The great Bastogne myth. Any that has read on the history of the Battle of the Bulge, knows the 101 AB where not the true heroes of the bulge, but the 106th Golden Lyons. The 101AB was brought up to Bastogne after the initial attack by the German army and where surrounded and fighting for their lives, where the 106th, a green, over stretch division, in a supposedly quite area, got the full brunt of the German attack. For three days the 106 denied the German the vital cross roads of St. Veth, where at Bastogne the German bypassed the town, and only after failing to take the main objective did they fall back on the 101AB. The 106th held out, until there ammo ran out or they were decimated by superiors German forces. Just look at a battle map of the time and you see what I mean.
You feel the need to post this on every Bastogne video, huh? You're not entirely correct either. The 82nd was at the Bulge as well. Stop soiling these divisions,.

mitch ring Il est dans l’attaque principale qui doit joindre Anvers, alors Remouchamps. La partie Bastogne c’est pour couvrir le flanc. Prendre Bastogne change l’histoire s’il massacre la population (comme d’habitude), mais pas la bataille.

@Aleric On the Soviet steppes such shots may have been common. Not so much in France or Germany. Being as loud when moving as a Rock Concert means everybody knows where you are. I'm not sure you couldn't hear a panther moving a km away on the open steppes. They are very LOUD. They aren't going to stand up to heavy artillery fire. Bombs from on high are no fun either.
@Aleric I think you're an idiot. Tank battles occured when two hostile forces collided or one ran into the other. Range could be anything. Tanks at this stage weren't going to be buttoned up unless they knew they needed to be because it restricted airflow and their ability to know what was going on. You wait for the enemy to attack you when you are on the defensive. If you are on the offensive that isn't an option is it Einstein.
@Aleric I'd say they are beyond both of us. I'm confident that neither of us are teaching combat rules. I'll repeat one obvious point though. The panther was not made to hide in the brush and ambush enemy tanks as you first stated and that is a simplistic method of use. It was effective when so used but so was a marder or a stug and they cost less. It was supposed to be the spear tip of the German tank core along with the most advanced Mark IVs.

Das mittlere Rohr war das Auspuffrohr, die anderen 2 dienten der Motor bzw der Motorraum-Belüftung. Der Panther litt zu der Zeit unter technischen Problemen mit der Dichtigkeit des Spritsystem. Leckagen an Benzin und Öl waren ein großes Problem und liessen so manches Fahrzeug in Flammen aufgehen, da Treibstoff auf heiße Motorenteile tropfte oder sich zündfähige Gase bildeten.

That is by far the loudest panther I ever heard. It couldn't sneak up on anything. I don't think the muffler worked at all.
