji Aonuma himself said that he intended for players to do things differently.
We should remember that mirrors working using dazzle fruit could have easily been not programmed in, and only mirrors made to work, but it wasn’t!
As a programmer, I can't even see how that would happen if it's not intentional, it's two completely different game mechanics that would have no reason to interact if not programmed in
Light beam from mirror:
Stuns
Light blast from Dazzlefruit:
Stun
Maybe the light plates are just sensitive to stun effects, and that’s how it was programmed?
@@WO_21 Oh, maybe so. Can we parry the plate somehow?
@@Mikemk_i think that light is its own "element" like electricity, ice, fire, and water, and the plates activate when exposed to enough of the light element
@@Mikemk_ I program games, and usually they will create a series of 'element' classes and give objects interactions with the elements, then have other objects create the elements. It creates more interesting gameplay and is a lot less work than manually programming interactions.
Here they just have a light element and the dazzlefruit creates a light hitbox for x time, while the mirror creates a persistent light hitbox. Both of them stun enemies and both of them trigger light sensors without it needing to be programmed that way explicitly. Otherwise they'd have to manually program every source of fire doing fire things, light doing light things, etc etc etc.
For the magma- fuse a hydrant to your shield! it’s so much faster/more efficient even if the durability sucks
Plus a hydrant shield is a good way to punk the Mucktorock too.
@@TarossBlackburn You can also use the Yiga Schematic for the Sprinkler - 3 of those basically sludge-proofs the entire arena you fight in, and even 1 gives you a permanently sludge-free zone to launch attacks from
Make an opal rod
anything water or ice-based. Throw some fruit, or chu-chus, opal or sapphire, fuse onto forest dweller's weapon for repeat use, etc etc. Turning lava into stone can be done a thousand ways.
@@UberBubba712but they are more expensive
I did the same thing in the Flow proving grounds! I was trying to move something with ultrahand and realized I could move the platforms. I honestly thought that was intended! Like a secret tutorial to show you that most monsters can't swim. It was VERY helpful in Lurelin!
Lots of the time in this game a shrine will teach you a technique which can be used to 'cheat' other shrines, showing that its' actually intended by the developers. Its very cool game design.
Most of these are really creative approaches, awesome video. A lot of these don't even really feel like cheese, but just an alternate solution that requires some creativity/thinking outside the box.
I like that you Can “cheat” your way through the game if you want but I honestly find the intended solution to be more fun in like 80% of cases
but there is no "intented" way.......
that's the beauty of the shrines, and why the game (for me) is so fun.
@@chrismeulen8108 Almost all shrine puzzles have an intended way you're supposed to do them which doesn't use materials from outside the shrine. Just because nintendo is fine with other cheese methods doesn't mean there is no intended method. At the end of the day, I have to agree with the original commenter. If you're solving 80% of shrines using rockets and bombs to completely skip the puzzle, you aren't being smart, you're just optimizing out the fun.
@chrismeulen8108 there is absolutely an intended way to complete shrines, but theres just alternative options you can do by using objects from outside the shrine or cheesing it with your runes
I’m pretty sure pulling out the rafts from under them was intended. I think that shrine is designed around being able to drown them all.
Actually I think the intended solution is that you jump to the lower level of the raft, then chop it so the whole thing collapses and drowns the construct. That’s how I have done it previously. I love the ultra hand method, though. Brilliant. 👍🏻
Well, ultra hand was my first solution. Didn't even think there was another option aside from actually fighting everything. 😂
Lmao, I just went full Rambo and died a million times because I’m stupid
Totk is literally just The Legend of Zelda: I’ll Allow It
You weren’t supposed to have your equipment in proving grounds:flow
I think because there replaying it they have there stuff
@@Crazywither And the enemies are still in them? That'd make for a nice way to farm Zonai materials for clothing if that's the case.
he already did the shrine tho
@@Catalyst375 better than that, there is a shrine with the tag "lights out" i don't recall the name, but in that is iirc 3 rubies and an enemy with a ruby sword (which you can break apart in tarry town to get a 4th ruby) 4 rubies per blood moon is pretty good.
