Jack, to be honest, I think you might be looking at things the wrong way. A lot of your viewers came in through the Ferrari and most of them loved watching your videos of working on small things and failing or succeeding at them. Lately, with the Merc and the Lexus, you are talking more about selling the cars than working on them. And I do believe you are selling the work you are doing short. There could be a lot more videos in both these cars, because there are lots of things that other owners are confronted with. The Lexus leather repair would be a great video, as would the interior swap would be. It would be a shame to see the cars go away without being finished. Monetary value on your exact work is not exactly what your channel was built on, so I think that might be something to keep in mind. People just love to watch you get things done. 😉
I’d sell both ! The content has been great on these cars and you’ve done really well but it’s good to see you finding more diamonds in the rough and getting them back on the road again ! 🏴
My Vote, The Bismarck...The market for these are gaining attention daily, and here in Los Angeles, are very unique and desirable auto for the enthusiast.
The Merc is such a massive transformation and you’re on the way to a really nice car so I’d keep that footnote as a W201 owner I might be biased 😉, you’re right about that badge! To be fair the fabric trim makes it more special as many had the leather option.
@@worldhello1234 He's right though . Many people do not wish to be sitting on the flesh of dead animals these days. I recently walked away from a Mini convertible due to it being leather right through. The dealer thought it was great which it is to those who aren't vegans, or animal lovers but I thought it was grossed out.
Hi Jack. Personally I like the Bismerc, the LS is a bit stuffy and boring, a bit of an old giffers car. The Merc has been transformed from a nasty pile to a handsome coupe, and there are still improvements to be made. But when all's said and done, they're your cars. and you should do what you think is best for you. Good luck with your decision. 👍
Got to keep the Merc.... you've nailed the body transformation the interior looks really clean anyway just wants the drive fine tuned and the windows cleaning they are minging lol
Boring oversized Camry on the left (Lexus) or on the right, a classic, handsome W124. Solid and considered the best car in the world. Dude, this isn't even a question and there is only one car you'll miss after it's gone. The Merc is a satisfying car to work on. The build quality and one bit at a time is rewarding. They are also easy to work on. There is NOTHING classic about the Lexus. Yes it's all those things you said but if you want a fully reliable car then get a small Camry and be done. You're a car guy and you've earnt the special right to feel good about the Merc and all the things you do on it going forward. And continually working on cars and telling the stories of that adventure WILL keep us coming back to watch. It works well for Hoovie and it's already working for you. I'm not here because of the Lexus I can tell you. I'm following your adventure with the Merc.
The bonnet emblem is useful. My dad let me drive his Silver Shadow when I was 15.From the drivers seat the flying lady was a great reference to the left hand kerb.
Jack, I have watched your channel from the beginning. I understand you have chosen to make RUclips a full time job. I believe you need to reappraise your approach to this venture. Your subscribers will want to witness completion, not hanging unfinished threads. Both of these cars are unfinished and the economics you call out which is stopping you bring either of these projects to a point of completion is sound. Humbly, I would suggest you embark on projects in the future that can provide your audience with a finished product. Good luck Jack. PS. If you have not already done so, checkout the channel 'Greasy Fingers' - one of the very best car restoration channels.
Only just hit play and not finished the video yet, but gut instinct is to sell Sumo. You’ve made Bismerc your own with all the work put into it. I think you should keep that for a while and enjoy the fruits of your labour.
I’d keep the Benz, see it through, Frau Benz seems to be a great source for info and parts, and the garage that did the inspection. Maybe as a Sumo sweetener throw a few spares like the binnacle in with it, I’m sure someone will find a rusty donor and throw the interior into yours and have a decent car. Merc has way more kerb appeal and in time once finished will give you a fair chunk of change along with the satisfaction of having done the full restoration that you may not have intended but may have envisaged
As a former owner of 2 LS400 (one the exact same colour as Sumo) and now current owner of the LS430 I'd personally keep Sumo as it looks nice and 200,000 miles is nothing for a car of that stature and class it is worth keeping as I think they will become more expensive soon
The Bismerk, “ Job complete” for RUclips. The Lexus, change the dash and sell. The frogeyed sprite, sell if you have to (nothing wrong in keeping it forever in the garage). Move onto the next project👍 You doing a great job 😁
It's got to be best to keep the C124; driving a reasonably priced classic car is massively reliant on access to either used parts or cheap new spares, the Lexus sold in too few numbers to have the availability of either, the Merc is more likely to increase in value too.
