Cooler Master's Cosmos line has always featured massive cases, useful primarily as a halo product for bringing in interested buyers -- but transitioning them to lower-cost cases, typically. Still, at $440, the Cosmos is among one of the most expensive cases we've reviewed, and it could make sense for ultra high-end home server style configurations or just for some flash.
Our benchmark of the C700M tests it vs. the C700P, H500M/H500P, and more. We're looking at thermals, cable management, acoustics, and build quality.

Any chance for an Evolve X review??
How's that evolve x coming along
where can i find the sm 800 spoken at 15:07 ?
Hi mate, This case or the Thermaltake View 91??
Looking to do a full RGB build monster build.
@@maydaygoingdown5602 Phanteks Evolve x
Good thing you have heavy duty tables now to sit that thing on. Could have been trouble at the old set.
Yes these cases can be hernia inducing!
Bought this one and I tell you it is expensive but the customization is amazing! It is stressful at first but when you get used to it, it is pretty cool. You can't see that on other cases (unless a modified one)
$140 for the case
$300 for the RGB
Jason Gooden $100 per letter.
200$ for mid range graphics card.
Same if you buy cheap casing and buy some rgb acc
$200 For Build Quality
$200 For Glass Panel
$40 For RGB Strip
Finally.... somebody who “Gets it”! You don’t buy this beast for practicality..... you buy it for personal satisfaction and to impress the crap out of your friends, lol. Great review.
I bought this case and I can confirm everything you say has happened. :) It's fabulous and I call it teh unicorn mothership
@@raukoring I just bought this from a young lady on FB marketplace for 100$ She had no idea what it even was. It was shipped to her by accident. I wasnt even in the marketplace for one, but it came across my feed. It was brand new in box, never opened.
@@jamesmkoenig lol nice one. Although lady could have some moral values and send it where it belonged. Sometimes I get parcels for other addresses but I always contact the driver to come back and do his job right
Edit: but how do you ship such a monster to a wrong place is a mystery. Mine came on pallet cuz it's so big
@@raukoring her address is on the shipping label. But it has a different name. She said she tried to find owner. Has had it for months, but is sick of it being in her house. The box is huge!
@@jamesmkoenig oh I see. You're not going to use it? It's awesome. Or you can make some bucks on it that's also an option
I found it for 319 on amazon. Absolutely love this case!
Just wanna say thanks for your videos, always look forward to them!
Thanks!

I love case reviews. I watched every one of your reviews before I picked my case, and I'm still watching after.
I have a Cosmo case, so happy to see this update !!!
I have the original Cosmos 1000 and it's still gorgeous. Never saw a reason to upgrade.
No matter what anybody says, if I’m paying over $150, I don’t want to see plastic or acrylic anywhere.
That's a Beautiful case
They did do some things right on this case. The no-cable connection for the front panel LEDs is a good idea and I hope it sticks around (at least, as long as RGB is still a thing.) The generous front-panel IO is also appreciated. I even like that they made provisions to still have a 5.25" drive or two. So many cases these days don't even let you have the option of a 5.25" drive because it would mess up their precious aesthetics. I actually think it looks nice. Not that I would buy it, but I think they did an OK job of making a cohesive design that isn't too garish. The glass side panel was, I thought, very well executed as well. Even without the curves, the hinge and lift-off panel with magnet closure seemed like a slick solution.
They certainly did some stuff wrong as well. Cooler Master should be the ones telling people, "use the internal filter or the fancy front panel, but not both." That should be in the manual, or the front panel cover should have had the mesh removed. The whole inverting the components thing...meh. It doesn't matter for performance, and doesn't make it look any better either. A waste of time and money there. I can't really fault them for the vertical GPU mount, but I CAN fault them for not making it capable of fitting 3-slot GPU's. They had the space for it, and cards > 2-slots are a thing these days. Also, for anything other than a fully water-cooled card, more clearance to the side panel is a good thing. Some folks just want to see their pretty GPU, and it would be nice if they didn't have to starve it for air to do so. Oh, and the price. I guess they figure they won't sell that many anyway so might as well try not to lose too much.
It certainly isn't something I'm interested in buying, but for what they were trying to make, I think they did a decent job. I'm just not the target audience.
