  • In this video, I had the pleasure of meeting Dave and talking a bit about boxing - a topic we both love, especially Lethwei.

'Mingalarbar' doesn't mean 'Warmly welcome'. The word "mingala" has its roots in Pali, with the original form being "Maṅgalaṃ." It translates to "the cause of development." The Buddha taught 38 methods to achieve prosperity in both the worldly and transcendental realms. These methods surpass the teachings of any modern-day thrift guide book in terms of practicality and depth.
The ancient people of Myanmar coined the greeting "Mingalabar" as a reminder to one another, "Hey, guy, let's not forget the paths to prosperity."
However, in today's society, despite the Buddha's teachings on the benefits of abstaining from alcohol ("Majjapānā Ca Saṃyamo - Not drinking alcohol is a source of prosperity"), one can often see these words prominently displayed on signboards outside Myanmar pubs.
