The thermal representational image at the bottom left of my screen is next to useless because I just don't understand it. I've tried thermalling and trying to match what I have experienced in terms of lift with the rotating "starry" image on the screen and can see nothing helpful. I don't even try to use it ordinarily as my Panel Vario (LXNav S80) displays a ring of coloured beads representing by way of colour and size where the best lift is. However, a recent panel power failure closed the S80 and I was reduced to a basic panel of mechanical ASI, Vario and altimeter. I switched on the XCSoar vario sound and tried to use the screen representation. The sound drove my copilot nearly mad, so it was turned off and the representational image of the thermal did not help, so I had to fall back on my experience of flying without electronic assistance from my panel. XCSoar is so extraordinarily good in most respects that I absolutely love it. I'm just disappointed by my foregoing experiences with the XCSoar thermalling assistant.
The thermal assistant (01:27) of XCSoar is useless. So a bad circle layout that nobody understands should be replaced by a different thickness of the track or something similar.
You're circling hence a circle: the bigger in that section the stronger lift. Even out when it's bigger and you'll be in the core. you're statement is useless and maybe you're the one not understanding it
@@elgandoz I don't think his statement is useless, I think I understand where he's coming from, and you're probably right in that he doesn't understand it. A better representation might improve the situation in a later version.
Make sure the file is saved with extension .xci and copy it into the XCSOAR data folder on your phone. If necessary rename it to thermalAssist.xci and then it will show

I have copied the text and saved it as "thermalAssist.xci" but it is not in the Events box to select? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
