Yeah, so do I. Will Buxton did a great job interviewing folks with his 'Paddock Pass' series and I will be happy to see him doing this in the future, but the amount of meticulousness Ted brings is unsurpassed. I look forward to watching Ted's Notebook from the racetrack soon!!
There’s something very serene, in these restricted times, about watching Ted talking about F1 in a London park. I’ve written it before but I’ll do it again - WTF were the buffoons in SkyF1 management thinking last year by denying F1 fans regular episodes of Ted’s Notebook. It makes no sense whatsoever.
Ted and Martin Brundle... are the pillars of Sky's coverage.. I was watching old F1 races recently and it's always been, Ted, Martin, James A, + Coulthard.. Ted is a legend..
@@GethsemanesYour hateful demeanor is the problem with F1 fans. V10's are not coming back, Murray Walker isn't either. More forward with the times and enjoy F1 for what it is. If you can't do that, then watch golf.
Because he does his homework (more than anyone else) and always keeps his ear to the ground so he knows everything that’s going on and presents it In a way non F1 fans can understand
Having truly been loving this format. Impressed by Ted’s combination of Ted’s presence of mind, one-take soliloquies and selfie stick arm strength! Also, quite surprised with the audio quality. Bravo, Ted ad Sky! Please keep them coming.
This should continue to be a mid week programme on sky F1 when we get out of lock down and be called Ted's F1 walk in the park notebook love the information you give us Ted stay safe and to your family stay safe see live on the TV soon
I haven't been to London for 40 years and this video made me long for it almost to tears. I vow: if I survive this, I will go to London, walk those streets and thank God.
Ted you should do more of these news talks on RUclips outside of F1 circuits walking around a local park where ever you are in the world. Or set up your own channel if they won’t let you do it here
I checked into a B&B in London a few years ago and told the proprietor that my son and I were going to the F1 race that weekend. He says he knows someone that reports on F1. I wondered to myself if it's my man crush Ted Kravitz, but didn't ask. A couple of days later I asked him who it was, and it was Ted! They were old collegemates! So close to greatness...
The original 1976 'C'était un rendez-vous ' (watch on youtube) of a Ferrari 275 GTB racing through Paris, was shot from director Claude Lelouch Mercedes W116 450SEL 6.9, with the sound of Lelouch's own 275 GTB added. It could have been the first use of a front bumper gyro camera mount? I am glad SKY allows videos to stay on youtube USA during the Covid 19 period. Been a F1 fan since my father took me to the old Nürburgring when I was still in short pants. Please keep up the good work Ted Kravitz Btw, in the new Monaco video, 240 Kmh equal 150 mph, and there was no Mercedes C-class in 1976
I LOL when mercedes personnel talk down about their car, in the case of DAS the tire temperature is just 1 aspect of the advantages, there's also str8 line speed gain, less drag, and less scrubbing which will increase tire life.
You'll have to rewind conversations with Kate to work out why she took a chunk out of your head. 🤔. There will be a reason.... Good micing BTW. No wind tonight I hear.
Question i have regarding the budget cap. Say a new team comes in and they decide they want to build a wind tunnel - how is the expansion of assets covered?
I am definitely not an authority but I imagine the budget cap is on (roughly speaking) operating expenses, i.e. money you need to stay in the sport. If a new team comes, it requires multiple years of planning and there will definitely be a time between a contract being signed and the team starts competing. I imagine capital expenses made during this timespan will not be counted towards the operating expense cap. The good thing about this budget cap is that it lowers the bar to entry so may well know this from practice soon enough :)
Retro series: yes to v10s or v12s, yes to H pattern shifting, yes to hard skinny high slip angle tyres. Not sure how it would make money, probs only work as an event race
DAS isn't only for warming tyres though. It can reduce tyre wear on the straights too, so it's not entirely useless if those particular circuits are not on the calendar.
V12 and has to be H pattern, NO crash box! bring back old school and the true excitement of F1! Awesome stuff Ted loving these weekly instalments, making lockdown bearable.
I love these kind of notebooks. You should do them on the weekends there isn't a race on. ((obviously not this year before any smartarse comments)) haha.
I disagree with the punishment for winning ethos, it should be more of a helping had ethos to those that came further down the grid, so Mercedes can keep the standard 60 hours, but everyone else gets an added hour (or whatever) ever step back on the grid you take.
27:15 That is the possible loophole in the new regulation. Since Racing Point copies from Mercedes anyway, they could potentially give their wind tunnel time to Mercedes, giving Mercedes almost double the time and whatever Mercedes comes up with is shared between the teams. RedBull could do the same with Alpha Tauri, and Ferrari can do same with Alfa Romeo. Okay never mind, no real advantage at the end if all the big teams copy each other.
In terms of wind tunnel testing I don’t think the champs should have reduced time in there, I think for champs it should be at 60 and last place gets a higher amount, and the standard time in wind tunnel for all teams should be reduced each year, like 60 this year to 50 next year, 45 the next and so on..
Retro Specs NA 3.5L Engines of any layout NO engine covers... everybody gets to see the engine H-Pattern 5 speed gear box No diffuser, small front wing, small rear wing Tires full tread Steel brakes metal suspension arms no carbon fiber.
H pattern is an old school manual gearbox with clutch, so 1st is top left on the H 2nd bottom left 3rd top middle 4th bottom middle (5th top right 6th bottom right on a six speed box)
Great video, Ted. But I hate the idea of "reverse grid" style, "handicap the best" interference. Yes, don't pay Ferrari extra money for no good reason; yes, limit the budgets to sustainable levels. But totally random is dull. Discriminatory aero time is silly. The best should win (not the luckiest).
Like the avoiding of people coming the other way. In supermarket queues people are 3-4m apart front-to-back, but then some idiots decide to walk back along the queue only inches apart.
How DAS can be considered a steering system is beyond me. It doesn't influence the steering of the car, but in fact when activated, alters the car's front suspension geometry. That is suspension all day long. It changes the suspension settings while the car is moving on the track, breaks parc femme rules. Period.
Thanks I really enjoy this notebook :) makes F1 much interesting... All of us are yearning for the engines to start.... The retro GP would great.. drivers should be over 40.
The following is the Cliffnotes version of this 35 minute "Yakathon". Two constructors, 4 drivers and the rest of the field, 20+ seconds behind. This sums up the 2020 F1 "Championship". Liberty Media, ZERO BALLS!!!
Toto as Aston Martin shareholder, AMG boss to be their new CEO...Is Daimler slowly buying them?Wrt the handicap...is that really relevant? It seems the teams are increasingly relying on CFD and less on wind tunnels.
Isn't life strange as part of Horizon 4 computer game this high-speed race towards the cathedral in Paris I here about for the first time, 15 minutes later Teds talking about it on the vlog.
hammer time has been in Brackley lingo a long time tbh. Way before that stuff. Look at the Barcelona 2009 recap with Jock Clear on the radio to Rubens.
How will teams be able to afford to pay for more time in the wind tunnel if there is a budget cap? Will they have to cut back somewhere else or are wind tunnels dirt cheap to run these days?
What would we do without you Ted! Brilliant stuff
I miss ted's notebook from race weekend so much. this makes up for some of it.

DAS is not for warmup of tyres! it is for changing understeer for corners and changing drag in the straights by varying front wheel geometry.