Hi Jack keep the BisMerc, what you have done with it is amazing and worth keeping. Got to say with more improvement videos you would certainly have more hits gained. I personally have certainly enjoyed it's transformation videos, certainly the best 👌 👍
I watch your channel to see how you do the repairs on your cars and would enjoy seeing you tackle the replacement of the dash and the leather on the Sumo. But once done I would sell the Lexus. The Bismerc transformation has been incredible and I would love to see you finish it, but once done I would sell it as well to make way for another unique old car in need of your special care and attention. I think as far as your long term content goes, they both have to be moved on, however my heart says keep the merc as the transformation has been unique and it does look stunning in that metallic blue!
I'd love to see a Lancia Fulvia - a girlfriend of mine back in the day had one. They are gorgeous cars (one could say they are old school Alfas taken to the next level!). As much as it pains me to say it, I think you are right in terms of how saleable the Lexus could be, and it should be the one to be sold.
I personally prefer the Merc. The Merc is part of the last of the Bruno Secco line and is the car you have more sweat equity in. It's also arguably the better car for a daily as it's less thirsty than the V8, or at least it should be. The Merc is also the car that would probably sell for less. So based on these why not daily it. These cars are a magical point where the Borg (electronics) have not taken the whole driving condition over.
Dear Jack, I've owned both these marques (300SEL 6.3 and LS 400) keeping them into high mileages. If you fix the few things on the Lexus the right way you'll run out of topics for your channel. Keep the M-B; it will be a rich fount of material for Number 27 for years to come, and that's something I'd like to see.
I drive a W212 and that star on the bonnet is so meaningful to follow, it says something about the car, its a mercedes, Lexus i dont think so, i would keep the merc.
Jack I’d keep the Bismerc, I do love the LS ( I love Lexus as a daily) but the Bismerc just looks way cooler and I would imagine it’s easier to work on? …. Lexus are amazing but like everything else they can and do go wrong and they can be a bit complicated when it comes to troubleshooting !
Hi Jack. I think keep The Bismerk. I have a '88 300CE. So partial to it. Looks Way Better. Please Keep It. The Feeling You Get Completing The Restoration Is Priceless. Cheers
Pick the one you like best and keep it as your daily but also slowly do it up……I hope you keep the Merc. since you’ve done so much to it already and I’d like to see it fully finished (including the interior).
The Merc is a much more special car, IMO. And, as said previously, I like the cloth interior, and, IMO, the grey matches the blue exterior much better than the creamy beige leather. Also, it seems to me that the Merc needs less doing to it.
Love the idea of you getting a Fulvia.....have always thought of getting one. as for the Merc/Lexus sale, i would keep the one which seems slightly more left field which in this context is actually the MB
The Merc hands down. It's made by MB engineers and not by later bean counters. It will in time with care be a desirable classic. The Lexus by contrast as lovely as it is is at the end of the day a big Toyota and will money pit over time.
You have all but transformed the Mercedes, and with so much effort and good work. Even though there are a few more little jobs to, it will be the more satisfying for you - and you did say so yourself! Ultimately the choice is yours.
You keep the car what makes you feel special and puts the bigger smile on your face when you driving it. For me, it would be the Mercedes - it's older and the value for this cars only goes into one direction. It's a pillar-less coupe and it aged quite well. You give it 80s style BBS rims, maybe period correct lowering springs - you will have a cool cruiser what shouldn't break the bank. The Lexus is a big boat - yes, it is probably the better car, but it is just a massive cruiser and it lacks character. The Lexus, from a technical perspective beats most S-Class, but to give it character you actually have to make it 'worse' - believe me that, I own an XE20 and the car only became a head turner after I lowered it, changed the stance and gave it a custom stainless steel backbox to give it a humble-rumble - also running on 18" BBS RS Before that, every box standard 318i seemed to get more street-cred.
