Thank you Marion! I believe you've really started a viral trend here with your original idea. Thank you for the inspiration. I'm a new subscriber now. 😊
Thank you, I’ve subscribed to you also 🤗🤗🤗 I love that we can all share our ideas, its lovely that credit is given, its much appreciated 🥰🥰🥰@@AnnetteGreen
I was literally JUST watching Marion's videos doing this!! I actually have a mini pancake maker stored away--definitely will have to pull it out now. Great video!!!
Funny, huh? It's going to go viral soon in the crafting community I think. It's reminiscent of the old Melting Pot by Ranger, but far less messy. Thanks for watching!
New subbie from Germany here not only because of this wonderful video, but also because you are so honest to mention that the original idea was from brilliant Marion whose tutorial I saw also. Not many RUclipsrs give credit to the original source which is so unfair. You, however, did and this makes me happy.
Hello and welcome! So happy to have you joining me. I appreciate your comment about giving Marion credit. I realize the crafting community can have a "dark side" where everyone is competing for the credit and the spotlight, but for me it's still a happy, supportive community for the most part and I'm more than happy to give credit where credit is due. We can all learn from one another, right?
to check grain: Cut two items of the same size and shape...draw arrows on them each one different direction .top to bottom, side to side. also put the same marks on your remaining sheet so you can identify which way it will elongate next time and you can see which way your shrunken pieces elongate. Luck all around.
I think those blobs look like coral at the bottom of the sea. Stick a fish on it and it will be beautiful!🤣 place it in your cruise journal. Love this idea.❤
Thanks Celine. I hadn't thought or used Shrink Film in a long time either, but I love how easy it is to do in this little pancake maker. It was too much trouble before, and now it's super easy and fun!
Wonderful video, Annette!!! Absolutely love the tiny scissors and the mini pancake maker. Way too cute! Love all the projects you did. The bee is beautiful. Thank you and take care.
This is so cool! A few days ago I watched another RUclips experimenting with the mini pancake maker with the shrink film and all kinds of die cuts. She had seen Marion’s RUclips as well and I then watched hers too….amazing! Of course I had to buy a mini pancake maker to try it out. I noticed you had embossed Devid’s feather die from his new ECD collection and that is one I had planned on embossing in my mini pancake maker. I was hoping to have tried this out already but I just haven’t had a chance. It looks so fun! I loved your multicolored bee….that was my favorite too! Thanks so much for sharing this super cool way of embossing and using shrink foil…love it! 🥰
I feel like the entire crafting community is going to end up with a mini pancake maker in their craft room once this catches on. I have only seen one other crafter and Marion doing this. Same as you, likely. The feather looks really great with this technique, I agree. So I hope you get a chance to play with yours soon too. Thanks Belinda.
That was such fun to see all the different things you can do with that pancake maker. I like to work at night and for embossing that would be great because I can't use by embossing gun then. That bee came out very nice.
If you put it directly in the bottom without the paper, you would have to wait until it cooled down entirely to take it out. This way you can take out the paper to cool and move to the next one. Also, if any of the ink sticks to the bottom, it would not be on a disposable paper, but have to be wiped out of the machine (And perhaps not noticed until it gets on your next thing)
Thanks, wasn't that cool? I have been experimenting more and more lately and learn something new each time. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
I went to my walmart and they didn't have it. A week later, I was at a thrift store and I found it for $4.99! It's exactly like yours. Woot woot. Can't wait to try this method. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Catherine. I have Marion to thank for this idea, and I believe she is also in the UK, so you may check her channel to see if she links to one there.
YES! That's exactly what I thought. I had the melting pot years ago and had fun experimenting with that too. This method is much neater and easier clean-up.
I have been watching Marion as well. I love what you both have done. I had ordered some shank film from the UK. Was in the process of playing with it when your video came up. Thank you both. I love the technique.
