Cigarettes, especially filtered kind, left on the indentations in some ashtrays, more often the ones made of glass, will burn down. That will shift the balance of the still burning portion to where it falls to the surface below. My father was a lifetime smoker and ruined many of my mother's table cloths in the 1950s. You made the magic happen again, Trena. The table turned out beautifully. I can imagine how proud your father must be of your artistic ability. We do enjoy watching you make the old, tired pieces look amazing. Thank you for sharing, and thank Shopdog for the high approval rating. Love, Dave & Amy in soggy North Carolina.
Wow, Trena. Just WOW! I think I actually gulped when you started "digging" holes in the wood. An astounding transformation. I'm sure Shop Dog approved.
Really satisfying to see a piece get all cleaned up and restored. It is now a much more welcoming place to have Sunday morning pancakes! I really enjoyed the property views as well! You've got a real pretty place Trena. :)
What Great pictures of the area around your home and Garden ,I'll bet a lot of card games was played on that table, always educational ,and entertaining watching you work your Magic on these neglected pieces ,Thank you for sharing
Yet again a fantastic finish, bet your also a brilliant painter and I'm not talking about walls There is a saying by Vincent Van Gough that I believe encompasses what you do. 'Your profession is not what brings home your weekly paycheck, your profession is what you're put here on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.' 👍
Thanks for the veg patch tour. I really struggle to cut out damaged chunks of wood like those burns. I'm too scared I can never make a big repair blend in. Obviously, you have the great skills to do that. A fantastic result as always Trena. Cheers!
I love your beautiful garden! My precious daughter in law dreams of having a garden like that! I sure hope her dream comes true one day. Your property just seems so peaceful. A place to not only restore furniture, but to restore one’s soul. When my son was just a kid, I’d give him a gummy bear vitamin every morning, when we moved, the dining table got flipped and there was at least 70 gummy bear vitamins in the tracks of our table. Ummmm.
Oak is my favorite wood. Strong so it holds up to dings. I prefer 1/4 sawn but for everyday use you can't beat oak. You saved another lost cause. You work wonders Jenna.
Cringing watching you cut out the burn marks but your surgical skills prevail to make this ugly duckling into a swan. Very nice Trena! Thank you for posting!.....Tony
Trena do you have magical hands Thank you this is really good advice Sometimes I still struggling with repair of furniture But thank you Trena Or can I say miss wood magic
Amazing the huge variety of problems you have to solve in refinishing. Obviously you were a good student learning from your dad and now you have your own several years of experience to draw on to revive some very sad looking pieces. Such a pleasure to watch you work your magic! I feel like you are one of my girls. 🥰
Those cigarette burns were a real test of talent. I might have guessed veneer patches would cover them. Your repairs definitely concealed the damage much better. Thanks for sharing your tricks of the trade.
You are a magician. I can only imagine the skill it takes to make those cigarette burns fade away. After that make them a invisible part of the table. Great work as always Trena!
I am very, very, very glad you have this channel to share this with us!!! I would not have accepted the job should it have knocked on my door!! I would have told them that when they allowed smoking materials to ruin the table top, you decided it was not worth preserving, therefore it is not now worth my restoring!! You did an amazing job!! Congratulations!! I am extremely glad you recorded it for us to see!! THANK YOU!!!
It may have been ‘acquired’ in that condition. My parents were both smokers and would often light a cigarette and leave it in the ashtray. They could easily fall out and continue to burn where they lay. But nowadays cigarettes are so extremely expensive (well they are here in Australia) that a smoker would never put one down and walk away from it. It stays in their hand till it’s gone! The Australian government started a very strong anti smoking campaign about 40 years ago now and it is working, but still far too many people take up the highly addicted habit. And with the cost of them they are a commodity that is like gold and worth stealing to get. So crime has risen related to cigarette theft.
Absolutely beautiful! When I saw the piece in its original condition, it reminded me of my mother’s table, and I could smell it. Your work made it so pretty I could understand why people buy oak tables! Thanks for the video!