@hawkinskimball9224 You are correct. I already completed that one, I was just giving a demonstration for the video.
for Courage to Pluck, i fused every single pieces together and then just moved the entire tower over to where i was and unfused the ball lol
Ha
Great video! It’s crazy how stuck my brain is in “this video games puzzle must be solved in only one way” mode. Tears of the Kingdom, and my 6 year old daughter playing with me, has really helped me see some very obvious and interesting solutions to things.
I love this game so much.
Edit: 0:59 subbing because you taught me you can aim projectiles. Thank you.
Some very clever solutions here. I discovered a few of these on my own, but most of these are new to me. It's satisfying stuff when you figure out how to "break" a shrine.
Quick note for the second one (fusing a cannon to a weapon for switch puzzles)
Bomb flowers work just as well and I personally find it easier so use them because they can be fused to arrows for longer range and better accuracy.
Thanks for the shout out man, at 1:34 when I did that shrine I attached the ball to the front of that car and stood it up next to the ladder, lifted it as far as it would go, climbed the ladder, recalled it back up and snatched the ball off of it. And the way you showed for Power of Water was actually the exact way I did it because my ape brain didn't grasp the concept of placing the battery on the nodes.
Went around to see if there were any others I myself could solven't because your initial video put the idea in my head, found that the one called Building with Logs can be done with a series of bomb jumps or octo baloon shields to get onto the and over the ramps and first lake and then just swim across the lake at the end. And Built to Carry can be done by climbing up to the ball and using a bomb arrow to blast it over to the main platform, gotta aim for the pedestal it gets dispensed onto for enough height I think. That's all I found so far, this actually reminds me of Wand of Sparking doing this same thing but a few years ago in Breath of the Wild, neat concept all in all.
This alternate ideas are genius! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, I didn't know about some of them.
I will share mine: you can use bomb flowers to activate targets too.
In the shrine with the shield surfing, I attached a rocket to the shield, but I flew up and glided over.
In courage to pluck, I just fused everything together with ultra hand.
5:09 in TP, in the palace of twilight, there’s a part of the dungeon where you MUST ise a spin attack to light up 4 orbs to activate an elevator.
This is amazing
Gosh, I feel like Fran in that episode of Black Books with sensual voice guy. Keep talking tears of the kingdom ChocoBro! :D
I could see that last one being really useful for speeding through the lightning temple
Neat well glad to finally find that memed video of the rewind ball shrine was from but I am not missing out on a fun time using the zonal fans there like my favorite gimmick item i like a making sand riders and at the end of shrines I usual try to bring it to the end and set it off and watch it go
The Recall solution in Bridging the Sand was what I did, and I couldn't help but wonder if that was intended, since it's possible to Recall the ball even after it lands, but it occurs to me now that you could also use the same bridge you climb up with to block the ball so that it doesn't even get launched.
him: zonai cannons can be used to activate targets. me: *internally screaming*
In proving grounds: flow, I thought ultrahand is how you're supposed to do it
"The more you know", yeah after the game has been out for almost two months now and most probably have beaten it awhile ago. I bought it later, and just finished today. Had tons of fun doing all the shrines, and exploring the depths later on in game. One video I found today... like I swear no one knew it. Apparently there are cherry trees throughout the main world you can offer an apple to, and it lights up cave locations all around those area.. like wtf?! Some shrine's caves were not easy to find. Took me forever in some cases. That trick would have been so handy to know.. aghhhhhhh
your tone sounds a lot like the official nintendo english voiceover in directs, which is really funny in the context of explaining how to ignore their meticulously designed puzzles
Rewinding the launched ball in that sand shrine was exactly what I did the first time XD
Holy think-outside-the-box, Batman!
the proving ground shrine with the rafts is actually fun, unlike the ones where the enemies all gang up on you, here the enemies stay in place, so it's easier to get trough, as for the Jenga one, i removed the wrong pieces on purpose, then grabbed the ball with ultrahand while the Jenga tower was falling.
Thunder weapon glitches in BotW when you needed a constant source of power used to do a similar function... And a quick slash for a one-and-done puzzle. Also if you have a second metal object lying around... Bonus points for combat shrines!
Glad to see Shrine Cheese strats are still alive and evolving. :)
Another way for going up rails is to just keep on shield surfing since you get a tiny bit of momentum when you hit the rails.
😊I enjoyed watching this
I've been using the recall elevator a lot lately after i learned about it. Now time to try it dazzle fruit light
I recently cheesed the paddleboat shrine using recall on the ball after b using ultra Hand to raise it as high as possible so that i could grab it at the top. Then, instead of building a paddleboat, i just built a bridge to cross the water.