Annette, this technique is amazing! I actually saw this on another you tube channel, but it was not nearly as in depth and informative as your video! Love your process and ideas!! I think I need one of those mini pancake makers!! So fun😊
That bee came out great! I recently got one of those pancake makers and this is giving me some ideas! I hope you'll do more of these using it on various materials!
What a clever idea. I only have a few of these. Who knew you didn't have to burn your fingers anymore. LOL Thanks for sharing. Going to have to get some shrink sheets and try.
I bought myself one of those mini pancake makers for embossing. And I was thinking about giving it a try it with (shrink) plastic, just to see if it would work. 😊 Thank you for doing it for me.
This looks like fun. I haven't used shrink plastic, but I think I need to try it. I really love the embossing powders. We're all going to head to Walmart. 😄
Thank you so much Annette, I really really enjoyed watching you create all these amazing and wonderful pieces with the mini pancake maker. The bee 🐝 was my absolute favourite too. I’ve also seen Marion playing too. Both of you are great crafters. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤
What great fun, off to find a mini pancake maker, love this hands free method..... the bee would be gorgeous on the shrink art using alcohol inks and dispersed with a spritz of alcohol 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Great video!! Thank you so much for all that you shared!! I might have thought that I did something wrong if you hadn’t shown the part where you trimmed it up! Ordered stuff! Can’t wait to play!! This reminds me of being a child and playing in a mini kitchen!!💕
Thanks so much! I hope you have as much fun with yours as I did. I'm still playing with different ideas, powders and options. It's even just a great alternative to simple embossing, rather than using that blasting heat tool of mine.
This is such an amazing project! Thank you so much for sharing 🥰 I want to make earrings too out of some of these! Off to buy a pancake maker and shrink plastic 😅
I give Marion all the credit for this genius idea. I knew of the mini pancake makers and such, but would never have thought to use it in the craftroom this way. Isn't it fun to learn something new?!
Thank you for the amazing idea, I will definitely give it a try. Also, I think the circular shape didn't shrink circular due to uneven heat on the surface. Irregular shapes you don't notice it, but the places that have more heat shrink more and faster. When you apply patches with a regular iron, the heat is not the same as the one when you use a professional press iron. But I think the idea is great, if you don't say it, people wouldn't even notice that the shape is a little different. Thanks again. I subscribed. 😊
Hi, welcome and thanks for subscribing! I'm going to do a bit more experimenting. You may be right about the heat distribution. After all, the pancake maker is a cheap little gadget, so it's probably not perfect. Thanks for the tips there.
Girls, I do not have the experience as both of you, but I'm a very picky observer. My opinion about the irregular oval shrinking from the round original one depends on *what's in the interior* stamped on the circle due more ink in on side than the other. I'd try a plain circle or a mandala ( very regular + equidistant holes also!)stamp to check this feeling of mine. (Sorry for my second language English in order the explain myself🤦♀). Best regards, from(BRA)💛💚🐝 BTW: TFS..... I'm learning a lot with all of U!!!!
I didn't read all the comments but they tell you that you must cut shrink plastic in one direction because it does distort at different angles. They suggest you test it cut at 0 degrees and one at 90 degrees and one will be a circle.
Some years ago, I stumbled on the info that #6 plastic can be shrunk (a lot of my grocery and lunch containers were #6 - look for the number embossed into the plastic). But I also learned that, unlike shrinky dinks (and you can still get them), the plastic for containers would get stretched more in one direction than another, and that it "remembers" this when you shrink it, leading to uneven shrinkage. I saw people drawing rulers on the #6 horizontally and vertically and then shrinking to see how it would change size in each direction. I suspect the plastic you were using might shrink differently in different directions - you could do the ruler test to see. This wouldn't be as obvious for other shapes, as it seems to be just a little off. Might be a totally different reason but I thought I'd mention this
