B3313 Is The Most Unsettling Video Game Experience I've Ever Had

- I recently played a Super Mario 64 hack simply called "B3313". This hack is basically a fever dream version of Mario 64, filled to the brim with liminal spaces that make you feel extremely uncomfortable...it's INCREDIBLE!!
Check out this hack for yourself here: romhacking.com...
Big thanks to Chris for editing this video!

I've barely scratched the surface of B3313. I personally want to play and experience more...do you want to see more?
Yes please, I loved every second of this video!❤️
Hell yeah
Cuck gaming
Yes please! Also that toad Jumpscare was the perfect ending lol.
FIND THE CORE
DESTROY IT
Something now I've just realised: The hud changes as you play. That messed with me the first time I saw the healthbar change.
Awesome video!!!!
Aren’t u the guy that comments on fucking Fitmc’s and Salc1’s videos tf are u doing on a Mario 64 video 😂☠️☠️☠️
he comments on everything
This game is now just completely unsettling because your experience is much different than mine.
thats the best part of these exploration games with boatloads of content, sometimes it looks like people are playing entirely different games than eachother
Because every copy is personalized
the update i think actually makes it personalized thats why i think
This has to be one of the greatest creations humanity has ever made in terms of art and horror
@@dogyX3 I love this, but I don't think anything yet is able to beat MyHouse.wad
43:00 "The piano is still alive" Thank God at least something still makes sense in this game
bro lmfao, considering there is a straight up dead piano somewhere your comment is even funnier
@@chrisrlillo I have no idea why this comment made me suddenly so much more afraid of this hack.
It's bad enough when I swear the original piano gave me trust issues about pianos in games by scaring the controller out of my hands (yes, I threw my controller in the air out of fright)...
But knowing there's a dead piano somewhere is going to fuel my paranoia when I finally decide to play this.
Thank you, here's your key to your apartment in my brain, rent-free.
@@neoqwertyreminding you incase you forgot
@@neoqwerty Once I encountered a dead Eel. It wasn't gory or anything, but the fact that there's something out there that killed the monstrosity that is the Eel... I don't wanna meet this thing.
Who's gonna tell Dave that B3313 has 440 stars. I wonder.
No crap? Ugh I do need this in my life.
440 STARS!?? Is there a speedrun category I can watch? LMAO 😂
Will be unsettling once all stars have their own IDs
How does it have 440 stars?
This uses decomp so anything is possible with a bit of code.
For example the 8 star patch. Allowing people to collect 8 stars in all of the levels like sm64ds.
The fact we dont see 8 stars in a level is something we in the sm64 romhacking community refer to as sub-areas.
The reason Bowser sounds like a cat is the fact the original Super Mario 64 had some sort of animal stock sound for bowser
Yup, in-game it's slowed down but in prerelease footage which this hack pulls a lot of levels/ideas from it's played at its "normal" pitch and speed
It’s the same “cheetah” sound used in the first Turok for ambient sound as well.
Long time ago, maybe even 20 years or so, I had an unsettling dream about being lost in an endless Mario 64 castle. I was playing the game, but I was confused because I knew it wasn't normal and that I may have found some sort of debug room or something. But it was never ending, and every now and then I still think back to that dream. One of the only dreams I even remember. I remember long hallways, chainchomps not hooked onto anything, levels that don't exist in the real game, but the one thing that I remember fondly was an aquarium tank with Peach's castle inside. Which was the same one at 50:46
Man don’t do this to me, this game is already making me shit myself, don’t tell me it’s actually influenced by peoples thoughts
@@eesedesesesrdtsuperjoshuab7907this game mentally messes with me too, glad to know I’m not the only one. Like multi realities or something
@@eesedesesesrdtsuperjoshuab7907 don't worry this is a fake comment
I remember having multiple dreams of the uppermost floors being exposed to outside and expansive. This game really sparked something in my imagination.
@@eesedesesesrdtsuperjoshuab7907I mean with a game THIS packed with content, there’s bound to be some parallels to peoples lives
If this was actually Mario 64, I feel like it may have ended 3D games before they started. Possibly all of civilization too.
