    Something really interesting about Palworld from a design standpoint is that it's not only "Pokemon but ARK" but it's "Pokemon but ARK, if ARK was better, and had Pokemon-inspired stats and interesting individualizing abilities and traits". Pals behave similarly to ARK's creatures, but they come with the added benefit of dynamic behavior and specific use cases, instead of just being inert farm equipment if you're not driving them around. They roam your base, they perform chores, they can have individual strengths and weaknesses and personality traits. Each Pal can have up to four "traits", things like working faster or slower, having bonuses to damage or resistance for a given damage type, having outright boosts to all damage or resistance, being more or less aggressive, having a specialization in a specific kind of labor, etc. Each species also has its own "ability", ranging from buffing other members of the party, to benefiting the player if they're your active partner, being rideable or wieldable with a crafted key item, etc. Got a fire fox? Craft a harness, you can wield it as a flamethrower. Got a gliding manta ray? Craft handles for it, use it as a hang glider. Give a monkey an automatic rifle. Ride a weird beast that looks like a fusion of Entei and Terrakion and it'll keep you warm in cold climates.
    It lacks traditional turn-based pokemon combat and strategic flexibility; it's very much a shooter where combat is concerned. You can't order Pals to use specific attacks unless you're riding them, and they only ever learn three attacks naturally (they're usually done learning everything by Level 15, which is about when the game starts opening up for you), and you can teach them different attacks using TM-equivalent fruits you find by exploring the world (in case they have a trait that boosts the damage of a certain attack type, but they don't learn an attack of that type naturally). Having each Pal defined by traits that are directly tied to what they do gives a greater impression of personality to them, in my experience.
    My Daedream is extremely good at crafting, which makes it very convenient to have with me when I'm making items in bulk. My Celaray loses Sanity (happiness) very slowly, which is ideal for long adventuring trips while using it as a glider. You also need to actively tend to their needs; they need food and rest, and can develop illnesses and injuries if they're not given proper attention and living conditions. They'll refuse to work or cooperate with you if they're unhappy or unhealthy.

      A handful more reasons why Pokémon could learn a thing or two from this game

      @@inktendo Recognition ; ; Thanks, Ink. It's definitely a very interesting game. Rough around the edges, but very promising, both as a survival crafting exploration game, and as a game that looks at what Pokemon could be.
      If the genre isn't your thing, I'd recommend watching gameplay first, and/or waiting until the game has been updated further with more content you're interested in. As the game is, though, despite being in early access, I'd say it's more than worth the price, and being most comparable to ARK, it surpasses that game's gameplay experience in a multitude of ways. To its credit, it already has more content and quality of life features than some games of the genre that have been in development for years and cost double. It's somewhat shallow, but cohesive, and nothing really feels "incomplete" as much as it can just feel overly simple.
      Regardless of the game's long-term success, it's demonstrated that Pokemon could learn a lot from it and games like it, especially for the purpose of expanding the already well-loved formula from Legends Arceus.

      NOTE: Apparently you can't edit pinned comments. I was wrong about Pals only being able to know 3 moves ever. They can in fact learn more, but it seems to be uncommon and starting at or beyond Level 20. You can swap their active attacks out at any time, and it seems that they automatically swap out attacks for better options.

      Comparing this game to ark in every way you have shows you genuinely don't know how ark works, and you are purely basing this on fantasy of what you think/remember ark being like. Side by side these games are next to nothing alike apart from sharing the same type of "technology" trees and overall survival mechanics that are in almost every survival game at this point. Palworld is INCREDIBLY casual compared to ark to the point where I would barely consider it a survival game. I like palworld and I don't even play ark that much anymore but even I wouldn't compare those two games together as they are NOTHING ALIKE.
      For example, Ark dinosaurs are actually treated as animals that can die and can be lost forever due to own player negligence making it harder to just keep them around. In palworld your pals are basically invincible taking away any form of difficulty or consequence. You can just throw them in your box and let them come back to life and you end up with so many boxes filled with pals to the point where they aren't even "pets" or "animals" working in tandem with you like in ark and instead they are pretty much just collectibles.
      My point is the only similarities between ark and palworld is the UI. Thats it.

    • @Noojtxeeg
      @Noojtxeeg Год назад +4

      Copying ideas is not bad, but it does help the competition realize that the players hunger for more than the same thing every generation.
      Palworld isn't anywhere near as bad when you compare it to all the street fighter clones in the 90s and all the FPS games in the 2000s. Pokemon did have other creature catching competition, like Dragon Quest Monsters, Digimon, Monster Rancher in the past, but they've all fallen out of relevancy by comparison which is why Game Freak has been getting away with releasing subpar games the last few generations.

    One thing to note is that palworld had its first trailer in 2021 and already had all the mons people are saying was AI generated. Generative ai didn't really kick off until 2022 and it was truly usable until 2023 which is a very fast progression but means that there's discrepancies here. This means they likely had all the models made during 2020 since you dont just make em all overnight, even with AI. Not only this, Game Freak's CEO has came out in favour for AI and NFT's. Im not saying i support AI and NFT's, but theres clearly a lot of people who are one sided here. Not YOU specifically, but people in general. If people have integrity, they will also boycott pokemon

  • @sugar1905
    @sugar1905 Год назад +3

    I'd like to point out that the discourse surrounding use of AI in Palworld is based on speculation, and the accusations of fan design theft have either been discredited by Pal designs having been revealed before the suspected sources, or are based on very generic or easily-repeated designs (or have been made by people seeking clout who themselves stole the design to begin with). Pocket Pair have worked with AI in the past, but none of the devs have said anything to indicate that AI was used at any point in Palworld's development, and there's not yet any evidence of its involvement.
    It's also anywhere between unlikely to impossible for generative AI to have been used to make any of the Pal designs, because it's genuinely not capable of making convincing designs that don't just require an artist's intervention to make them presentable and usable, especially in a development scenario.

    When I started seeing Palworld gameplay pop up, the first thing that came to mind was your previous video, great timing on that! Regarding the genre naming, I see some "monster catching" or "monster collecting" as well, but I also feel it doesn't sound that good, I was thinking about "Pokélike" inspired by the thousands of soulslike games.
    Regarding the gameplay, I felt that althought it is cleared inspired in Pokémon design-wise, the gameplay loop is something very different, so it is a breath of fresh air, but I personally would not like to see that in an official Pokémon game, it would feel to far-fetched to me, but as its own thing is great! Maybe we could expect Legends series to take more of a survival based gameplay and the official franchise to expand on a different way, focused on improving world building and battle mechanics, and (one can hope) some care for the competitive scenario after last year Worlds fiasco.
    Mandei o comentário em inglês pra deixar mais aberto pra geral, mas ótimo conteúdo!