Nintendo making shrines without gating the finish line is the equivalent of a samurai training 1000 years with a legendary sword to fight me, only for me to come in with a gun (shield rocket).
if it works it works is what i always say. also proves that the physics engine of totk is always working excellently
addendum:
- throwing an unwanted weapon at a target also works
- fusing a hydrant to a shield lets you solidify magma faster. the same applies to a frost emitter. use them accordingly and you can cross any body of liquid even out in the open world
- shrines like proving grounds: flow, actually expect you to beat the constructs by pushing them into the water, which is why they put all of them above a body of water. a lot of other shrines expect you to defeat the enemies using the environment such as water, traps, or roombas.
- the alternating elevator was how i beat that shrine in the first place, which really made me question: why did the devs leave that part of the wall open? why didn't they just close it or lower the ceiling? it really made me question how shrines are designed and just how much the devs are toying with us
- fusing a wing to a shield and then shield jumping also gives you on the spot bullet time
I did bridging the sands like this and lmao that i didnt have to mess with all the annoying sand. Out of all of these, i feel like if you remember you have it, theres a good chance youll use it.
For the elevated rails you can actually continue to jump for momentum, but it is tedious and if you fall you have to start over again haha.
how did you have all your gear on in that proving grounds one?
In one shrine I was able to create a long bridge with ultrahand and do the first part of the trick at 5:48 to scale a gap to the end of the shrine
3:28 I genuinely thought this was the intended solution for Flow. The proving grounds are all about being resourceful when stripped of your equipment, and this was the most optimal technique I had to outclass the constructs
In "Bridging the Sands" I actually just built a wall in front of where the ball would launch. Bounced right back to me.
How do you create such stunning games? Using ML library or Python only?
Ooo you should make a video on farming useful items
These are fantastic! Thank you for posting these. I wish there were a bigger like button! (Hits subscribe on way out)
Sands thing I used recall first time before watching these videos
In the rail shrine you can do it with only 1 rocket shield if you use it to send you upward the shield surf the rest of the downward part
hey wait, would a light staff (magic staff or wand or whatever its called + star fragment) count for the light puzzle things too? sense you know, it kinda shoots out 3 balls of light.
No, since you have no way to stack the projectiles with bullet time like you can with dazzlefruit arrows.
Yep and then after you pull the rafts from underneath them you can fuse them from afar together so I was able to get rid of almost everybody on the first two levels by simply fusing the rafts structures together.
4:25 I thought this was the intended solution lol
There aren't wrong solutions. There is only a guided solution and many unguided ones. With recall i often forget that the limit is only how far you can see and how far the render distance of that object is. With some shrines you can easily move a Plattform to your destination, get it back to you and use recall to get to your destination. They could have made it that recall has a limited range to activate but they didn't.
Stuff gets easier, when you know how to use everything to your advantage. But the game offers you a lot of possibilities and you can do it multiple ways.
03:17 you are kidding me, right? lol
5:15 Here’s a not risky solution to Courage to Pluck: refuse to play Jenga by spamming Ultrahand and sticking the entire tower together, including the ball. Then just grab it, bring it back to the main platform, and remove the ball. It’s literally that simple. And no, it doesn’t exceed Ultrahand’s attachment limit.
As much as any solution is “intended” or not, dunking the constructs was also my strategy in Flow. This also works great for boko camps by the water with some ice fruit and/or a korok leaf.
Normal bomb flowers fused to arrows will also activate targets! I used that for the second target shrine you showed cause I had enough after the 10th trial on that target.
Even just bomb flowers work
he knows that, the point of these videos is to show you MULTIPLE different ways of doing things
I need to send you mine. There's a shrine where you have to fuse stuff to a giant ball so it can ride on rails all the way around the shrine arena back to the entrance. I had a grudge against that shrine. I was able to get it down from it's high platform down to the switch with well timed octoballoon arrow shots.
Bridging the Sands? More like,
Remember that you have Abilities
1:26 я просто прикрепил шар к тележке , поддержал ее воздухе какое-то время и потом другой способностью заставил ее висеть в воздухе , после чего поднялся по лестнице и забрал шар
That's how I did proving grounds flow, I just used ultra hand to wiggle stuff until the constructs fell and died
5:13
I glued everything together and took it.
