God doesn't see your scars from your past, whether you made mistakes or decisions where made for you. What God sees is your Beauty. He sees you as fearfully and wonderfully made. The talents are representative of measures of faith. And the faith is empty till you fill it with the works of faith. And the works of faith is the acquisition of the knowledge we perish for the lack of the knowledge of faith that gives us the ability to believe in Jesus. And believe in the Father. It's not about doing good deeds for others. It's about walking in the Way in/of Jesus to find the knowledge of God's love in the knowledge of God's Righteousness the truth in Jesus. For some their faith requires more knowledge for their belief in Jesus to be confident in understanding of faithful belief in Jesus. Add to your faith goodness, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love for if you have these qualities in increasing measure they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. All of this is accomplished by walking in the Way in/of Jesus. Hence your point of teaching is in teaching how to walk in the Way in/of Jesus that teaches us the knowledge that fills our faith making possible our belief in Jesus!

"Apart from Me [and My unmerited Grace] you can do nothing [of eternal signifigance]." - Jesus "The Parable of the Mt. 18 Talents" is about the Gal. 5:22-23 supernatural Fruits of the S(s)pirit. The way we can know what impure motives hide in our heart usually unknown to us, is by what we've deduced Mt. 18's "talents" meant to imply. If our idol is the success of a 'natural' talent we've honed, that talent has become an idol. If we infer the talent's parable is about finances, we have the love of the world/money as an idol of the heart. If in ministry or public service and the like, and we believe that is the allegorical talent of God given to us, then that has become our idol. If we've received the Grace of an instantaneously-given fullness of some Fruit of the Spirit, then that is what we see in the talent parable. (But this, too, is in danger of being turned into an idol of the heart, if we rest on our laurels and forget what we were both before and apart from Grace.)