As much as I love the Lexus brand I think you have only really started with the Bismerc it looks fantastic now and you are getting it sorted out I’d like to see more videos of its progress jmho 🙏🏽
Keep the Merc. You have so much emotionally invested and you hat you did was a miraculous transformation which saved the car. Personally, I would look for the other interior bits and compete that swap. You can sell the old stuff and probably make a good amount. The progress you make will be far more rewarding. I wouldn’t sell the Lexus just yet. If you can find an instrument cluster that works and get the front seats repaired for a price that makes sense…it might bring more money.
From experience, you may probably want one car that you can mostly rely upon to get you around. I think the Merc actually can probably do that job. It's not the most mechanically complicated thing on earth and yes it may run a bit lumpy and have some odd idling issues but it reminds me a little of a Jeep that I run (with a Merc engine), it'll just plop along like that forever, and it's a classic that will probably appreciate some decent miles put on it. I like the Lexus. I had a GS300 Sport many moons ago but it is a bit of a Japanese Watch. Lacks a little soul. BisMerc has to be the answer, it'll become less temperamental with miles.
Try a large can of Seafoam (injector cleaner) in with a petrol fillup on the 300CE. It worked wonders to improve the engine smoothness on my '89 300 CE. The M-B may increase in value, more collectible.
Personally, I'd get rid of the Merc. You've put a substantial amount of time, energy and money into it. Really, it looks to me like you've taken it as far as it can go, and the law of diminishing returns come into the equation. Also, if a car was really a keeper, imo, you'd know it, rather than humming and hawing about it. PS, nice jim jams.
I love both equally but the merc wins hands down to me,my wife drove my w202 through a brick wall yesterday so I now need to sort that out so I’ll have a little challenge I might do a video of 😂😂 keep the merc mate you know you want too
I'm with the 'sell both' band, but use The Bismerc as your daily driver 'until' you are ready in the interim. Having no visible/usable speedo etc is not a good thing and could have expensive legal complications..... Don't keep both, sell Sumo and the Sprite and get something sexier on your drive..... Fulvia obviously. Love your work, Chris
Keep the Bismerck for the time being, the LS is an old man’s car. This model Merc is increasing in value and given what you have done to transform it really has made it shine. Oh and yes install the leather interior, it’s worth doing and will further increase the car’s value.
I would keep the Lexus as a daily driver. The Lexus is a modern classic and might soon get some collectors value. If you fix all the little defects I think you can sell it with a reasonable profit. It's also more interesting as a youtube-project compared to the Merc, in my opinion.
Jack, my opinion would b Bismerc; because it is a coupe n already nicely done and new paint vs LS meter panel/seats n suspension of a old paint car. Secondly, mercs’ parts r so easily available and a potential for classic as years goes by.
I'd keep the Bismerc: it's been great to watch you transform it into the pretty cool car it is now. The Lexus is the better car, but it's perhaps the least interesting of the two... So I'd say drop the Lexus and keep the Bismerc!
As you said yourself , Jack, you’ve already done so much with the Merc but haven’t had time to enjoy the work you’ve done. It’s a shame not to be able to see both projects through but the Lexus was part of a series, the Merc was something that you wanted. My advice, keep the Merc!
Hi Jack, it all depends on priorities, if you want to put money back into the pot then the car to sell has to be the Bismerc but that would leave you with a big barge that needs some considerable expenditure. My choice would be keep the Merc it is now presentable and requires less ongoing finances plus think it is more of an appreciating asset over time. End of day it all your call.
Keep the Merc...you will always be proud of what you did, an that's worth more than what Lexus comfort and reliability could give back....also much more Benz fanatics to watch videos of you tinkering whit it
keep the Bismark 100% looks so much nicer than the Lexus plus like you said you have so much more invested in this car, enjoy it for a while and enjoy looking at that lovely 3 pointed star on the bonnet.
You almost seem to have come to your decision at the end of your video Jack…but if you were still undecided, reading through the comments should, I hope, swing it. There is such a lot of love for that old Benz, and as pretty much everyone else has said, you’ve made a big emotional investment in the car. It would be great to see the continuing transformation from basket case back to distinguished old lady. I think you’re wise to leave the interior ‘as is’ - leather is a bit passé on these, and the cloth makes for a refreshing alternative. I’ve also heard it said that once you start dismantling the interior trim, it’s virtually impossible to get it squeak and rattle free once it’s refitted. Keep the Bismerc…you’ve come too far to abandon it now!
