Nice suggestion to press from the inside. Unfortunately, this method can't be applied to cameras, where the battery compartment is a closed type, so threads and batteries are not seen even from the inner side of the bottom cover, like the first Pentax Spotmatic and many other cameras.
No exactly, to quote John Clarke in "The front fell off sketch" Cardboard's out of the question. Unless you line it with a conductive material like aluminum foil or something. Another option is to buy a new battery cover on ebay. It might cost you a few buck. But then again, it might be worth it to not have to worry about diy solution if you're as handy as me ;)
Remarkable. I wasn't even looking for this video, but it may well be exactly what I need for an old camera I had given up on.
I hope it will work for you to. Worst case scenario you can at least change the batteries out, even if the cover is stuck.

WHAT TO DO IF BATTERY COVER IS MISSING ALL TOGETHER? you would need something that conducts electricity, cardboard would not work -- any ideas?