I am in awe at how well the level design in this hack manages to replicate something that my brain would make up in a dream.
I love how the game told Dave "you died after getting all the silver stars? You know what, you don't get to play this level again"
Jokes aside, the AI would do that for real :v
It's because you can only enter that level from one version of the lobby and he was actually in a different one
This game really encapsulates the feeling of "I'M BACK IN THE FUCKING BUILDING AGAIN!?!?"
"all around me are familiar eggmans"
I miss my wife tails
thank you so much-a for' playing my hack, i guess? cheers man, sorry for the heart attack with the bup xd
Bup
every time I watch someone play this game I see at least 10 rooms in the castle I've never seen before
Do you mean this hack? Because this is not the original Mario 64 that you're familiar with.
@@HarmonicWave It's still a game
@@HarmonicWavelol
This hack feels like if Nintendo released Mario 64 Maker. And someone attempted to make a world in which many creators collab
When it wants to, B3313 can be a horror game. The Amalgam jumpscare is one example. But sometimes, the scary moments are where you least expect them to be.
Amalgam? Are you referring to the relesio beast?
@@CoolMaster-gr3bp i am referring to the one at the end of this video
@@Dullsonic3 Yupp, that is a releasio model... That entire hack looks like that, it is an experience...
Gotta say, this pretty much represents how I felt playing the original Mario 64 as a child, understanding 0, going random places 100 😂😂 This is like the upgraded version for adults lol minus the jumpscares ofc
I play prototypes semi-frequently and I wanted to comment and say that this hack gets the feeling of a prototype spot on. especially if its sufficiently early. Sometimes that feeling of exploration and that eeriness of knowing where you are and yet not knowing at the same time, can be a driving factor. things are so different, yet so similar.
I love that feeling :)
Pretty effective jump scare, after 75 minutes of expecting one but not getting any.
This romhack is expert at keeping you on edge, the game only has like 3 moments that I would consider "jumpscares" or even outright "scary", but even still whenever I'm running through a dark or creepy open area I keep expecting something to start chasing me or even just a random screamer lol
Edit: Plus it turns out it's not even one of the 3 I was thinking of, lol
would you consider that toad moment one of those 3 moments? made my blood run cold lol @@ExaltedUriel
@@AmandaTheStampede I would now, I just didn't know it existed before this video lol
When I got it i found the releasio monster more funny than scary. Having said that I'm glad I did not meet it another time.
(Spoiler alert: there are two of them in the hack, too)
@@Eichro Calling it the "Releasio monster" is funny as fuck though, lmao
1:15:30 The moment of betrayal- there had been no jump scares previously... I'm so mad, dude...
I would love to see a live reaction of Dave getting sent the map / flowchart for navigating this map. It's INTENSE.
Thanks for keeping me up at night for the next 8 years.

This is one of the craziest things I've ever seen be done with Mario 64, I recently played this myself and it was one of the strangest experiences I've ever had with a video game, but I think it's one that every Mario 64 fan should try at least once.
Also...jumpscare warning at 1:15:25
@j.w.7149 bro his brain was completely frazzled, and that melted it 😂
@j.w.7149it is suppossed to be
you've been bupscared
This is what a mean parent swaps out the real mario 64 for if they think there kid is playing it too much.
I am very into liminal spaces, the concept is amazing! I want to see more things like this!
A video longer than Thomandy's troll level video? Can't wait to watch this in one sitting 🤘🏆
"How many remixes of Inside the Castle Walls can we fit into one romhack?"
"...Yes."
It was an amazing experience, I want to see part 2
Same, this is absolutely insane
very true sunny from omori
@@CRT_YTit seems he enjoyed blackspace 1 and 2 after all, honestly with allt he confusing entrances and secrets in blackspace 2 its similar to b3313
*Dave gets 10 stars, sees new area, falls off edge*
"Nothing to see here."
its cool how maze like this rom hack feels there's so many different stages and enemies you never know what your gonna find next and the fact that your not always dropped off in the same place after a level also contributes to that
The fact that some instruments change completely, get removed or swap, gives the feeling of familiarity ( if thats a word ).