Shrinky dink also would shrink in one direction more than the other, so we always considered that when using it. I had forgotten that until i saw her oval.
Thanks great video - I am ordering the mini pancake maker.😊 Just a suggestion - maybe just pullout the parchment paper leaving the piece on that parchment paper and then use another parchment paper on top to push flat - will save time when still warm to get flat the shrink plastic flat?
Thanks Jane. The pancake maker is for making pancakes originally, but clever Marion figured out this great idea for crafting. I will NOT be using mine for food now that I've used plastic and powders in it.
WOW! Great video learned a lot, was not sure about using the card stock , so happy I came across your channel have Subscribed to your Channel. Thank you so much for Sharing!!!! Liz 😊💕
Like tissues being called Kleenex, Shrinky dinks are a brand and shrink plastic is the type of product whatever the brand. Just heard of this and came here after seeing Els from Elizabeth Crafts use this method to shrink. I'm going to be looking into getting one of these little machines!
Right. Exactly. And you should look into getting one soon because it sounds like they're getting hard to find now that us crazy crafters have discovered this new use!
the person who said shrink plastic has a grain somewhat is right...but possibly your circle clung to the sheet you had it on...maybe a non stick base would help...this was a great shrinky info video...one of my favorite processes that you took to a completely different level.
That is so helpful. Thank you. I'll try cutting a non-stick craft sheet instead of parchment and see how that works. I'll also look at the "grain" of the shrink plastic. So happy you enjoyed the video!
Shrink film has a grain of sorts meaning that it will tend to shrink more on one axis than the other, it's more noticeable on a circle than on other shapes. 🙂
Very cool, especially the bee. I’m surprised that you can continue to reheat the first layers of the embossing powders since you can overheat them when doing sentiments, etc. for cards. 🤔
Is this pancake maker trapping the piece in one area? If it's pinning down the plastic that might explain the oval shape? How big is the gap between the two plates? Is it exactly level? Maybe try putting parchment on top too, to keep the pieces flatter, then when you whip out the sandwich of parchment papers, you can press immediately on top to flatten it straight away, rather than wasting a few seconds trying to get paper on top to flatten, because it may be too cool already. You can probably flatten a ton of these at once between parchment by ironing them. In fact...you could do them in hair straighteners! 😳😳😳 Oooh I'm gonna experiment using my straighteners! Could probably melt embossing powder and shrink plastic too! 😲 Thanks for the ideas! 😁😁😁
I should be thanking YOU for the ideas! My pancake maker doesn't quite touch when the lid is closed, so I will have to try the method of putting a piece of parchment on top, then flattening while it's still warm. As for the oval, I suspect, as many viewers have, that there might be a grain to the shrink plastic, so I will have to do some more experimenting on that.
I watched Marion’s original video and bought a mini pancake maker straight away. Just wonder if I used Tim Holtz sanding discs, on one side of the shiny shrink film, if that would work. 😊
I heard a long time ago shrinks dinks days that there is a directional grain. One way cutting will show a different shape versus the other way. Hope I said that right.
Irnos días recién la descubrí y me encanta su manera de trabajar y lo bello que le queda todo pero quería saber bajo qué nombre buscar la cucharita y donde la puedo encontrar sería muy amable de su parte no está en la cajita de descripción por favor
I had to use Google Translate, so I hope this comes across properly: ¡Gracias! Es muy divertido experimentar y espero que lo pruebes. La cuchara Tonic es perfecta. Aquí hay un enlace a eso en mi página de favoritos de Amazon: a.co/d/gDp0iXv
It's quite small after shrinking (and thick) and my crop-a-dile is the only tool I own that could get through it, but even the smallest hole would be too big. That's why you should punch it first. Then the hold also shrinks. If I had a small drill, I think it would work, but not sure if it would be too brittle. Something to consider trying for sure.
Thank you so much for the mention Annette, I’m so glad you got inspired, it’s so much fun and so much cleaner than my pouncing technique 😂😂🥰🥰🥰
Thank you Marion! I believe you've really started a viral trend here with your original idea. Thank you for the inspiration. I'm a new subscriber now. 😊