Well done! My father used to prepare the wax to plug those holes. He even prepared the color of the wax adding colored earth/sand that he bought at the varnish store. We had a wooden stick with which we took the wax and applied it to the hole.
Realy?? Cutting out the wood??? whaaaa i was so surprised, but the result was amazing. Great work again and a plesure to watch u fix it like that. Tnx and keep on rolling lady
That table turned out beautifully -- reminds me of the "golden oak" furniture from the late 1970s and 1980s that was all the rage when we first got married. We don't have much any more, as our tastes gravitated towards maple, cherry, and walnut, but seeing it always brings back fond memories.
Just awesome, once again. So lovely to see your smiling face, and hoping you are doing well. Praying God's hedge of protection to surround you and your family.
It does look very good. That looks just like my kitchen table. I have a solid oak table. When I was shopping for a table I wanted solid oak. Every furniture store I went to save 1 told me they don't make solid wood furniture anymore.
The wide grain on oak is really hard to work with. I had some end grain projects it was perfect for but i can say its tough and pretty heavy. I dont use Minwax at all. I think the table looks nice and hopefully your customer does as well. You always do top quality work. Thank you for sharing.👍
Wow, all those nasty cigarette burns just melted away. It is really interesting to see how you deal with such issues and the final result is just gorgeous. The table looks like it just came out of the showroom.
Krud Kutter is great--I use it all the time for antique sewing machine and cabinet restration. The fashion in the late 19th/early 20th century was to use a dark grain filler on oak to emphasize the grain patterns--especially effective on quarter-sawn oak. I agree that Minwax stains have but a pinch of pigment in a can. I love grain painting areas of lost veneer and reproduced ornamental trim. Great save of a lovely piece! I'd like to see it on its legs, too.
You have a very beautiful place. That was amazing the transformation of that table was great I just learned a new trick to try thanks for sharing stay safe and God Bless
It was very useful to see you sorting out those burns. I have a MCM teak table that was damaged by a leaking AA battery and ended up with a shallow battery-shaped scoop etched into the veneer. It’s an easy refinish otherwise but that scoop has had me stumped and unwilling to even start the refinishing process!
that is a transformation to say the least.... i live in maine on a fixed income... and retired. so as i do agree with you about minwax being a poor quality product... i do use it in my re furbishing of furnitures. it works for me... i dont have the space/ equipt you do. i working literally in my dining room, so i do what i can...i use minwax , then sand with a dry/wet sandppr. then i use poly for a top coat... 3/4 coats with sanding betwn coats. then i use car wax and buff the hell out of it. my results are very pleasing considering what i have to work with. and yes i clean house every wk!!!!! it can be overwelming at times.. but i do with what i have to work with... i live in town on .14 acers. and 15 ft betwn houses. so no room for even building a shed for a work space outside the house . so i envy anyone who can have the space to have a work shop on any kind... great job as always trena!!!!! keep them coming... you are very fortunate to have such a gorgeous home.
Oh Thankyou. I am so fortunate! It’s such a pleasure to have space. And it’s such a joy to hear people still working with what they have. I have been there in smaller shops with no equipment. If you have skill you’ll make it work. Cheers to you!
¡Beautiful video introduction! Felicitaciones, saludos y bendiciones.
What a beautiful opening to this video. To my surprise, the table you refinished today is exactly like mine. As I was cleaning my table this morning I had thought about getting mine refinished due to some small gouges caused by a move. The table you refinished looks beautiful.❤
Minwax make great job , You see nature of the wood whit no color , i like Minwax , am not a pro for thats i like use dyeing full pack no mix , great job Trina all time 👍
The table is beautiful! Congratulations. I wish you could refinish my oak table. - just to fill in the grain. The table is in very good condition considering it's over 70 years old and has been in almost constant use. But that grain - I learned long ago not to bake on the table. Thanks for sharing.
How do have so many views and yet not even over 100K subs? People, sub to her videos! And like them! Personally, I'm a fan of white oak furniture but how you made that grain show like the original finish...amazing work Trena!