I love the deal with the music. The Particle Test Level made me thank of the Basalt Delta in The Nether.
This thing hit on all cylinders. The mod is very well made. Creative, music was great. Someone really understands composing. The tech ability to be able to code that rom hack. So much talent went into this rom hack
Never knew DGR was into liminal stuff, that's cool :DD It's _really_ hard to actually describe this romhack in a way that makes it justice, it's just,,, way too much, in a good sense of course. It's so big, always so slightly unnerving, like if it was always hiding something just right out of your sight.
EDIT: This is definitely my favorite DGR video now, and to think this is like 1% of B3313 as a whole >w
The first time i played this rom hack, like, several months ago, when the latest version was 0.7
Well, i didn't understand how liminal it was, so, i tended to bit dizzy at some points seeing how big this castle was
What I enjoy about this game is not the spooky stuff but the dream like vibe of having corridors leading to places that shouldn't be there, new levels that don't exist and a soundtrack that is pretty damn good.
Cool to see DGR playing more horror
“Horror”
“Horror”
"Horror"
"Horror"
From what I've read, the initial beta levels are rather faithful recreations of the actual betas, at least the best that the devs could get. even the text is translated from the Japanese equivalent on the available beta footage.
Of course, the hack gets... creative real fast.
Why is half of this so cool and relaxing while the other half is “scary”
I freaked out when you turned around and saw that chain chomp too😅 edit: 47:38
43:07 ok, this right here. I kid you not, like, at. all. I saw this EXACT level in a dream. Everything from the progression, to the colors, to the patterns, to the way the rooms connect. It's the exact level I dreamed of years ago. I havent finished watching but if my impression is correct and this is a hack meant to, idk, replicate mario 64 levels from abstract places, then, did other people dream of this level? is this like, a thing? I am amazed but also don't really know what to think of it, this is crazy...
I'm pretty sure that's a test level in the real game files
It’s a test level from the og game’s pre release footage
I loved the shout out to "several people" behind the creative dev of this hack for your enjoyment. Great job DGR
After how many times it pops up, "THIS CASTLE IS EXCLUSIVE TO THE SHOW" gives me the same vibes as "And here we are!" from Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
This was scary but so intriguing at the same time. It's like a dream but it has such creative level designs and ideas. This was incredibly amazing!
This totally is something one's mind would dream up... I have had dreams about playing a "cursed" version of Mario Kart before, and it feels kinda like this, mixed with that super creepy "unused character" anti-piracy thing from Mario Kart Wii. The weirdest part about that dream is that I almost expect to actually come across a secret Mario Kart track that looks like that dream--because it felt so real.
Wasn’t sure if this was supposed be horror or not but in the beginning it didn’t seem like it first time I got chills was when Dave said “I never collected that star…” when there was an outline of a star. Now I love when the horror comes out but I love the confusion and fear of not knowing if this uncanniness is just because the game is unfinished, just not knowing.
We demand a part 2! This was amazing, Dave! Loved seeing such an innovative and fun hack being showcased.
The original design for king koopa was supposed to look like a mix of a lion and turtle, that’s why he has the mane and sharp teeth while the normal turtles look different
This reminds me of these SM64 dreams I used to have as a kid
Yes! omg I was thinking the same, I had a whole world in my head as a kid of Mario 64 and many games. They were recurrent many of them.
24:24 so ODD. As someone who grew up with a Playstation, that painting reminds me of something out of Classic ‘Spyro the Dragon’, but you enter and the level itself feels like ‘Banjo-Kazooie’…yet your SUPPOSED to be playing ‘Mario 64’. This is TRULY a unique experience! So much FUN! 😅
I didn’t know it was possible for a game to have too much content until this hack. I checked out a map of this hacks overworld, and let’s just say it’s something else…
I will say, I'm 150 stars deep into this romhack, and Dave STILL finds rooms I've never seen before. This romhack really does blend a sense of unease with nostalgia, like a strange dream. I hope he revisits this again. There's so much more that Dave's gotta find
This was great, thanks for the upload Dave!!
