Refs used be much quicker, I think at any rate. Ronnie could not have made that 5.20 maximum without a good ref. I think 'policy' has changed since then though -- now they supposed to stand out of the players' line of sight. Noticed the ref in the Northern Ireland final not doing that on at least one occasion with Ronnie, cause he could see how quick Ronnie was playing. Seems to me they should at least make an effort to keep up with the pace of play. Which of course was Ronnies point here :-)
@@sdrtcacgnrjrc That's interesting. It would look funny if the ref was like the sped up Benny Hill sketches, would be fine as a one-off but I suppose it wouldn't be sustainable
@@sdrtcacgnrjrc I think the ref should ask the players before the start of the match, which way they want to be refereed. if a player (like Ronnie) likes playing fast, and doesn't mind the ref standing in his/her line of sight, then the ref should ref accordingly. give that choice to the players. I'm sure Peter Ebdon would have other ideas...
Totally agreed with all these comments, absofeckinlutely love watching Ronnie playing at his best, even some of his worst snooker, I don’t like watching Peter Ebdon play, he is not a very good sport, unless he is winning!!
Personally speaking I think Judd Trump and Neil Robertson are the perfect opponents for each other, they are so close in skill level.Unless a moth gets in on the action,😎.
When Ron pots the red before the ref respots the pink, it's not actually a foul shot if he plays the shot when the cueball has already come to rest because it is upto the referee to make sure the pocketed colour is respotted as quickly and accurately as possible within reason. This was always the case and I remember Referee John Street had an article in the old Pot Black Magazine where he discussed that particular topic and stated the rule on it, unless World Snooker have changed the rules since then, then it should not be called a foul imho.
The rule book only states: (They incur penalty points by:) "striking before the referee has completed the spotting of a colour ..." And there is no mention about how quickly the referee should complete the task. So, it is a foul today. The 2014 rule book does not differ in that topic from the current 2019 version.
It gets on my nerves the way they immediately cut away from the table cam after the last shot on a black with the cue ball going all over the place. Like when Mark Allen lost that match
@Roddy Wishart agreed. Similar is when a century is made -- instead of showing what's actually happening on the table, they pan the crowd. This is comparable also to how they show a shot in general: when we look at a player approaching a pot, we can usually figure out where they want the white to be fore the next shot, if they want to canon another ball, or, if there is a danger of that - and they want to avoid it. But instead of showing us a view of all this, they zoom in on the ball going into the pocket, then if we're lucky (and only 'if'), we get to see what the white is up to. This has been the style of coverage since the seventies, it's gimmicky and only show us half the game -- often the less interesting part. With some players they get time to show us a nice replay which includes the journey the white takes -- but with players like Ronnie, Judd, Thepchaiya, there often isnt time for that. Why wont they show us first time round? I sort of understand how that gimickyness evolved, but dont really understand how there has been no backlash against it. Sometimes I think a split screen could be an effective solution, nice seventies detective style. (Apologies for the length of reply.)
No doubt. He denied the audience of a century just because he felt the referee wasn't moving around the table quick enough. I'm mean he's forty plus years now and it seems a bit childish to be honest. I love watching him play but I really would love Ronnie to be able to overcome his bipolar disease and really play the game to his full ability without this small tantrums.
