That Star Trek breakdown 3:30 happened because the BBC used to edit the film prints so that the theme tune came at the start (not after the pre-credits sequence) then run the edited prints through telecine at transmission. And sometimes the film edit broke with the result you can see.
@@jonkasonic It was film editing, which involves cutting the film and joining the two bits together with glue - though I think I remember hearing they tried using a paperclip instead. Had they telecine'd the edit to tape, the break could have been fixed - but not when it was put it to air live from the telecine.
Ahh see this is a cool thing about analogue editing when you only know how to edit digitally. It blows my mind a little that they'd use glue for editing, and also because I know about using tape for editing audio. I assumed that you'd use edit tape on video too... but that would be silly though right? Because you'd not see through editing tape?
I remember seeing a clip of the incident on one of the Box channels, where about 15 seconds of Save Your Tears by The Weeknd kept looping for an hour. Great video as always!
Yeah I've heard of that one from a few places. What I find annoying is that I remember seeing loads about this topic at the time, but a lot of it has gone.
We could really use a revival of the technical difficulties bumper here in the States. All we get is the default channel bumper for if no local commercials are available or a rollover to a streaming channel (if like me, you watch TV with RUclips TV)
A weird that happened during this is when Channel 4 took their All 4 channel feeds off air, they used these slides, with off air in airquotes alongside the channel name. Is it really off air is it…”Off-Air”? We’ll never know. (well we do know but All 4 thought we didn’t)
I remember this happening, let's just say I was not best pleased by the fact that Ed Sheeran somehow made it onto Kerrang. Wasn't there a 15 second loop of Save Your Tears by The Weeknd, the chorus of the song? In pure Milli Vanilli fashion. Instead of "girl you know it's true" stuck on a loop, it was "save your tears for another day".
Ha! Ed Sheeran on Kerrang when hell freezes. I think I actually had covid over that period so don't remember much other than being fed up feeling bad. I remember seeing a lot about it and unfortunatly a lot of the footage and clips I remember seeing I can't find any more. Maybe if i did a bit more of a deep dive on newspapers websites or forums or something
God I remember Red Bee like it was yesterday. It was so interesting to say the least. I also feel like the DR Mode would be use incase of a zombie outbreak or nuclear war too
It's cool :) yeah I am trying to find the right sound, and I do like it to have a compressed sound but any feedback on whether it's too much is always cool. I am going for a radio sound for these videos to add some character but I will have a look at my settings and dial it down a bit :)

That's a cool fact. I don't know how that would have been edited together but could that have been down to the edit tape they used?

Red Bee are also like, The Major Provider of subtitling for UK channels, as well as their production/broadcast side.
I like how you cover British TV history in a funny way.

A technical fault would be a improvement over many of the TV programmes these days
There should be just a Technical problems channel. Just like there should be a non stop loop of the test card and Ceefax with music

Love the info about Disaster Recovery and the one F-word!

Looking forward to the Crowdstrike outage video.

Can you explain something about rock music on TV for episode 19?
I had no idea about this incident. This was really interesting.
Computer Tom scares me though. I play Pac-Man in fear that he’ll show up now.
Thanks for the link!
Loved the intro. Oh and eggs
Will you do some on sky box office in 90s please
Hmm... I will have a think, because there was also Sceneone and similar channels that I could bundle it up with :)
@@jonkasonic ok I remember sky box office for wrestling and steps live music

GMB went off air due to a fire on 25th March 2016.
Your insanely over-processed audio makes for an unpleasant listen, but I enjoy your content 👍
its great, it sounds like a radio broadcast
after 25 years working in FM commercial radio I know when the compression is just a… little… too much 😂 no offence intended

@@jonkasonicFor what it's worth, I like your audio - very different to anything else on RUclips and seems to fit your channel in a strange way.
dont change a thing @@jonkasonic, the heavy compression gives your voiceover a refreshing energy!