The Wood Magician strikes again ! Terrific transformation, very professional result ! 🎉
...and like magic those spots vanish. You are sooo good. You do your dad proud!
Thank you so much!
I am consistently impressed by your painstaking hand-work in simulating the grain!
There's nothing I'd rather do on a Sunday, than to watch you lovingly restore a piece of furniture.
Your so sweet❤️❤️
Pumpkins, sunflowers & wood magic…..WOW🥰🥰🥰kinda looks like mine used before your dad fixed it.
You live in a gorgeous place. The scenery is absolutely amazing beautiful! The table turned out perfect to! 😊❤

Wow, Trena. Just WOW! I think I actually gulped when you started "digging" holes in the wood. An astounding transformation. I'm sure Shop Dog approved.
Lol
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing, love your explanations and candor!
Thank you so much!
Nice job! Please show some more photos of the shop build. Thanks
That table is solid, with good quality hardware. The boards have alternating grain patterns. Very worth the restoration.
Totally agree! Always nice to hear someone who knows what they are talking about😉
Really satisfying to see a piece get all cleaned up and restored. It is now a much more welcoming place to have Sunday morning pancakes! I really enjoyed the property views as well! You've got a real pretty place Trena. :)
Couldn't agree more!
I think you got a magic wand you pasted over the table we were not looking. I love the golden oak, looks great.

I bet too

👩👩👩👩. You have that Beautiful touch Trena! When I get The Barn Finds, I get a Hot Bucket of Murphys Wood Soapand wash it down!
I hadn't heard of dealing with cigarette burns that way before, and I was surprised at how deep the charred wood went. Excellent fix!
Thanks!
BEAUTIFUL JOB AS USUAL, SWEET TRENA. ALWAYS A PLEASURE WATCHING YOU MAKE THESE AMAZING TRANSFORMATIONS, IT'S VERY RELAXING FROM THIS END!!!
Hey Trena, great job! Such a relief to see those terrible burns disappeared. Thanks for bringing us along.
My pleasure!!
Thanks for the veg patch tour.

It’s always a great day when the beautiful shop dog makes an appearance! ❤
It really is!
Wow, that leaves me breathless! Your work is beyond reproach. I may have said it before, but you are Canada’s Julian Baumgartner. ❤😊
Thanks again!
True artistry!!
It’s a shame it was treated with little respect. But you repaired it beautifully. 👍👍❤
Looks great! Love the tip about the cigarette burns.

Thank you so much!
As I sit here watching you work on the same kind of oak table that I have, I am thinking that I need to refinish my table!
😁💪
Those cigarette burns were a real test of talent. I might have guessed veneer patches would cover them. Your repairs definitely concealed the damage much better.
Thanks for sharing your tricks of the trade.
Thanks 👍
The grain filler and burn cut out tutorials were very helpful. Despite personal tastes, it turned out beautifully
Awesome, thank you!

I will!😁😁

Wonderful!
I had little hope for that table. Oh was I wrong. New life. New look. Beautiful❤❤❤❤

Cutting out the charcoal. The wood was far gone.
Wow! I never expected that this old, burned-spots oak could look that good.
Wow, Your work always amazes me. Beautiful job. Thanks for sharing it....

Great idea!!
I really dislike oak, but you did a spectacular job! The repairs and finish are both spot on. As always.

That table is another good reason to not smoke.
nice work that's skillfully done! 👍👍
Always enjoy, 😊💜
Always enjoy your vids.
Glad to hear it
What a great transformation! Someone is going to be very happy with the result 😎
I’d have gotten this all wrong. I’d have sanded lots more, tried oxalic acid, failed, and gotten out the paint. I’m so glad it ended up in your hands!
