@@laithalabri8456 that's exactly it. Shrek 2 was made before the streaming age so there are some complications with getting the soundtrack on streaming platforms because there was no way of anticipating what Spotify would do to the music industry.
It just makes it all the more epic. And I believed that’s Harry Gregson-Williams himself doing the orchestration of the song, and when I’m listening to this, I’m into the moment!! Jennifer Saunders CRUSHED IT!!!!
Also, can we all just take a moment to comprehend how actually competent the castle guards are at their job? They prepared for every eventuality, including giant cookie attacks (warm milk wouldn't do much to anything else), and with the exception of the Puss scene, their combat strategy is spot-on, such as forming lines to keep out the intruders instead of just rushing in head-on.
However I don't think it can be written off how terrible the puss scene was. The 5 armored knights who should have been training from childhood, (or if they aren't actual knights and just elite soldiers than from their early adulthood) and they got beat by a damn cat. Additionally, you can't catch a guy on horseback with a sword. He just has too much speed and momentum for a relatively small weapon. They should have had polearms, crossbows, or at least spears. And of course, none of them seem to be wearing any mail or padding under their armor, leaving their joints, particularly the neck, exposed and making it much less comfortable to move around in. Overall, while they at least held some baseline level of mindfulness, they are still surprisingly incompetent soldiers to be manning the capital's castle
The Puss scene WASN'T terribly written though. They let their guard down because they thought he was just some cute harmless kitty, and he took advantage of that. The scene also perfectly illustrates exactly how he got everything he wanted, the sad kitten act being shown to essentially give him control over any situation, and even played on the unpredictability of actual cat behaviour, which just makes it even better IMO. Additionally, you have to remember he's not JUST a cat, he's a cat who fights like friggin' Zorro and gained notoriety as someone who kills things several times his own size. And as a matter of fact, Puss may not have originally won--an earlier draft of the script had him not seen again after that, implying his potential death, but like Gingy originally dying trying to save Mongo, that was deemed too upsetting and written out.
Watching this scene as a kid, I was always surprised how the knights were so well-prepared for a giant pastry attack. No shock, no questions, and very convenient hot milk barrels layed out for the defence. I'm pretty sure the Muffin Man tried to take over the kingdom before, at least once, with a huge gingerbread army.

Even without the scene, you can just feel the weight of the situation. It's letting you know that this is it, this is the climactic battle. If the slightest thing goes wrong, then the villain wins.
Jennifer SLAYED this song! This scene is one of the most epic ones in a children’s animation film. I love how the Shrek films can be enjoyed by both children and adults! ❤
There is one singular flaw with this track: the fact that the soundtrack release version (the one in this video) is missing one _crucial_ aspect that ties the whole thing together. *_”HIT IT!”_*
I love the part after this song is finished and shrek comes in saying "HEY YOU BACK AWAY FROM MY WIFE!" Like after a song like this and the intensity in the moment, the delivery of that line gives chills.
You know a song is epic and timeless when you can envision everything that happened in the movie while it was playing. Every scene every detail. You can just close your eyes and see it in your mind.
2:27 gotta love that little bit of Shrek's theme/leitmotif. Plus behind the first verse there is the first half of Fiona's theme/Fairytale played on strings
For how meme-able shrek is. This song is really well made. I think i like it more than the original. You can fight me on that. I feel the orchestra in the back builds up climax and tension really well. While the electro beat keeps the song on track. Really well done DreamWorks. Or whoever made this version.

The Fairy Godmother is one of the best antagonists I have ever seen. She is very different compared to most villains. The Fairy Godmother is a hero in Cinderella, but she is pure evil in this movie. She does not have an evil castle or lair to torture her enemies. She uses her magical powers to do that. She does not have an ugly physical appearance like most villains do. Plus, she sings throughout the movie, and I can't think of many villains who are known for singing.
Jennifer Saunders out here singing the best damn cover of any song you will ever here. Hats off to the composer and the orchestra too, this shit is pure fire.
I love how it's applicable to all the major characters- Fiona is literally holding out for a hero, who is Shrek, while Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming think they're the heroes.
Everything about this song evokes Shrek. The chord progression following the DreamWorks theme, the 80s pop aesthetic (along with song choice) fitting Shrek's iconic status in internet culture, and even the "Shrek heroism" leitmotif being hidden throughout the song. This song was made for a Shrek cover. Jennifer Saunders, you knocked it out of the park, nay, this performance is quite out of this world. Perfection 👌
Actually, this song is heavily influenced by the early 90s rave scene in Western countries, using the 909 drum machine, or at least something similar to that. Not only that, they also made great use of the electric piano, which was heavily used during said scene.
it doesnt even scream shrek. It just screams dreamworks as a whole fr. The only difference is that Dreamworks IS the hero among all the other major animation companies. Like, if i had to pick a song to describe dreamworks perfectly it would be this. And Dreamworks signature movies would definetly be Kung fu panda, Shrek and How to train your dragon. Their early animated stuff is good too but lets be honest here, this is the right route Dreamworks chose.

2:27 gotta love that little bit of Shrek's theme/leitmotif. Plus behind the first verse there is the first half of Fiona's theme/Fairytale played on strings
One of the most obnoxiously 80s songs mixed with that obnoxiously obvious early 2000's beat. And I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT.

Had me in the first half, not gonna lie
For how meme-able shrek is. This song is really well made. I think i like it more than the original. You can fight me on that. I feel the orchestra in the back builds up climax and tension really well. While the electro beat keeps the song on track. Really well done DreamWorks. Or whoever made this version.
Definitely agree, especially with the start being so slow and suddenly it turns into a fast-paced epic orchestral track is incredible
The entire movie is a cinematic master piece but the power of THIS scene holy shit

I agree until the end. Most Disney villains have their own iconic theme they sing

1:51 SHREK IS THE HERO!!!! 😭😭💪💪💪
this is the shrekiest song
Actually, this song is heavily influenced by the early 90s rave scene in Western countries, using the 909 drum machine, or at least something similar to that. Not only that, they also made great use of the electric piano, which was heavily used during said scene.
Hello fellow sideways fan
it doesnt even scream shrek.
God Jennifer Saunders absolutely killed it with the vocals on this. Still iconic 15 years later. Better than the original