Yeah, I liked the RGB too I have disabled it on my current case, ( Corsair 780T) but f only this case being reviewed had a decent amount of HDD cages, I might consider it, as it hasn't here's hoping this RGB implementation takes off...
Those cats in the ad look fake without ray tracing
The price is perfectly matched for those who preordered $1200 2080Tis.
1200$? Amazon and eBay begs to differ...
This is going to be my next case. Thanks for this video.
Love you guys! Thanks for making amazing in-depth content!
Wow. That's some *RTX On* cost.
Rtx 3090 SLI? Mmm NEC supercomputer too on that case on e-atx Mobo or ATX 11th gen Intel Mobo PCI 16x 3 slots at 5.0. mmm. DDR5 SSD 2TB ram Intel combination. Mmmm. Finishes self cooling 3d printed materials for cooling the case and fans using air cooling and PSU that Auto shuts down with ohm ai sensors for power spikes and for heat wire monitoring for fire Hazzard with dust filters that can cool air 3d printed on the fans and mobos. Makes 9th gen bc PCI-e 16x Intel card for salvaged parts from old hp Omen desktop to use with new desktop using tb4 or inside the case itself.
Nice review. Bought one because of this review. Thank you. And finally built it today 28 Nov 2018. MANY screws, but it came out great. Repeat, MANY screws, but ends well. Necro. Still very happy with this case. Very happy with it. Rock solid, weighs a LOT though. Easy to keep clean. Don't buy it if you don't like it. I am considering a second one. LOTS of room.
I got mine yesterday and goddamn the amount of options this case has is ridiculous took me longer to set up my pc than usual because of all the things I had to remove and move etc
YAY!!! Case reviews are back again.
cooler master, THANK YOU for going for the subtle branding!!
Just ordered this arrives Friday.
Cooler Master let you review another case? I'm amazed they didn't zipwire into your office and remove it. Great content, Steve et al.
Great review. Cant wait for that Phanteks Evolv X review
My silver ACTS 840 lasted me 10 years so far - and 2 complete PC builds.
I like the versatility and the design of the C700M and will probably get one, which will last me as long - I hope.
I upgraded to this after using a HAF 912 for a decade, the smaller version of the 932/X design. Coming off an ancient case design and looking at modern cases was pretty tough because design sensibilities have changed so much. Most newer cases have better airflow from the front but at the expense of losing hard drive and expansion bays. I can deal with not having tons of hard drive slots but I needed at least one expansion bay to put a disc drive, so funnily enough that was a big reason why I went with this monster case. Besides that, the full tower frame makes it very easy to work in the large space and I can remove or add anything I need. My HAF 912 lasted me a decade so I see no reason why this one shouldn't, which that thinking helps me swallow the price tag. Thanks for the review!
Always a great review. Do you have a time line of when we can expect the Phanteks Evolv X review?
I would love to see comparison between different layouts, but more as guide to what look for in the future/what is the best/does it really matter than detailed comparison. Just rough guide and fun fact than anything else.
Steve's not kidding... this thing has a lot of screws.... I've been on it for about 6 hours now... finally got it into where i want it.
Just got one of these for cheaper from a customer that had one and didn’t want it. Very nicely built. It’s pricey for sure, but I’m happy so far 😊
Would be cool to see the chimney version
best time to catch a new upload 11:05 CST
edit:
I was talking about the actual time but it gave it a pretty good time stamp too :D
Thank you N!
Are you ever gonna do a test of the Evolv X? Your tests are so damn complete that I really want to know your opinion even if I've already bought it
Steve mentioned in another comment that they got a loaner in.
Ye i bought one 😍
The plastic on these CM cases always makes them look so cheap. I do not see "flagship" when I look at this
yep they made curved glass panel but plastic… Lian Li with its aluminum is more elegant. Still I think real luxury would be some noble wood like mahogany, ebony or high tech materials like carbon fiber.
Hell my phanteks enthoo evolve has no plastic that is visible.
Recently released Evolv X looks more premium imho
I reckon the cougar panzer Evo looks better. Plus it is way cheaper
The thing is already 24kg, if you make the entire thing out of aluminium you would not be able to lift it.
