But, this learning might have been years ago, and maybe in a different key. That's just the lead guitarist, and I'm really referring to the whole band. Someone playing rhythm, for instance, who's never heard this song before, should be able to follow it on the fly, in any key. I know I could do that. Also, if I had to play a solo, well by the time we're half way through the song I'd know plenty about the structure to improvise something suitable. It wouldn't necessarily be anything like the original song, but it would fit.
When I first heard 'Born To Run', I was completely overcome by its brilliance and vowed to like everything Bruce ever did. He has not let me down. Sheer genius!

That was a great concert. Honestly, he's always great, but that was as good a Bruce show as any of the 20+ I've seen since 1981. Three hours and 20 minutes, he did three sign requests for covers that night, the others were "Louie, Louie" and "Mustang Sally." He's definitely the Boss.

He’s probably the best concert experiences I’ve ever witness, 6 times and each time we were begging him to keep playing. His band is top notch his showmanship is like no other always bummed the show was over but so grateful for magical nite.
Bruce Springsteen is a genuine person and he has a great taste too, I read he and his band worshipped Astral Weeks, I know they admire Van Morrison so much. Great artist inspire on other greats, the cycle of music!

Pretty sure he has jammed on it before, maybe just a tad rusty. I know over 100 songs but not totally current on every one...I have done a similar thing with a tiny rehearsal in front of the crowd, sometimes with new players... Bruce is known for great concerts where they sometimes fly by the seat of their pants, not tied to a script where every word, lick, and move is planned.

I’ve always admired Springsteen’s dedication to his fans, he has always given everything he has in every concert.
I love how Bruce hunts around for the right key. I'm 80, non-demonstrative, and still feel like dancing.
The ability of the musicians to just play the song right off the bat in whatever key he wants is incredible
