She was great in all of her movies, but this one is the absolute best she has done, because she got to do her own acting without someone telling her what to do, and she did a marvelous fantastic job. They had to use four wraths to get through the river scenes. And there were not any body doubles. They, all three, Marilyn, Robert and Little ten year old Tommy W. And, I can say that she was not appreciated or respected like she should have been. They abused her. She is absolutely beautiful after they Comericialized her, but I think that she was absolutely beautiful before, when she was innocent 😇. River of No Return was grossly underrated. This was a WONDERFUL production. From the opening scene, background music, everything about this movie. I loved it the first time I saw it and will never grow tired of watching this movie.

i grew up listening to this song thanks to my father who'd play his tape every morning and this song captivated me. I didn't know it was Marilyn who sang this til i decided to download it on my phone.
It is as if some painful occurrence in her own life gave her the pathos and genuine emotion of a lost love into this song. Stunningly and achingly beautiful woman. Thank goodness there have been no other like her. A rare and delicate butterfly gone too soon! She will be forever beautiful and immortalized on film. Thank you for posting this!

A couple years ago, I was in Canada along the Bow River where some of the movie was filmed. I had this song in mind as I walked along the banks of that beautiful river.

There is only ONE Marilyn Monroe. I did not know she was a singer as well. Tragic she died so young , and very tragic she could not find true love to have true happiness. She was the victim of her childhood /circumstances. GOD bless her. Rest in peace Marilyn. A wonderful example of early stereophonic sound recording. (Listen with headphones). You can almost reach out and touch the background vocalists. This was recorded I believe in the fall of 1953. RCA began recording classical tracks in stereo around February 1954 with Decca, Columbia, Mercury and others following suit in the spring and into 1955. Pop stereo recording began in earnest with some labels in 1956 with RCA doing so by early 57.

She was the most beautiful thing that ever existed. And I say "thing" not to be objectifying, but that no object or thing in nature compares, either. I want to cry thinking what a sad life she had and how she was kind of abandoned by her parents, in one way or another. My God, who wouldn't want to say "that's my daughter up there!!" It's almost as if no one could be endowed with that distinction.

I like how she throws her high heeled shoes when leaving as she understood with the life she was going to have along her new man the shoes would not be of any use to her. It makes me think when we change life or work there are things we must leave behind as they are no good any longer. They might have been good but shall no longer be of use to us.

When Marilyn Monroe starts to walk into the saloon, then pauses for a moment, and looks back at Mitchum and his son with longing, it is one of the best moments in the film. Truly heartbreaking... Hollywood could take a lesson.

Nice song and so deep really as life is the river of no return. We can never go back to someone or something we left behind and if we try we find people and things have changed and are not as we remember them. So we must go ahead forward as there is no return really. Sometimes I have wished to be young again but of course that is not possible. I have thought what I could have done had I had the wisdom I have now. But as they say youth is wasted on the young and there is no way to retrieve it. So instead of lamenting what we lost move ahead and do the best we can with the knowledge we have now that we did not have then.
I wish if she wear more polite dress, to hide the beauty that God give to her from evil eyes...