I've purchased 16 different pots of embossing powder since I saw Marion's video! Thanks for sharing additional experiments, Annette!
Oooh have lots of fun 🥰🥰🥰@@kristenbradsethchristianse371
LOVE ITTTTT!!!!!!!
Love Marion Emberson….she makes me laugh
I know, right? Me too!
Thanks so much for this Annette. If your piece of melted embossing powder cracks you can put it back in briefly and it should melt together again x
Thanks for watching and for that little tip!

Great idea!! Thanks1
👍
I love this idea! It’s like having a mini oven on your desk. And you don’t have to heat up your full size oven to shrink the shrink plastic.❤
Exactly! Very portable, very convenient!
Back in the day we used sandpaper on the shrink plastic to get the matte look and help the colors stick better
Yes, I remember that!
I haven’t thought of shrink plastic in ages. Great idea. Love love the mushrooms but I agree. The bee is stunning! Thanks for sharing.

Running to Walmart! Thanks!!!!
Hope you have fun making yours too!! Thanks!
Really fun technique. Came out really great. Looking forward to next week's video. 😀 ❤❤

Just awesome to see how it works. I am very excited to see how your new serie will be.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I can't wait to share my new release!
Very interesting effects!!! Love the BEE!!! Thank you for sharing - who would of thought of a pancake maker for art!!!!
I know, right? I love learning some new things from other crafters. Thanks for watching again this week, Cheryl.
Love all of your inspiration!-Carleen K
Thanks so much Carleen! This year's weekly format has been very fun for me too. Thanks for watching again.

Awesome! And ooh, you're a beekeeper! How wonderful. Thank you from one bee-lover to another.
You can also use a coffee cup warmer to do this
It takes a longer time
I wondered.@@Animalloverkk
I used it because I didn't have a heat tool
Oh! I hv one of those! Thx:)
Let me know how it works
First time I have seen this technique and is very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! It's genius what Marion came up with. Thanks for checking it out.
such a great class! love your new class changes. Such fun
Thanks so much. So happy you're enjoying this crafty series. Thanks for being here again.
What a fab technique! Absolutely love the bee! 🐝 Right now to search for a mini pancake maker in the UK!! 😂💝
Thanks so much Catherine. I have Marion to thank for this idea, and I believe she is also in the UK, so you may check her channel to see if she links to one there.
I live in Germany and bought one at Amazon
Fun techniques, reminds me of the Suze Weinberg melt pot from years ago. I will need to dust mine off and see what results I get. Thanks for sharing 💖
YES! That's exactly what I thought. I had the melting pot years ago and had fun experimenting with that too. This method is much neater and easier clean-up.
Marion is the best. Haven’t tried the shrink plastic. TFS
I'm glad I found her. I hope you give the shrink plastic a try. So much fun!

Thanks. I hope you give it a go. Super fun and slightly addictive. Have a great time experimenting!
These are amazing! Thank you for the inspiration. I’ve gotten loads of shrink paper from my mom. This is a fun new way to use it!
Thanks! Try it and have fun!
Lol i just ordered the same to play with in a video and than i saw yours 😂😊

I'm curious what you mean by "card cutouts"?
This is such an amazing project! Thank you so much for sharing 🥰 I want to make earrings too out of some of these! Off to buy a pancake maker and shrink plastic 😅
Thanks so much! I hope you got your pancake maker and are having fun with it already.

I didn't read all the comments but they tell you that you must cut shrink plastic in one direction because it does distort at different angles. They suggest you test it cut at 0 degrees and one at 90 degrees and one will be a circle.
Thank you. Yes, a few have suggested that so I'll be trying that for sure.
Some years ago, I stumbled on the info that #6 plastic can be shrunk (a lot of my grocery and lunch containers were #6 - look for the number embossed into the plastic). I am definitely going to experiment with this to see if there is a specific grain. Thanks for the tips.

Love the bee they look super cool. Is pan cake maker anew craft tool or one cooking. Have a good week. 😊❤
Thanks Jane. The pancake maker is for making pancakes originally, but clever Marion figured out this great idea for crafting. I will NOT be using mine for food now that I've used plastic and powders in it.
Love the bee!
Thanks! It was pretty cool to experiment with!
So fun!
Yes, quite fun!
Thank you. I like your style.
Well thank YOU very much. Thanks for watching.
Love this.

Thank you and welcome! So happy you're here and enjoyed this video. This pancake maker is a game changer for me and my embossing.
Reheat the cracked one, it should heal. Or stack something on the crack!
Stack on the crack! Got it! Thanks.
Most shrink film will shrink more in one direction than the other so the final oval shape is normal for the material
Wow Bee is beautiful
Thanks so much Kathy! That's definitely a favorite!

