- Normally the title of the video describes its content. In this case it is also like that. It's very clear: "Ragnar Lothbrok's Death Song". Don't whine after seeing it completely, saying: it's spoliler
Lyrics
Eigi hugðak orma
at aldrlagi mínu;
verðr mjök mörgu sinni
þats minnst varir sjálfan
Nú munk nár af bragði
ok nær dýrum deyja
Gnyðja mundu grísir
ef galtar hag vissi
mér er gnótt at grandi
grafa inn rönum sínum
ok harðliga hváta
hafa mik sogit, ormar
nú munk nár af bragði
ok nær dýrum deyja
I did not look to a snake
to be my bane
things happen very often to one
that one thinks of the least.
Soon now will my body
die among the beasts.
The young pigs would squeal
if they knew the state of the boar
of the injury done to me
Snakes dig in my flesh
stab at me harshly
and have sucked on me
soon now will my body
die among the beasts
Not ashamed that as a grown man I cried when he died and really thought he went to Valhalla. His acting skills are unrivaled and he is terribly underrated. Hail king Ragnar!!!

Correct but those who glean power for the right reasons on award of that power(from the democratic peoples vote) are either swayed with coin or death....such is/and always has been the worlds fate.

Oh how the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered. Rip Ragnar Lothbrok
The deaths of Ragnar and Bjorn are the most powerful and emotion evoking of anything ever done on American TV.
And the death of Ivar too !
@Thomas Newsom
There is nothing American about it. It was written and created by a Briton for the Canadian History Network and recorded in Ireland.
Lagartha's death and fare well was epic as well.
*shown on American TV i guess is the correct phrase? :)
Im grateful to you americans for making movies like this but afterall many of you share my ancestry. I read somewhere that about 8 million americans should have more or less swedish blod and if we count all who have norwegian, danish or mayby ewen icelandish blod to that number i think we get a lot of americans with viking ancestry. Mayby not so strange that you guys are intrestred in our history.

He is not in Valhalla coz he died without a fight, without a weapon. He is with Hel. Ofc if u believe in that mythology.
KnjazGromowladny you obviously know not of which you speak. He died willing to fight. His life was full of battle. He would be in Valhalla
Not true. Much like the blood eagle, his death was slow and painful and he refused to cry out.
KnjazGromowladny I thought entry to Valhalla wasn't necessarily for those who Died in combat but to those worthy. In the mythology I thought not all of those who died in battle was worthy of entry I think it was more of a glory thing and ragnar would be worthy of Valhalla. Especially since he didn't die a coward or as an oathbraker
KnjazGromowladny that's incorrect. The "rules" aren't so strict. It's simply up to Odin and the the Valkyries. It's not so cut and dry like Christian religion.
Love this show and my Scandy roots. Watching the series for the 5th time now. I discovered this show 4 years ago after an accident that nearly killed me. While rehabbing and trying to heal, this show gave me some inner strength to get better. Can’t wait for the prequel series to Vikings, Vikings Valhalla.
Yes. That happened to me, too.. Only that I still miss my man so much! And Ragnar was very 'smart', in his last act, too...😬🤫😐😰🤐🙏💝

Just watching this gives me goosebumps. The best show EVER. I fell in love with Ragnar Lothbrok. I don't know how many times I wanted to be there and live beside his glory. I cried so much when he died..I cried heaps all throughout this series. So poignant and heart breaking, I actually thought Ragnar would come back into the show, and it was never the same without Ragnar Lothbrok. 🥺😥
They killed him off to soon what I didn’t understand was after the second defeat in Paris when Ragnar was lying in boat battered the show suddenly jumped forward years I think they could of done more with Ragnar up to this point , it then was not the same without Ragnar.

