@@JJ_GoBlue I'll disagree with that. Tom seems to ace everything you can throw at him. What I'm a little concerned about is the pending NFL Network-ESPN merger. If the entity keeps Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport as the chief insiders, what will they do with Tom? The good news -- again, I'm pushing back here -- is that Tom is the ultimate utility infielder for NFL Network. Just so valuable in so many ways.

The NFL is ridiculous with this "next man up" nonsense involving their contracts. It should be the BEST PLAYERS per position, get the most money. Instead, benchmarks are made, and mediocre players then expect to hit that benchmark and above. Goff deserved his extension. NFC Championship games and Super Bowl appearances are in his career thus far. Dak Prescott hasn't sniffed an NFC title game. He should make less, or play out the contract and be let go. Great commentary from Tom. I normally laugh at Jerry Jones and his antics, but I can't say I disagree with him regarding his hesitant approach on contracts for Dak and McCarthy. Dak puts up big numbers during the season but struggles in the playoffs. McCarthy won in Green Bay because he had Aaron Rodgers in his prime. Aaron is way better than Dak. I can see why Jerry is waiting. However, to make a proper judgment on Dak, you need to be sure he is surrounded by talent, especially a running game. I think thus year will be very interesting in Dallas.

Very interesting how Purdy managed to stay completely out of this conversation, when his contract will be by far the most controversial/talked about one. Love, Lawrence and Tua would be going from a first-round deal to a real QB deal; that's a big gap, yes, but they're already making multiple millions per year. Purdy will *at minimum* increase his APY by a factor of 30, and could potentially get as much as 50 depending on how he plays this coming season.

In no particular order other than Patrick at the very top. The best should be the best paid. I don't care about the next man up to negotiate. Unfortunately, most sports contracts aren't paid based off of current performance. It's either competitive market value, past performance or future performance. Cousins was paid based on a market of unattractive FA QB's, Lamar was paid off of past performance, and Herbert was paid for potential future performance. Mahomes is essentially being paid scale on average. Some years he'll be the highest paid, other years he'll be #5-10. There will probably never be a system that the NFLPA will agree to that doesn't allow the free market to work its over-paying magic.
