Just now (been watching train plowing videos, though). Thought the plow was actually made out of Granite, and I was trying to figure out how THAT worked, and why anyone would do that. Guess it's just the brand-name of the particular truck model. Oh well...
Yeah, I couldn't wait for the details on how -and why- they made the plow with that insane curve out of granite. I stopped watching when they said the truck was a Mack Granite
I know a Mack Granite AWD makes a stout Tanker/Tender for the fire service, 3000gal Water Master and it hasn't got no issues on the Mtn Rds other than some driveways and one lane Bridges.
I know I'm being kinda picky, but your pictures of Valdez were actually the Alyeska Marine Terminal, which is across Valdez Arm (body of water) from the town of Valdez.

Plowing snow is not fun when you have greatly reduced visibility.A good truck and plow assembly is helpful, but when you are flying blind, the truck doesn’t matter much.As a retired plow driver,I don’t miss the job much, but I do appreciate a good plow truck.Nice video and commentary.
There's a FD with a Water Master Vacum Tanker on a Mack Granit AWD. I don't know the stats other than the Auto Trans but that damn Truck will go down the Rd, and up. We live in the Mountains so there's steep areas, it handles em well with 3000Gal on its back.
Macks are the king of off road all weather situations. Wish I could have drove one with air bags. I use to get Fd up in the oil field with them leaf springs but dammit. The truck can take a beating
In Hokkaido Japan there are some roads where they have massive 15+ ft snow walls on the sides of the road, since there's barely any days for the snow to melt.
The dealer I worked for sold 2 of these to Alaska. They are awesome machines. Oh, the mud I had to wash off one of them 😬 dang cool video dude. Some great memories at that dealership. Mack tough baby🇺🇸
Mechanic here. I don't know solid numbers but I'm guessing 300k. The ones I currently work on locally were 260-275k new in 2013. And these aren't 6x6 like the Mack's in this video.
The Mack MP engines have many aftertreatment issues and are a high maintenance issue. Atomization modules fail due to poor air qualities contaminated with moisture.
But now they alphabetical a new wave position that is so efficient at combustion that even after two days of idleing it still wasn’t even halfway to being needed to regen
Almost every highway plow I have ever seen has a snow foil to keep snow in front of it also like here in nh the plow is bigger on one end vs the other so it funnels the snow off the road
I plowed with a 2009 Mack granite, I honestly think Mack is a bit underpowered. The Allison automatic transmission was pretty nice to be honest. The cab in the granite is really roomy and super comfortable. Ny daily driver is a Pete with a fuller 18 speed and 550 horsepower.
heaven forbid ODOT ever have anything like that for the guys/ladies to do there 12/16's with or provide any training on how to use the stuff rather than just the "you figure it out"
That is not that bad. Paradise Lodge at Mount Rainer averages 53' of snow per year. Record there and the world is 102' in one years time. Record for Mount Baker and the world is 95' in one season. Both in Washington State.
RTK GPS that's what the Farmers use for auto steering tractors to plant corn ect.. Not enough snow plows in the World to justify developing this technology .. but between farming .. Excavating and road Construction there are a lot of uses for it ..
Have you ever driven one in white out conditions or when the road and ditch all look the same. Im sure all that tech stuff does not work alll the time either. Its all good til its broke
The only thing I'd prefer in a snow plow, is a combination box, where the sander/spinner is infront of the drive tires. Personally in my experience I prefer to run an Eaton fuller 18 speed manual transmission. There's my 2 cents
I drive heavy wrecker. I take it these have to be towed on a lowboy trailer if one breaks down due to their weight and being all wheel drive. Besides the fact there are snow blades all around the vehicle. Awesome rig.
grainte the name of the truck pushing the snow plow and not what the snow plow is made of!!!!!!!!?????? why is the english language so confuseing, or iis it just me???????
I've worked on all major models and type of plows and underbody scrapers. Monroe surpasses them all. When I see a DOT or airport running Monroe I know they're serious about quality.
I looked to do a "build your own" Mack Granite, and not finding an option other than 6x4. But you said "It's an all-wheel-drive truck of course"... In that case I'd expect a double reduction axle in the front??? Don't TEASE ME.
We have these at PennDOT. They must be nice when the state actually pays for their upgrades cause ours had no power at all and barely any technology to help us.

When you are needlessly traveling on our public road during a weather advisory stay the heck clear of these guys that are working at all hours of the day or night to make our road useable during the winter season. Yeah I was expecting them to have a granite edge on the plow for some reason us 48 contiguous staters wouldn't understand.

No. I see no problem with it, none whatsoever. But you might have an issue getting out of your drive way with something that big in it