It's easy to pay the asking price if you ever owned a cosmos case in the past. These cost 470 now and it's still worth what they're asking. In 8 years it will cost 650. You can find the older cosmos cases on ebay but someone is still gonna ask 200 for it, and it's not brand new in the box, you may be missing pieces and packaging.
Ied love to get this case even in 2020 I haven’t seen one I like better.
lmao "The case is also a test case for Workers Comp" XD
Next up, please review the Evolv X GN! As soon as it's available :-D
I got this case a year ago with 64GB ddr4 ram and rtx2080ti. The only negative is the weight of the case. But it is very quiet, easy to clean.
There are many, many, many people over on the Cooler Master "Fanzone" forum complaining for over a year now that after spending $400+ the RGB lighting doesn't work right on the C700M. And when people over there get upset after spending $400+ on a case that doesn't work as advertised, Cooler Master kicks them off the forum.
post credits scene is awesome
I need you guys to review the Cooler Master MC500P! It's the only sort of affordable option here in Argentina hehehe
This case can support a 420mm "3xs 140mm Fans. Wow this is a Beast.
Thanks for the review.
I'm upgrading from a Cooler Master Scout, decided to get this case because nothing as similar to what i'd like, decided to finally bite the bullet and try a Full Tower case.. xP excited about this case and defiantly don't regret it so far :3 Going to put my pc together this weekend. ^w^
very nice looking case, good amount of feature I would use, sadly way more than I would be willing to pay for a case
I got this case ,half price it's amazing 😍
I love your vids almost as much as I love your hair.
I bought the C700P from a local Store here in Birmingham, UK as it was the only Case in the Store that had space for an Optical Drive, I bought it just before COVID & Lockdown here in the UK & it was Shop Display at the time so not Brand New technically & paid £250 which I thought was a pretty good deal at the time & it never housed PC Parts as far as I know, Heaviest Case I’ve ever bought & I was shocked to find that it’s taller & Wider than my Beige Full Tower PC Cases that I bought back in the 90’s which I still have, Don’t ask! 😂🇬🇧
that's one nice metal case. jeezus!
Was a video ever made on vertical mounts on hybrid video cards? Hardware Canucks and other did videos on verticals, and Steve mentions that they should only be used for hybrids, but I dont think they were ever tested on video for thermals.
Theoretically there should be no penalties, but I still want to see it quantified.
US it’s 10 degrees hotter in vertical mount. Tested it with my palit gtx 1080 on air so it’s made for water cooled gpus
I like these kind of videos. I'll never buy it but it's still cool. I'll never be able to own a Ferrari F40 but I'll still watch videos about it.
Steve, are we likely to see an Evolv X review from you? I’d love to hear your thoughts and see your test results for this case 👍
Cheers!
Beautiful!
that sweet feeling you get when you watch a 2 year old video about a case neither linus or jay reviewed / did a build in.
Thank you for the review man! Question: is it completely safe to do the front panel opening in 9:20 while the PC is on? can't that bring some kind of electric problem or failure to the rgb or any other component? Thanks
While this case is probably never in the cards for me, I'm curious to see what the chimney configuration looks like in terms of setup and thermals and more specifically if there's use cases that would make it more advantageous than just adding more fans.
check hardware cannucks, TLDW pretty garbage.
This case wasn't designed for it, the SL600M that is designed for it (bottom intake with a solid front panel) would be the one to get it on if CM would ever bring it to market
Not sure if it was discussed but are the top and bottom handles removable? I know it's useful but i feel it would get rid of some of the excessive size and maybe improve the aesthetics.
I'd love to see a review for the Corsair 1000D for comparison
Best part of the video was the cats XD
Are you going to be doing a review on the Raijintek Ophion/Ophion Evo that was sitting on the table in the 10/1 HW News?
CM could save some money on the case if they wouldn't include the cheap fans. Four fans at between $10-15 marks a reasonable price drop since most buyers aren't going to leave the stock fans in anyway.