This is so fun! Can you add embossing powder to the shrink items before they are shrunk?
Thanks. That I haven't tried, so I will see if that works.
@Annette Green,
Instead of cutting and using parchment paper, could you use a cut out silicone mat and it would last forever???
Yes, I saw Els Van de Burgt use that in hers and since then, I have purchased a mat just for this purpose and am using it now. Works great!
Awesome
Thanks so much! It's super fun!
Interesting!!
Glad you think so! Thanks for watching.
Wow!!
So much fun!
thank You
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching.
Would the cracked splotch re-form if you place it back in the pancake maker? Thanks for the demo!
Yep, it sure would! And I could add to it with more powders and fill in those gaps too.
Thanks for sharing. I looked up her video :)
She's really started something! The mini pancake maker market has probably exploded.
On the piece that cracked, I bet you could sprinkle more embossing powder on damaged area & reheat.
Yep, I bet you're right about that. Thanks!
the person who said shrink plastic has a grain somewhat is right...but possibly your circle clung to the sheet you had it on...maybe a non stick base would help...this was a great shrinky info video...one of my favorite processes that you took to a completely different level.
Thank you for that! That is very helpful indeed. I will experiment more and see if I can get a proper circle.
Very cool, especially the bee. I’m surprised that you can continue to reheat the first layers of the embossing powders since you can overheat them when doing sentiments, etc. for cards. 🤔
I know. I'm not sure if it's the temperature or what, but you really can't overheat these if you watch your timer.
Silhouette cutter also cuts shrink plastic.
Cool, good to know. Thanks!
The top of the pancake maker is raised up, or recessed, so it doesn't touch the item.
Makes sense! Thanks.
Oooh I'm gonna experiment using my straighteners! Could probably melt embossing powder and shrink plastic too! 😲
Thanks for the ideas!
Possibly, I'm not sure. Give it a try and let me know.
Back in the day I used the old electric skillet to melt shrinky dinks
We crafters make do with what we have! What a great idea. I started with the Melting Pot many many years ago.
I heard a long time ago shrinks dinks days that there is a directional grain. One way cutting will show a different shape versus the other way. Hope I said that right.
Yes, and I need to do a test to see which way the grain is. I've heard that several times now. Thanks.
Irnos días recién la descubrí y me encanta su manera de trabajar y lo bello que le queda todo pero quería saber bajo qué nombre buscar la cucharita y donde la puedo encontrar sería muy amable de su parte no está en la cajita de descripción por favor
I had to use Google Translate, so I hope this comes across properly: ¡Gracias! Es muy divertido experimentar y espero que lo pruebes. La cuchara Tonic es perfecta. Aquí hay un enlace a eso en mi página de favoritos de Amazon: a.co/d/gDp0iXv
I wonder if my candle/coffee warmer plate will get hot enough for this trick. I think it's under the sink, wish me luck...I'm going in..
Let us know!
Bonita idea!
En dónde se puede comprar ese Mini Pancake Maker?
I got mine from WalMart here in the States, but also a similar one is on Amazon. Here's that link: a.co/d/il0PtQn
I use the skins on the front of cards. But using the pancake maker would save my heat guns and my fingers.
By skins do you mean the pieces that are just cooked blobs?
Has anyone tried putting embossing powder in salt shaker? Wondering if that would work easier.
Hmmm, that's an idea, but I would think it might be a little harder to control. But try it and let me know!
That first embossed pliable item can be placed on a card. Thanks
Yes!
is there a specific side you should stamp on, on the shrink film?
They don't specify on the packaging, but I like to stamp on the smooth side and color on the rough side.
@@AnnetteGreen Thank you 🥰
The ovals are still cute. Just don’t tell anyone they’re supposed to be circles.
I won't if you don't 😉
Why couldn’t you punch a very small hole through the plastic once it’s shrunk?
It's quite small after shrinking (and thick) and my crop-a-dile is the only tool I own that could get through it, but even the smallest hole would be too big. That's why you should punch it first. Then the hold also shrinks. If I had a small drill, I think it would work, but not sure if it would be too brittle. Something to consider trying for sure.
Maybe it is a bit more hot on one side and it you turned it early on, it might not have been an oval?
I think you may be right about that. I'll experiment more soon and test that out. Thanks!