Which is going to be easier and cheaper to stay on top off? I would have thought the Mercedes, more parts availability and likely be cheaper to run longer term. You will miss the refinement of the the LS but some compromises will have to be made. If you are serious about a Fulvia, you will probably have to sell all three!
Hi Jack, I feel I have to speak up on behalf on the 'Bismerc'. please keep your Mercedes. Its a beautiful car and what a transformation! Such a timeless classy car that will always be stylish and timless. Work on it over time and the time you invest will be rewarded for years to come.. It's one of those cars that people will always love and admire. The Lexus hasn't aged well at all it's just horrible and beige I think it's more like a reliable appliance than a desirable car. There.. I've said my piece!!
Get a huge sheet of polythene laid out on the lawn, park both cars on it then fold it over and seal the edges and sell the resultant mess as a "variety pack" you know it makes sense.
Well, since you asked..... 😁 I hated the BisMerc when you got it, but your transformation has won me over (you accomplished the same thing with the Citroën BX, by the way!). I can see that your heart is with the BisMerc, even if your head wanders between the two. So, the Lexus goes! By the way, I remain a fan of cloth seats, so I won't be disappointed at all if you leave that interior as it is, and address other needs.
I'd definitely keep the Merc it's about the satisfaction for me the Lexus will just go I liked them when new but they ar soulless everything is to easy sorry but the Merc wins for me.. keep up the great work John
Hi Jack, I've just come across this video and you've probably made your decision by now, but just my 2 cents (or pence) on it; There two cars were in two different market sectors and price brackets. The LS400 was a competitor for the Mercedes S-Class and and was in a higher price bracket than the 300CE, which would of course be reflected in its running costs. If your pockets are deep enough my advice would be to keep the Lexus, otherwise, keep the Merc. Both are very good cars and it's an enviable choice to be able to make.
I'd probably fix the instrument cluster on the Lexus if its a cheap enough job, to make it easier to sell. It would also make good content with one last video on it, then sell it and keep the Merc. The Ls400s are really good cars but I'm more of a Mercedes fan to be honest and that w124 looks awesome after that paintjob. After putting so much work into it, it would be good to see you finish the project off.
I wouldn't want to say which one I think you should keep, but there is one that you defo seem to have more affection for. When you talk about the lexus, you say complimentary things, but there doesn't seem to be any love for it. You are just talking about a mode of transport. Where as when you talk about the merc, you seem to have a real affection for it, despite its quirks and foibles. If I was to take both sets of keys and only give one back, I think I know which would one would make you smile to have back in your hand.
That generation of Mercs was the last 'proper' Well built cars they did. I had a 190e auto 2.6 straight six and it was just such a classic. There'll always be a market for the Merc and if you keep it straight it'll be a growing asset.
Well i agree - continue tinkering with Bismerc, utilise it as a 'daily' & dont put any more $$$ into 'Sumo' & given its got an excellent body & runs well 'yes' sell 'him' & be on the lookout for the next 'project'
It really comes down to what do you need from your car at this point. If you need a daily driver, keep the Lexus. If you have other options then keep the merc. Sometimes we have to let go of a car because it’s just not the right time to have it-if selling the merc can help fund other, cooler projects down the line then it’s the right thing to sell
Bismerc gets my vote, for what's left to do it makes really good content for your channel. We have all seen the fabulous transformation thus far and would be great to see it all completed. You then have a nice daily driver with comfort which you know inside out with all the issues fixed. Perhaps an appreciating investment too ?
I’d keep the BisMerc and waft around this summer in pillarless luxury and get a view more vids out of it. Would be nice though to see the dash done on Sumo. You’ll have done your bit- the next owner can do shocks/belts as they see fit whilst you get some cash for Ferrari parts!
Hi Jack I sell the Lexus and keep the Merc and continue to do work on it and we can follow it to a finished job they care a rare enough Merc so it be nice seeing it out

this, both!
Just came here to say the same thing. Both are boring. Time to move on.
Little to no YT content value. sell them.

I love the Mercedes-Benz. Such cool Bruno Sacco styling. I would keep it forever, but that is just me.
Try a large can of Seafoam (injector cleaner) in with a petrol fillup on the 300CE. It worked wonders to improve the engine smoothness on my '89 300 CE. The M-B may increase in value, more collectible.