@@TheVist7 I agree with the TheVist7 there was no point in continuing the show beyond the point that Ragnar's sons avenge Ragnar's death, it was my favorite show of all shows and will probably always remain my most favorite show for I re watched it so many times but the fifth season felt like they were trying to squeeze an orange that simply did not have anymore juice in it.
@@yuvalvernik9483 I agree to you with the orange but not at you and TheVis7. my feeling about getting boring was already starting in series 4 ! 10 instead of 20 episodes were better. but ok, it is a series, a TV series... it has its own education, better than no "vikings" to watch.
but to let you know, it is called Vikings and not "Ragnar". his sons were more famous in history. the producers squeezed more than 150 years of history in this series now - and mixed a lot...and there is a lot open until 1066. they cannot let live Ragnar for all the Viking time.
hey i *know* at some point the dude's gonna die, but i'm looking forward to seeing how his son Ivar fares. And of course there's also Bjorn and Floki. all i know is they make it to season five lol

Unfortunately with the historical timeline it was going to happen. I think the actor who plays Ubba was uncanny to Ragnar and sometimes it was like watching Ragnar himself

It was a good thing that Ragnar died. By dying he really became a legend, thus immortal.
This song is so ethereal and heart touching. Cried when watching Ragnar's death the first time.
This is one of my favorite shows, the actor who played Ragnar did something truly great. You grew to like him a lot, saw what he went through, how he rose. A perfect story.

@@devinwhite5064 i don't think it is death we are afraid of, to be exact there really is'nt anything to be afraid of. either it is nothing in which case we do not experience that. or it's heaven in which case it will be more peaceful then here. i think the thing people are really afraid of is saying goodbye
No, it’s not like that for me. I love life, I revel it intensely. And I can’t help but believe that death is just the End of my conscious experience, like turning off the electricity... and that terrifies me. I do not want my consciousness to end, to be experience-less. I’ve tried to convince myself to believe something, anything, else, but I can’t. No matter how badly I desperately wish there was another truth that I could seek comfort it, it’s a belief that lives in the deepest part of my core, and I can’t deceive myself. To me, there is no heaven- only the sick, sinking feeling of succumbing to some Great Erasure so that the particles that made up my body may again be recycled back into the universe for some other purpose that essentially means nothing to me because I won’t BE. Kind of makes one feel like having a sentient consciousness is altogether pointless. Why do we as humans think that because we are capable of complex thought and intense emotion, that just because we become moved by witnessing our own supposed depth, that there will be something special waiting for us when our team biological machines cease to function? For all we know, we’ve only developed such mental capacities because our species just happened to avoid extinction for long enough to allow them to develop. But I have to remind myself that just because I’m bothered by some unavoidable belief of my hypothesis of the Truth, I still have no more proof or justified certainty of its validity than any other human being. And I guess that’s where I find my minuscule crumb of hope... in the fact that I certainly could be completely wrong.
easy mate, its just a tv show.
that touch my soul evry time when i listen to that song cry and start think about my death and how much i love die like a warrior but i think that's its impossible in peace age .

I hope that the real creators don't stick to the reality, and he will return somehow. He's FUCKIN SON OF ODIN
It would be a fcking surprise !!!
Most of the show is not based on reality anyway
hasoy. the show is mainly based on reality first off. Only some twists to make it interesting that's all.
FreaackyFreeky Well, the story of Ragnar is not documented. But, lets say he existed, still .. the story as a whole is a combination of stories. Rollo and Ragnar did not live at the same timeline.
his sons were real tho and we know little about them not sayin ragnar wasent
Ragnar Lothbrok was a man in a different time? But damn if we don't need men like that this in this day and age? Right, wrong who can say, but Honor in a man will never die, if he can keep it!
What Honor did he have? He killed the man that brought news of Ecberts betrayal, hid it from his people, all to raid Paris instead of retribution. He succumbed to the trappings of power, and allowed it to corrupt him. Everything he did up to that point, was honorable, the minute he killed that man, everything he did was in vain, everything he put his hand to became failure from that point forward.
In the end, he lost his wives, his sons, and his Gods, and died alone.
It gladdens me to know that Odin makes ready the benches for a banquet. Soon we shall be drinking ale from the curved horns. The champion who comes into Valhalla does not lament his death. I shall not enter his hall with words of fear upon my lips. The Æsir will welcome me. Death comes without lamenting. Eager am I to depart. The Valkyries summon me home. I laugh as I die.
I knew about the stories of Ragnar before the show. Still didn’t make it any easier. Damn good show.
