The iconic lillybulero signature tune and This is London (radio call) will always give goosebumps in a positive to those who were a part of listening SW bandwidth across the world! My favourite was Radio Moscow World Service (English service) for two reasons first one of their iconic signature tune (Moscow nights) and the music!! Thank you for posting this document it was delightful to hear the distorted analogue radio broadcast from a bygone era! A fan and an admirer from Pakistan!
I'm from Ireland and Shortwave was very musch a part of my childhood too. I love this stuff. I used to think that Tirana, Belgrade and Warsaw were all so exotic back in those days.
I miss those dreary days in the jungle of Borneo in the early 1990s when my small SW radio was my window (fastest source of news)to the world. BBC World Service was a constant companion. The Colombia disaster, The Iraq War, Bosnia, 911 - heard them all first on BBC WS radio.
If anyone's wondering the Russian announcement music is the prince of denmarks march, specifically Wood's version, and the radio newsreel intro music is a march called "Imperial echoes".
The sooner they bring back "This is London" and a Full Blast of Lillybulero the better...Iconic ..rather than the boring generic replacement that could be any station...I hope somebody in power has the sense to do it!!
Listened to the BBC WS in Belgium during the 1980s on shortwave. Was an important part of my day. "BBC World Service. The news, read by Pamela Crighton." "This is Tommy Vance with Rock Salad. Music on the heavier side." -Or something to that effect. How about those endless lists of local sports match scores? Tide listings? "The Brotherhood of Brass" 😊

Broadcast on BBC1 Wednesday 8th December 1982
That was amazing and really interesting. I listen to the World Service every day now, fascinating to see its earlier days
every human on this planet may have good memories with the bbc. i used to listen to bbc in arabic.
those were the days. used to listen to the wild service often in the 1980s. on short wave radio.
In the UK the signal was terrible but the domestic BBC seems to think news keeps office hours so I put up with the crackles and fades
Thank you this for this upload David. Wonderful!
I love shortwave radio.
wow! I remember hearing this voice on the BBC growing up in the 90s!

am sad that they stopped the service in arabic. its very sad.
The best part of the BBC
This is amazing!
Wow, I can't imagine allowing smoking in a studio let alone opening a mic without cans on.
Such a shame THAT BBC is no more.
The sooner they bring back "This is London" and a Full Blast of Lillybulero the better...Iconic ..rather than the boring generic replacement that could be any station...I hope somebody in power has the sense to do it!!
Beautifully said. I agree 100%
disagreed.
I definitely miss it: "This is London" and " Full Blast of Lillybulero" tune. Its disappearance at the end 1990s made me shade tears.
@@mutendemuwowo715 Yes ,it's a shame!

Used to listen to Readio Moscow, Iran Radio Moscow used to treport how many tractors were made that day. 1960 70s pure gold
1:10 wow to finally put a face on my favorite continuity announcer !
Who is it? 🤔
Am I right to believe the announcer at the beginning is Keith Bosley? I remember when he retired on air in the realy 90s.
I wonder if Douglas Muggeridge is any relation to old Malcolm.
Can anyone help me out with this tune at 2:52 my childhood memories are embedded in this.
Vinayak Madkaikar it’s lillibulero an Irish jig composed by Henry Purcell in 1689

Is the monitoring station still operational.
PRESSUREWORKS BBC Monitoring left Caversham to be relocated in London in November 2018 after 75 years
David Baldwin thank you.
Is 'Doug' the son of 'Malc'?
I miss John Tidmarsh on Outlook.

I thought that was a young Ragety Omar @ 2:52
4:55 what are you talking about? We no speak English 😂
"One man's gorilla is another man's freedom fighter" lol what?
I remember the BBC almost siding with Polish miners against the state and then doing the exact opposite in Northern Ireland
I used to love the Beeb, but now I know how corrupt it all is I hate it with a passion.
Everyone looks tired and dirty
