  • WGA Negotiating Committee Co-Chair Chris Keyser gives an update one month into the Writers Guild strike.
Writers are facing the most comprehensive assault on compensation and working conditions that they have seen in a generation. The studios have taken advantage of the transition to streaming to underpay entertainment industry workers, including writers in every area of work. Like too many working people across our economy, as corporate profits grow, writers are just not keeping up.
To learn more about the WGA strike and why writers say the profession is facing an "existential threat," go to www.wgastrike.org.

Very well stated. Almost like it was written by professional writers. ;)

Thank you, Chris. Listened to this on the way back from the 6-9 shift @ the “neutral” Paramount gate. Inspiring.

Speaking as a (very insignificant) writer who is also an IATSE member in Canada, I remain cheering for you folks. I absolutely agree that you are fighting for many sorts of union membership. I try to remind my coworkers that the asks that you folks lose will trickle down to us in short time, and we haven't the power that you have to hold them at bay.

The writers united will never be defeated. 1:19
The international trade union movement is behind you 100%.
If the distributors don't come to see that stories are not commodities that can be produced, they will run themselves out of business fighting you. Nary a tear shed, but they won't go quietly.
Game of Thrones was a touchstone of popular culture. Yes, production design, the cinematography, the editing and the performances were part of executing successfully it.
The 'it' that was being executed was a great story, written well and passionately, painstakingly turned into an actual watchable piece of media. Until they tried to go without solid writing for whatever reason.
Look at what happened in the space of 6 episodes of on GoT and tell me writing is not the most vital part of the story telling,
How do you teach an industry its only value is in what it helps us see and experience, when there's never been any evidence to the contrary? Proven time and time and time again? We don't envy you your task, but only because it is the same here in Australia.
Especially in light of your Supreme Courts current trajectory. Imagine the fundamentals of democratic rights to congregation and ability to tell passers by why you're there, being so ironically under siege.
Damages for a legal strike action?
Simply because it might cost someone business and ultimately, hypothetically someone on the Supreme bench, money.
They've paid their political debts in your rights. You're Americans goddamnit.
It's time to get off your benches too.

You should watch Guardians 3. It is directly related to the this years strike and my story. All the characters are telling my story. Giving insight into my life because one character is not enough to give insight into the different aspects of my life. I become a The captain in the end. All the different creatures represents all the different labor unions. They stick together till the end. and then Rocket is shown as the Guardian who shows the path to the younger generation. I'll be more broken than all those broken characters combined if my friends dont make me a part of the family.

I hope the WGA will call out on Fox News and Robert Brown (BU's president) as well.
Cause them treating those Boston graduates of 2023 like garbage and lie about them is unforgivable. David Zaslav deserve all those boo's.

Im a member of Iatse 52. We were blindsided by this strike. My union knew since early winter that there were whispers of a potential strike and that producers were stockpiling scripts.
This strike is going into its 5th week but most of our members haven’t worked since December. We usually go on a 1 1/2 - 2 month holiday hiatus and return mid February. My union knew this was a possibility and said nothing.
We have been out of work going on 6 months. These guys/gals are making 10k + weekly. They can afford to not work for months.
There has to be a better way. We need to get back to work. I know members that have exhausted savings over this 5-6 months of not working.
I’m all for their cause but they have to figure this out asap.