HOw did you have your stuff in proving grounds flow?
For the rails shrine i just shield surfed all the way even if the rails were ascending because i didnt know what to do (i didnt use any zonai devices)
The sand slows one. I used recall on the ball after it hit the ground. There is apparently no distance max with recall lol
I never would have thought to rocket shield surf on a rail
For your hydrant solution at the beginning: instead of equipping to a weapon, bring it out as is, hit it, and UltraHand it, and you can just let the water pour out where u wanna stand.
4:13 I just automatically saw the ball flying and thought "I can recall that" so I did. I genuinely had no idea that isn't the intended way to do it
then you missed the chest at the end
@@MrDifsh What was in it? Anything useful?
@@SamanthaLaurier I don't remember. I just like having the chest icon next to the shrine name.
Unorthodox methods......but VERY, VERY USEFUL.
I also fused a lizafo skeletons and with a hydrant and it removes sludge like a vacuum after throwing it
i see you build a hoover bike can you show me how you make one. ive try and my bike keep flying off and hitting the ground lol
Somehow I couldn’t get it to work on the giant 8th heroine statue, even with a multishot bow and bullet timing very close to the dial, I was still just way too slow for it
most of the shrines are just so straightforward that cheesing them like this is the only fun I have
I remember a shrine when I doing something about minecart and rocket that told me to attach rocket to make it go on higher platform. But I just too lazy and since they provide bunch of rocket, I attach it to my shield and into rocket so when the minecart flew off , I create a double jump and finish shrine. So every shrine contain minecart I alway do that strategy
The magma one, if you fuse an opal to like a stick or something it has water balls and does a similar more effective effect
1:56 actually did the whole thing shield surfing
im surprised that nintendo didnt make a couple of shrines that utilized more of the shield surfing's rail grinding, like that one multiplayer map in sonic adventure 2
I was doing the rail shrine with a shield, and i didn't need any glitches, i just spammed shield surf because it works
Bomb Flowers can also push the buttons in shrines, and Splash Fruit work fine for the magma shrines.
if you don't have a lynel bow, a quick shot bow also works to activate the light sensors if your shots are quick enough.
TotK is the definition of work smarter, not harder
I can't do the dazzle fruit trick... I'm doing it with a 5x lynel bow and in slow-mo and it resets completelly after the second shot. Does anyone know why this happens? Is it patched already?
Rail tip.
Fuse a cart to a shield
This sounded so similar to programming tutorials I've seen. Then I put it together.
Amazing
1:52 my first play through I did this one with just the shield minecart. It takes a lot of jumping but it’s possible.
The thumbmail fucked my brain on a whole new level
I quite like this, it will help some speedrunners, I am sure.
6:47 press f to pay respects
I used the recal flying thing to climbe a giant wall in the depths and I felt like a genius
2:03, the Legend of Sonic the Hedgehog, Tears of the Chaos Emerald
*Crush 40 begins playing*
I hated that sand puzzle. I thought I was done, when the ball got launched. I'm glad I thought to use recall.
Im feeling called out by some of these tricks, because i used them in my first playtrough
Occam's Razor works in almost every shrine (problem-solving principle that recommends searching for explanations constructed with the smallest possible set of elements)
For courage to pluck, I just fused all the pieces into one giant Jenna piece
7:11 BURY THE LIGHT DEEP WITHIN CAST ASIDE THERES NO COMING HOME WE'RE BURNING CHAOS IN THE WAY DRIFTING IN THE OCEAN ALL ALONE
People seem to go into this with the false idea that whatever method they use to solve a puzzle is the "Wrong Way" to solve the puzzle, when the fact is you are to solve the puzzle in any way you can think of solving it. Such puzzles like these are built in a way that makes the player feel smart, there's a special name to this sort of puzzle building, where there is no one single "Correct" way of solving a particular puzzle, but there being multiple ways to solve a puzzle, it's just up to the player how they do it, even if it doesn't feel correct or feels like it was done in a way that cheats how the puzzle was setup.
4:15 I did the exact same thing. It was so satisfying 😂
i love the totk shrines cause its so easy to cheese them, much more fun than the sheikah ones imo
Dazzle me with your knowledge! Wow you did well!