If you were stuck in The Stanley Parable, at least you'd have a friend to keep you company through the weirdness. If you were stuck in B33I3, you'd pretty much be alone. That's what makes this hack so terrifying, is the lack of company and the lack of answers.
19:07 lol, I thought you were going to say, "But I don't actually have feelings."
47:14 that chain chomp picture 😂
as soon as i saw you enter 1:11:43 i remembered i saw a quite similar room in one of my dreams so i tried to sketch it
Some of this was truly terrifying.
Every time I play this I discover something new, I'd love to watch another video on it!
This is basically a «double, ultra personalized mario 64 copy» simulator
This is absolutely insane hahaha I was up until 4 am last night watching this because I was so mesmerized I couldn’t stop watching. I swear I’ve had dreams about SM64 and a couple of these rooms have appeared in my dreams.
I'd love to see DGR play horror games
He just did
I have this downloaded but every time I play it I start to feel unbearably uncomfortable. It gives me this sense of creeping dread and a feeling like something horrible is approaching the longer I play.
Dude it's literally just a super mario game, what the fuck are you even talking about
I love this reaction. It seems to be the most authentic. I think other reacters did research on this but said they didn't.
Reactors are liar and thief
> Enters a level
> Falls into a bottomless pit 5 seconds later
> "this is so crazy"
1:28 YOOOOO IT'S THE MEL BLANC VERSION! Bad timing with the Martinet situation but it IS a cool relic of the past
I think Bowser's in-game sfx in the final release are altered wildcat sound fx yeah
the original song for that one snow world where DGR was flying around that one star for a while goes so hard is that from something?
yo same for the chain chomp level. oh ok that's from yoshi's island that makes sense with the vibes
the mirror room you found was different, it didn't have a jolly roger painting
I love whenever something unsettling happens you can just see the traumatized thousand yard, lead poisoning stare that Dave gets lmfao
i know it's supposed to be unsettling but it feels, comfy? like i'm home somehow
That's the crazy thing about this mod. They've done it so well
that's how i feel about liminal spaces too
Some areas, specially Vanish cap in the plexus or Royal lobby feels soo calm, and that is weird because of the nature of this hack.
*First 10mins of this playthrough*
I can't do that
I can't do thaaaat
I can't dooo thaaaaat
Oh wait, I can do that
Alright, you know that feeling when you play a game so much that you play it in your dreams too, yet the longer you play, the more different it is? THIS GAME EMULATES THAT PERFECTLY. 😱
this game makes me so damn uncomfortable because when i learned about it shortly after that i got incredibly sick for a week and the game always reminds me of that
34:01 that's actually there as a sort of reference to the extra level in the castle courtyard that is in that exact spot in SM64DS, thought it was neat
(also other versions of the courtyard in this game do have that level)
I saw one play through that froze me in my tracks. There was a hallway with a bunch of key doors on either side. When I was a kid, that was one of the many nightmares this game gave me. Crazy to see it in a playthrough
I played this for 6+ hours and didn't see a lot of the stuff DGR found, I would have remembered the giant full black square where a painting should be. Or the hallway with a fakeout star followed by the fully dark room. Or the BUP jumpscare at the end of the video. Or a couple other rooms he went in.
I played this IWHOUTH KNOW IT WAS A TERROR GAME, but it has MANY, MANY MANY MORE than what you covered, hope to see more!
Trying to 100% this sounds like a nightmare
It really is, since so many levels can be hard to find, just plain hard, and a lot of stars share IDs (meaning if you got a star in one level, it might also be assigned to be a different star in a totally different level).
It was even MORE of a nightmare pre-v0.9 because every time you got a Star, you wouldn't just leave the painting, you'd get kicked back to the FOYER. So a lot of backtracking just to get the rest of the stars in the level lol
I'm going to stop watching this video for now because it's late at night and this might make me stay up all night if I watch for too long
I've played this hack for multiple hours and watched many hours of streamer vods on this rom hack and yet some of the levels you have went to I have never come across. If only this hack could be ported to the PC decomp version so we could load RTX or even online multiplayer on it. The team could do some special events in-game if you have 2 players in the same game (since it would fit the very early stages of Mario 64). Context: Miamoto had a program running on his PC during development were both Mario and Luigi were running around.
