- I got there early so I could capture as many working as possible, I left after being there for three hours at 09.30 as I didn't want to repeat my filming to much.
You will see a lot of shunting going on in this video which I think is always interesting to watch.
Hope you enjoy this very long video, you may need to have a break and make a cuppa half way through.
I could listen to those 20's all day
Great sound I agree.
Great video
Thank you for watching PN112 UP FAST, much appreciated.
Early Morning visit there Mike !!
Nice to get some kind of movement from the Choppers even if it wasn’t with out shunting the wagons at Doveholes.
I do like a visit to this location 👍
Yes Its worth a visit every now and again Arthur. you have to be careful with the traffic. Cheers Mike.
now that was a great film, well done.
Thank you very much for watching Brian your comment is much appreciated.
Its strange when I worked at Shirebrook West depot you never thought you would see the demise of these cl 20 engines nice footage.
Oh yes you had a lots of them working that area when we had coal trains.
Cheers Tony for your comment.
Good morning’s activity captured well 👍
Thank you for saying that Graham, I was well pleased with what I filmed and edited.
Fantastic Mike. We'll worth the effort 👌 you had a great daythere. 👍
Cheers Pete for your comment, I will leave it to next year probably before I give it another go. Stay safe Mike.
Those shunt locos look well-loved
Well yes they are as they are persevered locos Jack.
Thanks for a great video Mike, and the traffic continues like this through the night as well.
I had many a trip with my retired brother on the "Northwich Hoppers" , with a pair of class 20s for quite a while but they suffered from tyre creep so all was changed to a pair of class 37s .The ICI company shunter always gave a banker out of Tunstead till we were underway up to great rocks tunnel, the sound of two locos at full power through there was fantastic 👏, 1 in 90 I think till we reached Peak Forest summit then the next climb wasn't till Altrincham Station exit all that way on tickover. Happy Days.Nice to see how it's busier even than the 1980s/90s 😊
Oh I wish I could have afforded a camcorder in them days, the sound must have been out of this would 558.
I did venture down toward Tunstead later on but I felt shit so I left the area at midday.
Thank you so much for your memories of them great days, I was always working in a factory and only seamed to get out on a Saturday or Sunday with my son trying to clear his locos.
Thanks again Mike.
@@antman09ful1 No worries Mike , I worked at Bae Systems Woodford , four children, nightshift , Electrical Tech , so not much money and time either
but my opportunities were spread over a few years
Any overtime and I had to do it for the brass but the whole of the men at Bx were good blokes so our kid would say "Hoppers Saturday,,? and if the family were doing other things, I'd be off with him .Tha one big dissapointment was getting the opportunity to go with him on the Tunstead banker, I'd not been on a type two before or since, it was 25244, idling nicely on a morning of deep frost
You've guessed it, the brakes were frozen on 🤔 the fitter came with his alcohol but they wouldn't budge so we were given a 47 for the job, dissapointing but very good locos . 25244 was still there when we'd finished 😊 can't win them all .Take care , Ian
Those 20's look in superb condition!
Well they don't do much.
What a place to film Mike. Great the old 20's doing their stuff.👌
I was pleased with getting there so early David, just wish my cold was so bad the next day.
Great work,thanks lad
Thanks Simon for taking a look.
I love this. Epic. Just been to see this place for the first time and was amazed by it all. Typed it in RUclips and here I am leaving a comment. Cheers bud
Well thank you for finding this video, and your comment matey which is very much appreciated.
Love visiting this place, albeit whenever I've been, its been damn cold and windy but there's always something going on to watch. The shunters there have certainly had a good array there of late, class 37's, class 56's and now a pair of class 20's....bet they love it.
Yes Steve you are right about the weather, even when its sunny its windy there, but when do they use the guest locos for shunting at night ?
Always interesting these kind of workings. The 20s sounded sweet and looked superb.
I was pleased they were still there Bryan, but I would have loved to have seen them earning there keep. Have a good weekend Mike.
Very good mate I remember you visiting here some time back. Thanks for sharing more excellent footage
Yes it was sunny but still windy, going early is good, not traffic on the roads and lots of working coming back into the area. ATB Mike.
An excellent visit you had here, Mike. Definitely worth the early start for the number of workings you caught. Top quality filming as usual, very enjoyable.
Thank you Kyle, yes a busy time to visit, and doing a early one no traffic on the roads. Cheers Mike.
Brilliant video Mike, lots of 66s, the 20s and 60 were great too! 👍
Thank you ENC, I did do more filming but I thought this was long enough for this video.
Shame them twenty's never did any shunting. Mike.
@@antman09ful1 No problem Mike, would have been good to see the 20s shunting but sill an enjoyable video!
Nice visit to Peak Forest
I was well pleased.
Went up there Saturday. Not very busy but did see the 20s and a couple of freights on the move.
Well seeing something was ok for you, thanks for watching.
An excellent presentation mate.Big cheers all round 👍👍
That was a nice long one for you Keith, thank for your comment. Mike.
Wonderful video Mike, looks like a great place to visit.
Yes at the right time Simon, cheers.
Loved this! The world at 5mph!!...Really enjoyable and vert good editing! Keep them coming!!!
I will do my best Fraser to keep you interested in my videos cheers.
What a great watch that was Mike on a wet Saturday afternoon👍🏼Nice busy day as well & good to see the 20’s in action too.Excellent stuff as always, cheers Dave
I think it was worth getting on the road at 04.15 Dave to capture these workings, yes it was good that the 20s moved twice but I want someone to tell me why they don't shunt any wagons around these days.
