The Canucks earlier this week hosted the Kraken, scoring in that game, unlike the Leafs in either of their last two:
      - a pair of unanswered goals
      - over 2 goals in a 3-1 win
I see a Huge need for the leaves to start repeating what earlier this week the Canucks did to the Kraken to get off the best start possible to the 2024-25 regular season. Whether the Leafs will often enough this season repeat what helped the Canucks beat the Kraken remains TBD.

playing your full roster in the preseason multiple times got you guys in the ass. matthew’s is out for a little bit, and nylander had an awkward collision with dvorak’s knee, rest your star players for the regular season and let the young pups show what they’ve got.

I see this season as yet another conference-final-or-bust one for the Leafs. Fail to make the final-4 this season, and nothing short of Brendan Shanahan losing of the presidency of this club will be acceptable.

It’s all good and fine to beat other teams 2-1, but always having to do so, as the Leafs found out last postseason against the Bruins, will only get the Leafs so far. The Canucks 2 seasons ago put up, during their first 14 regular-season games, a putrid 4-7-2-1 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record, with five of those losses, all in regulation, having come in games during which they have scored under three goals. Just imagine if the Leafs, like during the past two games, struggle so often to score 3 more goals. Maybe those Leafs will end up with this season anywhere from 6 to 8 points after 14 regular-season games and end up, like the Canucks two seasons ago, end up at least 10 points out of the nearest available playoff spot.
The Leafs this regular season are scheduled to play 26, 24 and 32 respective games against Atlantic Division, Metro Division and Western Conference teams (16 games per Western Conference division). The Leafs last season finished 11 points ahead of the Caps and Wings for a playoff spot but just 4 ahead of the Bolts for a top-three divisional spot, and those Bolts had gone through a late-regular-season slump. Thankfully the Leafs still have time to more consistently score at least three goals per game, but there’s no better time to start practising playing those games than the next game they play (this Saturday Eastern Daylight Time at the Bell Centre).

@@Allen-k6n1o I really hope this regular season for the Leafs will go more like the Canucks‘ most-recent season (lost conference semifinal in seven games to the Oilers, with the last game a 3-2 loss after having partially erased a 3-0 deficit) than the Canucks’ second-most-recent (12 points out of the nearest available playoff spot). That said, two straight games of having scored under three goals does not give me lots of confidence, with the start of the regular season scheduled for the second week from now.