EDIT: I think the red stars are the important ones you need to grab in order to unlock Mario's moveset. They must also do something else when you already completed the moveset. I thought I should mention that in some cases the stuff you unlock with the red stars could be in a random order. When I defeated the first bowser one time I got the long jump. On another save (running a different version of the hack) I skipped all of the levels and went straight to the bowser fight and I didn't end up getting the long jump until like star 45 or 50.
EDIT 2: There are apparently certain stars and events that can only happen during night time and some that can only happen during the day. And yes, I mean real life time not in game time. Oh if you return to this hack in the future, try ground pounding the middle of all the "sun?" rugs.
I know that the sound effects are looney toons stock ones, but I just think Mario sounds like Michael Jackson
I agree
Munchers and Piranha plants are indeed related, and very much in the same family. Look it up on the wiki or just ask the devs behind the entire series yourself.
Imagine putting this on a real N64 cartridge, putting a normal Super Mario 64 sticker on it and selling it at something like a garage sale or a flea market to an unsuspecting person 😂
What an absolute head trip of a mod. Truly psychedelic experience.
I really should have seen that last jumpscare coming, but I didn't
24:39 "I haven't seen a Wiggler that tiny..." ...since your old college days?
Those all black rooms with the flashing words absolutely turned my blood to ice. 😬🥶💀
16:25 Literally how 90% of N64 creepypastas start lmao
It feels like when I was playing Spyro 3 and didn't know about pirate copies.
So this is basically Super Mario 64: LSD Dream Emulator Edition? I love it. I love games where exploring a vast, ideally unrealistic world is the whole point, this is beautiful. I wish I could play ROM hacks.
Dang this looks like so much care and effort was put into it. The creepypasta writing is a bit weak but everything else is super interesting.
15:36 The paintings are different
15:38 Was that painting of Bowser... before?
15:39 THAT painting wasn't of Bowser!
Whenever I’ve played it, the sign next to Yoshi says something different , It says some thing about not going in the cave on the left unless you want to see your deepest fears unfold or something like that
Before anyone asks, this game will NOT work on real hardware even with RAM expansion
This SM64 ROM Hack is so flipping amazing
It has some real LSD: The Dream Emulator vibes
Toad addressing Mario as "PLUMBER" is my favorite part
I want you to release a full vod of this crazy hack.
I have a physical reaction each time the new/altered music starts playing.
Marios long jump sounds like the guy from wind waker that teaches you the song of passing
I'm a new subscriber.
And I know this is an old.The video that popped on my feet. But Bowser originally had a cougar sound that was slowed down to get his voice that we know in the game, so yes.Bowser is technically a cougar
@DGR: The reason why it show you already got the power-star when you did not, you where playing the non-finish version, the finish version that is already available fix that issue. And in the non-finish version they are jump scared that crash the game, the finish version the jump scared are fix to make mario die instead of crashing, to avoid damage to someone computer or Laptop. Also red power star will give you back one of the missing move, and the more red power star, the more of your missing move return, and even some new one not in the real Super Mario 64. The finish version is Called Super mario 64 B3313 unabandon version, the version you are playing was close to be finish, the version you where playing in Super mario 64 B3313 abandon version.
Even just watching, this game instills a particular feeling in me.
I have numerous _consistent_ dreams I've had over the years of fake versions of games I've been playing for years. Some of the standout reoccurring locations I remember are simply incorrect dream versions of Zelda Games or Star Fox Adventures to name a few.
This game in particular reminds me of when I play a game too much before bed and dream about it all night. This has a very similar uncanny vibe to LSD Dream Emulator. It gives that perfect frustrating feeling I always remember having in dreams when I'm lost.
Seeing Dave get jumpscared by a chuckya toad gives me life
