I’m currently a GS-06 with 23 years of experience in healthcare. I basically just got the job about a month ago which I’m truly blessed. My question to you is when is the best time to negotiate a GS-9 or above? I tried to negotiated the pay,I followed the instructions that you gave on one of your videos and unfortunately, I was turned down. Even though the job posting said that the salary is between $54,000-$67,000 but they said that because I didn’t have any government experience, I couldn’t get a higher pay. But I did have a state job where my salary was actually way more than this, but I was told that they also went into a hiring freeze for a while. Could that be the reason the negotiation failed? The department that currently work in is called community care which is something new in the VA.
How a person put his military service into GS lingo. I retired as an E7 in the Navy and I know it's equivalent to at least a GS7 but I always messages that I don't have the experience or the time for a GS7.
I just applied for a Fed Job with the VA. What a huge pain in the ass. I had sent an email asking about the vax because it says 'you must be fully vaxxed' but did not explain what that meant. I did not get an answer... so I submitted anyway. Deadline was the 3rd of September so I didn't want to miss that. I did not submit a cover letter. Was that a mistake? It was a posting that was a very short window to apply.... From this video it looks like the job offer can be a long drawn out process. So applying now would not be too unreasonable to think I could get a start date next May? My current contract is up May 5, 2025 and I do not want to quit before that or i would be required to pay back the sign on bonus. There are several openings around the country and I am looking to move... so If I screwed this one up, I can have a redo and fix it on the next one. The dates on the others are the end of September.. And I see from this video that it's normal to apply to numerous openings.
You just applied to 1 job.. you need to forget that ever existed and assume you arent going to get it. Do not even ask about a potential start date. That is the name of the game in the federal governent . As far as vaccination status, that depends on which vaccine. Don't worry about submitting a cover letter. I have gotten GS-12 jobs with no cover letter and a 1 page resume that wasn't even federal format.
Also, to add, yes it is normal to apply to more than one opening.. there are people that literally apply to THOUSANDS of openings and do not get anything.
I'm a GS-09 with 13 years of civil service. I'm 35 years of age, when do you recommend I retire to get the most money. By the time I'm 57 I'll have 34 years of service, do all those years count? Or is there a limit for calculating retirement.?
@@armandcuret1, thanks. Also, when you get your first pay check when do you get that extra week that you worked if you worked for three weeks before getting paid?
I can’t believe how many people get referred from what I hear on your episodes. I’ve been applying for roles now just over a year with over 200 applications and not one of my applications have been referred.
That’s what you won’t hear on RUclips..applying to a job on usajobs without an internal hookup is useless. Meaning someone you know inside is or knows the hiring authority for the job announced. So that after you pass the initial resume inspection and you make the cert list. they know to “bring you in for an interview” and then selected for the job. That’s how I got in as well as two of my friends and my cousin.
Start with updating your resume. If you have a 1-2 page resume and more than 5 years of experience in any field, likely you are not listing nearly enough qualifications to get referred.
You need to specifity that if you have 1 year of competitive service as a Veteran you have LIFETIME reinstatement eligibility. The "3 year period" doesn't apply to veterans that have done 1 year of competitve service.
"There is no time limit on reinstatement eligibility for those who either have veterans' preference, or acquired career tenure by completing 3 years of substantially continuous creditable service."

To the nanna that asked about real estate, the VA does acquisitions for vet facilities
How can we do an evaluation and advise on federal resume and job application??

Think of job hunting with the govt like a serial dating show. Thats how it works essentially.

Hello. Does your excepted service factor into retirement?
Yes, it does.

It took me 10 months, 186 applications, and a ton of referrals to finally get my first TJO and FJO. Keep applying and keep improving your resume.
Is a sure thing you can get a job with low risk background check
Is it*
