    I have an 05 crf250r and engine has approximately 150 hours, but valve clearance still in spec and cylinder and piston are perfect and look virtually new.
    I checked the small end of rod and it looks good… and no discernible vertical play in the lower rod bearing.
    Question… should I replace crankshaft anyway based on hours even if still seems in spec? I have heard that the lower end rod bearing is the weak link, and am willing to put in new crankshaft, if it should be done.
    Great video!!! Gratitude!
    Martin

    • @CoteMotorcycles
      @CoteMotorcycles  3 месяца назад +1

      If you’re racing or running dunes you might want to replace it. If you’re not replacing the piston / rings then no way should you be doing a crank. I’ve seen lots of bikes only change oil for 10 years and they’re fine. If you don’t change oil lots with good oil, you’ll have crank issues. Otherwise, let it ride.

      I am a vet rider and just ride my own mx track on my farm and trails at this point. Also a nut about keeping a close eye on oil level, run great oil, and service often.
      I was shocked to see that everything is in spec and looks like the engine is still in break-in mode!😂

    Hello, how much worry should a bit of play in the oil pump shaft cause?

    • @CoteMotorcycles
      @CoteMotorcycles  2 года назад

      In and out play isn’t a big deal. Excessive horizontal play isn’t good. That being said, I’ve never had to replace oil pump components on a running bike. If you’ve had an engine failure that might have ran debris through the pump, then replace all of the pump components.

    • @jokerflingo
      @jokerflingo 2 года назад

      @@CoteMotorcycles we only noticed the play due to new outer case being installed due damage to the old one, bike was never run without oil or had debris in the case, it has done over 300 hours though and has sone movement on the shaft horizontally/vertically though, are those little 9mm bearings not the best design for the purpose/load on them?

      Nobody here telling you what to do with your life! Haha
      Need to be super careful with the aluminum case threads and part clearances; which is why I’d recommend a torque wrench over an impact. Tearing it apart goes way quicker with air tools; way easier to mess something up though.

      You shouldn't be able to feel any vertical play in the rod big end. Horizontal play in the bearings is normal until you get the main drive gear bolted on. That should hold the crank in place against the bearing. Hopefully that's what you're referring to!

    • @scallie6462
      @scallie6462 6 лет назад

      zen pro they would EA h have a SPECIFIC torque value which is stated in a shop manual which you can easily pick up for 20 bucks off amazon. If your contemplating the torque range you need I think you ought buy a manual because unlike your axle and brake caliper bolts etc, inside your engine needs to be RIGHT, and properly torqued.. It's not worth a stupid mistake.

    A Honda is known to drop rods or balancer shafts why not replace all bearings it makes no sense to useold ones

    • @CoteMotorcycles
      @CoteMotorcycles  3 года назад

      I've rebuilt hundreds of these and only a few had bad trans / balancer bearings from water ingestion. Crank bearings should be changed every time the crank is replaced but the trans bearings are fine to reuse if they feel smooth and there hasn't been any water contamination.
      If you want to replace all the bearings every time you're in there, that's an excellent way to ensure you don't have any problems on the trail. It's just too expensive and time consuming for me to bother with it, considering I've never run into problems reusing them. Most customers of mine want to spend the least money on rebuilds as they can. Frequent oil changes with good oil will make sure those bearings last longer than the rest of the bike.
