I just did a bearing replacement in my M80 diff in my VY SS Commodore 10 years ago & I knew that it was going to whine after I replaced the bearings because once the gears start humming that's it, they will need relapping or replacing. In my case I was just off broke when I replaced the bearings so I reused the gears & the diff whines at 60 km/h although it's quiet at every other speed, now my goal is to convert a single spinner 3.07:1 M80 diff which is from a VZ Commodore to a 3.91:1 diff ratio & Limited slip diff centre by Christmas. I heated the aluminium side bearing cone housings up with propane then I tapped them on a piece of wood until the races fell out,I froze the new ones in the freezer &; heated the housings up with a propane torch then I just dropped them into the housings since the aluminium expanded & the bearing races or cones contracted. I am going to fit a new or reconditioned M80 Limited slip diff centre & new gears into the diff housing, reset the backlash & check the tooth contact pattern. I figured out that the easiest way to remove the diff is to drop the rear K frame down a little bit then I am planning to buy an 1/2" drive electric ratchet to undo the bolts from the passenger side rear of the differential assembly because the charcoal canister gets in the way on the drivers side rear of the car !
Hey mate was that a 3 jaw pilot bearing puller you were using on those races/bearings ?..Great work by the way bud, I'm going to do my m80 diff and fit the full spool cheers mate 👍