Brilliant video Mike, an interesting location usually out of sight of the public eye on the railways!
Yes it is Andrew, if you have the time its well worth a visit there, when the class 60s were the main locos working from there it was a great place to go on a Sunday to get photos of the nameplates.
There was about ten locos stabled there in them days on a Sunday. Cheers Mike.
Excellent video Mike, great to see how the stone quarries work. Like you I thought we might be in for a bit of a 20fest. Great film , you clearly put some thought into your positioning. Very well done🤓
Tony I just don't get why them class 20 are there, its possible they may do the shutting around at night, but did you notice the condensation on the widows. Cheers for your comment, Mike.
Nice video . I went to Peak forest about 5 years ago when DB cargo & Freightliner had the bulk of the work . I like the 20s very chopper sounding . 66763 was working hard by the signal box . I got 66125 doing working with old coal hoppers that had to stop next to the building on right by the bridge that was a struggle for the shed sand smoke & noise .
Pleased you enjoyed this video, just checked my records and I last went there on the 1st July 2021 in the afternoon.
Looking back I think a morning visit is slightly better, but any time is good to this good place, cheers for your comment. Mike.
What a cracking video Mike, enjoyed every minute of it. Last time i spent a day there it was all 20s and 37s so listening to that pair of choppers brought the memories flooding back.
Thanks for a great watch and enjoy the rest of the Bank Holyday weekend Mike.
All the best, Colin.
I'm pleased Colin you enjoyed this long video from me, I could have done it longer but I decided this was long enough.
I am getting great story's from guys like yourself who went there in the early days of 20s and 37s which must of been fantastic times.
In them day I just took my son to the depot in Buxton on a Saturday to get the numbers, but I did go to Peak Forest on Sunday mornings when the place was full of class 60s for photos of the nameplates which I was missing when I didn't go to Loughborough Works. Cheers Mike.
Great video Mike. I do love this spot. Its non stop action there. When I next speak to you I will explain the class 20 situation there 👍🏻
Right ok Ben, yes a great place to go to every few years, I did the best I could as I had a stinker of a cold that day. Speak soon Mike.
Fantastic video Mike 👍
I'm pleased I got there early Arnold, as I had a cold and I felt rough during the rest of the day.
@@antman09ful1 I remembered 'Manchester Planespotter' use to film peak forest
Morning Mike --really enjoying watching your video , your filming is really good , and you film from different places that some of the others don't use -- your right too about the class 20s -- they don't do much shunting at all and most of the time they end up being in the way of the train engine shunting their own trains ! --but still love them being there -- maybe just incase of a break down eh ! -- take are Jim
Thank you Jim for taking a look, and your comment, we will just have to put up with the sound of them 20s for now, cheers Mike.
Impressive view of 66763 putting the sand down as it struggles to get the heavy train on the move 🧐
They certainly have to work hard when pulling away, I got some great footage later on that day with a heavy load.
WOW, you must have been there at 6.30 Mike? Dedication! Great video though especially with the vintage 20s helping out! I've beeen a couple of times ,when passing ,but only on a Saturday with not much movement.
Yeah Phil I got there just after six had a cup of coffee and then got out and did some filming, but I didn't feel that good as I had the start of a bad cold coming,
But when I look bad it was all well with it, cheers Phil for your comment, ATB Mike.
What a fantastic 45 minutes that was Mike. Awesome shots and captures there! Glad you caught these! Nice 20s and Freightliner 66. Good to see 60066 there as well. Excellent detailing and camera work! You chose the rigbt day to go haha. Great stuff! Top class! No faults at all! Well done! Great work! Very nice indeed! Really enjoyed, thanks for sharing! Take care, have an awesome day and all the best! Jamie
Good of you to say all this in your comment Jamie, I did do some more filming but 45 minutes is long enough for a video I think. ATB Mike.
@@antman09ful1 Anytime Mike. Ah very nice, I'd say that it is a good length too, and the extras you can always put in the 'Footage in May I didn't share'. All the best, Jamie 🙂👍
Lovely to see some class 20s still in use on the mainline
Yes they are great I thing, thanks for watching.
Very good Mike, enjoyed that long video (but it was a beer halfway through for me, not a cuppa !!) Do the 20s actually do anything apart from move up and down the same bit of small track ? 😀
Yes I wasn't my self that day, but I did my best when it came to my filming.
See you for a beer later.
The class 20’s make you wish you had a time machine...
The best we can do is film things
If only we had digital media 50 years ago
Yes I get what you mean.
Why
@@Keithbarber this obviously wasn’t 50 years ago
@@Scaniam you are quite right, but class 20s were quite common on freights in the area 50 years ago that's what we are getting at
Interesting watch with all the moving around. Did they just start the 20s up cos they saw you were filming them 🙂
Yes a great visit for me, that’s it to 2024. 😅
I knew he was coming so couldn’t help myself to fire them up 🤣
Is there a viewing point near the tunnel as you head towards chinley?
Have you been to hindlow quarry to film?
I don't know of one by the tunnel, and I haven't been by Hindlow Quarry Mark.
Good video.
What is the nearest rail station to peak forest? Buxton?
Yes Buxton, then a bus Mark.
I'd say Dove Holes is probably closer. Great footage. Remember back in the mid 90s at Chapel school watching 20s, 31s, 37s, 47s and 60s going past
How often does stuff run there seen a few videos
Well Tom you need to decide what day and time to go by checking our bible app.
