Green Beret, developed and released by Imagine for the Commodore 64 in 1986.
A conversion of Rush’N Attack by Konami in 1984. The Commodore 64 version was quite good for its time. Plays well and runs smooth but can be insanely difficult. Only 4 levels and they loop supposedly more difficult each time. Some great music is presented before the game starts.

oh man this takes me back
Green Beret was my first game. I was playing on my C64 in 88. My C64 was connected to black and white ITT Shaub Lorenz television. Unfortunately, we can't afford to buy monitor. Thanks to my mother, Sema Gercek, I have good memories from my bad childhood because of her beautiful heart. R.I.P my dear mom.
Not sure what year I got mine but i had Ferguson B&W portable TV in my bedroom to start with
For most of my life, whenever I have jogged a short distance for whatever reason, I have mouthed the noise of military drums as I run, because of this game
One of the most difficult games I´ve ever played... never made it to the end.
Same here.. hard ass game.. bad ass music
Oh I don't know, once you memorise where the enemies are it's not that bad.
@@pigpenpete Memorizing where the enemies are isn't sufficient, since they still randomly shoot at you and there's no shooting animation (unlike the arcade) meaning you have a millisecond to respond! It all feels very cheap to me.
It was when they shot you at close range there was nothing you could do about it so my strategy was to lie on the floor for all the shooting guys
Memories!
Martin Galway had his very own way of dealing with the wonderfull SID chip... he knew (and probably still knows) how to tame it to do his wishes...
I sunk LITERALLY hundreds, maybe thousands of hours into this game back in the day. Managed to complete it once, maybe twice…..amazing how much fun they can make with only 64K!!
Wow, impressive! I couldn’t get past the Bridge stage, the enemies shooting made it near impossible to complete.
@@becomeanolive1637 Yes, this was the big problem - if the enemy decided to shoot you at the last minute there was literally nothing you could do about it which IMHO was actually a major flaw in it. So my strategy was to assume that EVERY enemy was going to shoot as they got close so I would automatically lie down and knife them from the ground which would dodge any bullets if they decided to fire. That got tricky when they were in a group with some kicking ninjas but it was doable. I also watched some people play the arcade version (which was much easier) at our local sports club and saw them complete a few levels so I knew roughly what to expect which helped. BUT it was still insanely hard and you really needed to be super alert and in some sort of zen like state of being “in the zone”. I managed to achieve this only a handful of times but played it for hundred and hundreds of hours! Great game!
Ohhhh 🙄🥲☹😢😣 you just killed me with this bro
Just like old time.. 💔🥲
I like how they ran out of idea for end bosses for the last level and said "ah, just send more guys".
Press shift / stop run , wait about 30mins for the game to load lol 😂 great times 🤪
you didn't have abc turbo? poor man. I also had a disk drive.
Stop showing off
30 mins? That's if you were lucky. In some cases the loader would randomly fail and you'd have to rewind the tape and try it all again!
It was such a sigh of relief finally getting a 1541-II Disk Drive in my house - that thing was God's gift to gamers back then!
@@tiges You brag about owning a disk drive for the C64 ~35 years ago? Poor man. 😆
Nice sir
Never could have gotten past the first level when I was a kid. SWH
That was a hell of a game those days
I'm surprised it wasn't called "Rush N Attack". I used to hate when the blue soldiers would shoot at me even after I flamethrowered them. Very frustrating. My brother used to active the special qeapons by hitting the spacebar on the keyboards while Imoved the guy with the joystick and did all of the knifing.
O bom desse e que ele roda lisinho e tem mais animação no movimento do personagem
So in the Arcade cab of Green Beret the final boss is a Flamethrower carrier, wonder why it was altered in the C64 version? Great run btw! 👌😊
My cousins had this one, I remember I really wanted it so badly, I got the Atari 2600 at home.
"The arcade game had next to no music at all - just a
few jingles between levels and such. I started with the
loading music and imagined the desolation of a place
torn apart by war, where plants and flowers started to
regrow, and beauty has returned. For the high-score
tune, I implemented an unlicensed version of Jerry
Goldsmith's tune from The Great Escape - this appears
to be unused if you actually play the game ... not sure
what happened there (apart from the obvious, it was
a bad idea!) Finally, I had left the title screen to last
and really had no idea what to do. I started with a big
intro and went into a pretty terrible dance track that
I wasn't happy with at the time - and have only grown
to like less as the years have gone by! It's pretty hard
to listen to it, and any time anyone has spent effort
doing a remix or arrangement of it, I feel sorry!"

Good
9:13 sick!
This game was so fcuking hard, I don't think I got past the start of the 2nd level.
I had this game and it would always crash at the helicopter fight lol
Nice 👍
I regret I didn't have this game.
Probably one of the most frustrating games along side combat school the amount of 🕹 that we’re destroyed was in the process😂
top 10 c64 game. but very difficult. nearly impossible to finish.
Juego putoo sonido te vuelve locooo!!!
hmm is this played by the computer.. reaction time is like 0.0001 sec
So many bad games so many great memories.
"So many good games so many great memories."
Fixed that for you. Ha, ha!
Not bad at all.
Is Green Beret the proper name for it instead of Russian Attack curious?
European title in some cases while Rush'N Attack is the US title.
Yes, I believe Green Beret was its original title from its Japanese release in arcades.
Awesome! Thank you for the info guys appreciate it! 👍
Just to clarify, it was actually *Rush 'N' Attack* (as in a pun on Russian Attack).
SO there is only two level?
There a green beret game on thr Atari 8 bit computers ad well. Why the C64 looks and plays better than the Atari Version? Is it due to the poor programming?
This game insanely hard almost unplayable 😂
Viva peron carajo
Nes is the best version
I had that one , RushNAttack, I dind't hav ethis one even tho i had the c64 longer than I did the NES
Contra?
Nah....
Green Beret! Is better