I'm getting this case (the alternative would have been the much more expensive Enthoo Elite), and I probably will leave the original fans in place (depending on airflow). Many others won't bother replacing them either. So, in my case even cheap fans are better than nothing. :)
Furthermore, you can bet reviewers would be pointing the finger at CM if they didn't include ANY fans in a case of this price. This is a typical case of 'damned if you do, damned if you don't'. ;)
Okay so you're in the minority on the fans. If you can afford to buy the case you should be able to afford better fans. Airflow be damned if they sound like turbine engines even if they move loads of air.
@@JcRabbit but what's the reason of leaving crappy stock fans when you can spare the money for such an expansive case? one should assume you know enough about PCs and have the dough to not cheap out on airflow. I mean anything else than watercooling would be a waste of the case anyways imo. And then 4 fans wont be enough :)
And for that price they could at least put in some good fans. Also wise from a marketing perspective. Hey, we put 2 high end corsair RGB fans in here, seems like if you want to expand its wise to buy more corsair rgb to match the ones you have.
@Toffsen100, @Roger J - Two reasons:
First because I won't be building the system myself (I could, but I can't be bothered). This case will be a part of a complete new system that is supposed to last me for the next 5-6 years like the old one did, so I just select the parts I want to buy, get the shop I buy them from to assemble and configure the new system for me (they do a great job with cable management, etc), and then I do the overclocking here.
Currently I'm just waiting eagerly for Intel to finally release the i9 9900K. :)
Second, because as long as long as nothing in the system is throttling at full load or reaching dangerous temperatures, then that is 'good enough' for me (and, I suspect, most people who buy fully assembled systems).
They could sell a cheaper version without the included fans while still selling the current one.
I bought this just to fit my 3090 . I got it vertical against the glass tbh lol . Waiting for a liquid cooler for the 3090
How did you get it vertical? My founders edition didn’t fit the vertical mount at all, so I’m just curious. Plus pcie4 riser cables were crazy priced! 😊
Getting the case next week, already thinking where I should put my 3080 , myb I go upwards for the first time.
I would love to see the chimney effect...
Great review once again! Any estimate on the Phanteks Evolv X review?
We just got a loaner in.
@Gamers Nexus - Thank you! The C700M is a nice case, but like you said a HALO product. That one is less than half the price so, if it is decent it is actually within my budget. Keep up the AMAZING work. You folks over there have been invaluable as I slowly acquire parts for my new build.
It'd be cool if a case manufacturing made a gpu mount on top of the psu shroud so that the gpu sits horizontal in the case.
this case has exactly what you are asking :D you can have it vertical, at an angle or orizontal on the PSU shroud and/or the HDD bracket
I saw those cats in the RX580 ad. I'm watching you. *squints*
XD
Cooler Master HAF X still kicking ass after all those years. If they would just refresh it and update a few things a bit I would buy it all over again. For ~$130 hard to beat it even today. Function > form (not to say it looks bad either).
I would do the absolute same for a refresh to the Storm Trooper series. Make it modern CM!
I feel like nzxt are the only manufacturer who actually know what they are doing, they have a common look and include what people actually want who is this really for.
I love my S340 Elite but Phanteks and Fractal Design also make really nice cases with good features.
@@hunterlong1820 agreed. I love my Phanteks Enthoo Pro it's a great case in my opinion.
they should've put the top honeycomb design on the front too, for cooler design AND better airflow...
I have c700p. Difference between c700p and c700m:
1) c700p doesn’t have addresive RGB led lights, adressive of course better, but if you want you can change leds to addresive RGB in C700p and connected it to your controller ( which you want to use). I like thermaltake rgb Plus , as I think it’s universal then asus aura, it works with any computer by usb
2) c700p have dark glass, it’s good for dark style, but probably for some times need normal glass like c700m as I see to see addresive light inside. C700p has glass without black borders.
3) c700p has different little power supply cover, you can remove it, if you have addresive rgb light power supply and rgb fans, other covers you stay..
4) c700p is $140-$200 cheaper ( practically 1.5 times cheaper).
I’m curious enough to want to see results from a chimney orientation.
It does look pretty, I’ll be interested to hear how it is on airflow.
Keep the front panel for looks. Remove redundant filter. Replace all fans with good ones. Use the built in rib control not some sw bloatware. Tilt the video card back 20-30 degrees, gets it away from the glass. Remove all drive trays, use nvme. Enjoy. I started with a tt72, went to a 91, then this. Cat sleeps on the other two.