Definitely keep the Benz you've done a fantastic job on it so time to enjoy it! It's now time for the lexus to depart I'm afraid
I love both equally but the merc wins hands down to me,my wife drove my w202 through a brick wall yesterday so I now need to sort that out so I’ll have a little challenge I might do a video of 😂😂 keep the merc mate you know you want too
Option 3, give both to me :-)
Fix the cluster panel & sell the Lexus! Continue to improve the Merc with items too maintain or increase value, then sell!
I will keep the W124, but if the Lexus was a first gen LS, then it would be difficult to choose, keep the good work, thanks
Btw, you can get a LS400 cluster repair for the light for $200USD on ebay here in the US.
I'd keep the Lexus over the Merc without a moments hesitation. Reliability is the keyword here. The Merc will always be breaking things.
I would sell them both to fund another interesting project, but if I had to sell one it would be the Lexus.
I second that.
Definitely keep the Lexus
Keep the Merc...you will always be proud of what you did, an that's worth more than what Lexus comfort and reliability could give back....also much more Benz fanatics to watch videos of you tinkering whit it
It's a difficult one jack both are lovely cars, me personally I would hang on to the merc, hope that helps a little 😊
My view is to Sell both, that said, if I had to keep one I’d keep the Bismarck.
keep the Bismark 100% looks so much nicer than the Lexus plus like you said you have so much more invested in this car, enjoy it for a while and enjoy looking at that lovely 3 pointed star on the bonnet.
I'm a Lexus man but I can't tell you to keep the LS as you've invested so much into the Merc, and it is now a gorgeous colour
For me keep the Merc as it will in time it will go up in value.
I’d keep the Mercedes personally, it’s had such a transformation and looks really rather smart.
I'd definitely keep the Merc it's about the satisfaction for me the Lexus will just go I liked them when new but they ar soulless everything is to easy sorry but the Merc wins for me.. keep up the great work
John
Hi Jack,
I've just come across this video and you've probably made your decision by now, but just my 2 cents (or pence) on it;
There two cars were in two different market sectors and price brackets.
Both will go at some point, the Lexus first though.
With a newer Merc I couldn't tell, but that series is quite good!
Well i agree - continue tinkering with Bismerc, utilise it as a 'daily' & dont put any more $$$ into 'Sumo' & given its got an excellent body & runs well 'yes' sell 'him' & be on the lookout for the next 'project'
I love that he's presenting the his pijamas.
You've put your heart and soul into the Merc, you've come a long way together...why not enjoy it ? It's way classier than the Ls400...
Keep the Merc. Enjoy some of the effort you’ve put into it
It really comes down to what do you need from your car at this point. If you need a daily driver, keep the Lexus. If you have other options then keep the merc. Sometimes we have to let go of a car because it’s just not the right time to have it-if selling the merc can help fund other, cooler projects down the line then it’s the right thing to sell
If we talking about value keep the merc because the price will obviously go up while the lexus's is stuck or worse depreciating
Sell the Lexus, keep the Mercedes and carry on with it Jack.
None of these will get your money back right now but I consider Lexus ls400 is a class above the Mercedes
Bismerc gets my vote, for what's left to do it makes really good content for your channel. We have all seen the fabulous transformation thus far and would be great to see it all completed. You then have a nice daily driver with comfort which you know inside out with all the issues fixed. Perhaps an appreciating investment too ?
Sell both. Lets go with next project
I'd be selling the Merc first. IMO, the Lexus is a better engineered, rarer and more characterful car, though I'd prefer an LS430 if I had the option.
I’d keep the BisMerc and waft around this summer in pillarless luxury and get a view more vids out of it. Would be nice though to see the dash done on Sumo. You’ll have done your bit- the next owner can do shocks/belts as they see fit whilst you get some cash for Ferrari parts!
I think you have invested more in the Bismerc - cash and emotion! So go with your heart as both will attract good buyers!
It's a no brainer the Merc is a keeper, so much work has already gone into it and it is the better looking of the two.
Keep tinkering with the Merc it makes great content.
Hi Jack I sell the Lexus and keep the Merc and continue to do work on it and we can follow it to a finished job they care a rare enough Merc so it be nice seeing it out
Don't be a "berk in a merc" keep the lexus, class rules crass😉
Thats a tough one, i would keep the Merc but it's probably not as nice to drive as the Lexus...
