    I'm restoring a thorens like yours and I find that the arm TP 21jumps before reaching the end of the album, do you know about a solution? Thank you, Sorry is google translation

      Not off of the top of my head. Does it do it in the same spot on all records? This would be a good question for the kind folks on audiokarma or vinylengine.

      @@millervintagehifi3034 Yes, it does it in the same part on all the albums. I'll do as you tell me. I will consult with Audio Karma or vinylengine. Thank you for your answer

    Can you post more info on the product you used to polish the dust cover? Also, the platter mat is upside down. Cheers!

      I flipped the mat over when I got it into the shop. I looked at several pics online and saw it oriented both ways. It just didn't look right. I use Novus Fine Scratch Remover and an orbital buffer.

      @@millervintagehifi3034 I agree. I put a red acrylic mat over it and it looks much better. Thanks for the info.

      @@skumnjepf Actually, I use the acrylic platter over the factory rubber mat. The extra height helps me get the correct tone arm height that I need.

    what is the weight of the oil you used for the platter bearing?

    • @millervintagehifi3034
      @millervintagehifi3034  Год назад

      Not sure...I use a product called Reel Butter (Ardent Outdoors). It's the same stuff I use on my fishing reels. Seems to work really well.

      @@millervintagehifi3034 service manual suggests a 5W-40 Non-Detergent oil for the later models, I imagine using something heavier would overwork the motor

      @@midmodaudio6576 Good to know. I found a forum post on a fishing site where someone claimed to have asked a question about viscosity to Ardent - the reply was that it is has a viscosity of 5, but there was no information about the weight. I’ve used it on all of my personal tables and haven’t had any issues - but I’m not sure I’ve reached the ‘few thousand hours of operation’ threshold Thorens mentions about the lube interval.

      If your belt is either OEM (like was the ORIGINAL belt) it's probably time to change it. If it's aftermarket, then issues like this can easily pop up. I only buy OEM belts from vinylnirvana for my Thorens turntables. The other issue can be the pulley that sits on the motor has moved down and will need to be readjusted. They are usually 'friction-fit' and a few kitchen spoons strategically placed can help you gently 'pry' the pulley and cause it to move up the shaft.

      Hi, interesting work.
      What kind of oil did you use? A Thorens special oil? A generic oil?
      A sewing machine oil?
      Regards...

    Actually the 318 has auto lift but without return. so it is semi-auto I guess.