@@whiskeymike7364 ahh yes the cat test . If is good for a cat to sleep on is bad for your build 😂
Any news on the other case SL600M? I'm patiently waiting for some news about this one Its the one case iv been waiting for to possibly upgrade to from my old HAF X.
Hey there! Quick question. Do you think you could fit a 3-fan CPU liquid cooler and four hybrid all-in-one 2080 Tis (each with their own fan) in this case?
there seems to be alot of stuttering in the video footage very easy to see when the fan blade seems to pause
That ending though! Lol
Still using my old Cooler Master CM Stacker 800, not sure I will ever need anything else.
Got this when CompUSA went out of business so I guess it's showing it's age.
I have a Stacker and a HAF. I thought I way over spent when I got them. Now, every new review of a new case just makes me smile when I think about my cases.
Nice case...but I think the H500M is better. The 200mm fans are great and if you go for mesh or glass it will look good.
Ah, I see CM still has the tooling for the Cosmos series.
You could buy a soft tube loop with a 360 rad for the Gpu and the ability to later add the cpu to the loop...
Nice ending.
Will GamerNexus release their own case in the future? 😁
I wish there are places we can just custom made cases easily. Maybe easier at Western countries with various DIY-maker places but certainly not here at non-China Eastern part of the world.
Gonna get some pop corn, after all its Jesus on Cooler Master!
In comparison with the cool master 500m, would you say it's worth buying this? Or just buy the 500m?
Sweet Case
Jay just hit 15k! Can you beat it?
still love my cosmos 1000 :)
i was looking into this case to replace the thermaltake t900 all to put io to top, but i think maybe will keep my case. recently put my gpu to the back in seperate compartment, but now cant see it, thinking about moving it to the bottom and changing the hd layout to the back, then sticking plenty of fans in the back. ah its difficult finding a case to replace this big damn thing.
Why would anyone want it? It's one of the very few cases with a combination of: 5.25" Optical Drive Slot, USB-C and RGB. Find me another case like that, besides C700P.
Please review cooler master k500 rgb ;)
I love that ending 😂😂😂😂😂
O_O $440 No thanks...
What the hell, did they do to their case? It doesnt looks like they dropped the ball here, I have a Cosmos S case the classic one thats discontinued mind you. Corsair 900D was much better appeal
Did you not hear the 2 minute explanation of how this is a halo product?
get your job, dimwit!!
Lol bending PCI 16x slots? Oh let me count the ways that's a godsend after last night! To me this case is a bargain and highly future proof being modular and clean looking. Dust filters everywhere too.
Me to Steve on the 51 lb case: "Bro, do you even o'erclock?"
Do you think there would be room for fans on either side of the radiator (front of case)?
Can you recommend a full tower with at least 1 optical drive and a usb-c and 2 to 4 usb-a ports on the front.
I have an old cosmo case and am cleaning it up to install new innards and fans to update it. Huge, heavy and lots of features. Long before the RBG, but I'm an old fart and don't care about that. I also have a coolermaster HAF case I like almost as well. I like the rails because it keeps it off the desk and also easy to carry since it is heavy.
I've recently got my hands on Cooler Master Storm Stryker case.
I want to swap my build into it from "Corsair Obsidian 450d" just for the looks, but my 360 aio doesn't fit anywhere in that huge battleship.
I wonder if the front usb C port’s motherboard header cable is long enough to actually reach the board header. I have a H500M and the cable is way too short to reach the header on an MSI X399 Pro Carbon. This seems like not too big a deal, but I can’t find an extension cable for this anywhere ☹️
@Gamers Nexus At 15:25 you say not put an air cooled card vertical. Here's an issue though... I have an Evga 2080 XC Ultra card that worked fine until I got the Asus X570-E motherboard which has a shroud on there that blocks airflow for the videocard to escape along the motherboard. The result is GPU throttling, hence I wanted to mount the card upright, as I want to keep it aircooled as a "set and forget" system that I can't be arsed about to look if it still has cooling solution in it or if it's leaking.
So... what do you recommend?
